In March 2020, the world was in the grips of the pandemic.
When Gretchen Anthony started texting people saying she had contracted the virus, friends were concerned. But concern soon turned into a sense of unease and confusion, when things just weren’t adding up. Gretchen was missing without a trace, and police needed to act fast.

Unfortunately, neighbors in large towns in Florida are often not even acquainted. The age mix is wide and most have relocated from another state. Often, they are moving into new developments. The older smaller towns seem to offer more of what we expect. This isn't an excuse for that neighbor's inaction, of course.

A few months ago one of my neighbours was attacked by her ex-husband, I heard her screams for help, for someone to call the police, they turned up an hour later & went to speak to other neighbours to see if they saw or heard anything, every single one said they heard her screams, but did nothing. Not one thought to look out the window & see if she was okay, not one even bothered to pick up the phone & ask for a welfare check, it absolutely infuriated me! Yet if it was one of their loved ones they'd be asking the same damn questions

Back when I was in 5th grade, I couldn’t sleep and was upstairs looking out my window at the stars. I had my window open. It was around 1:30-2:00 am. I heard a horrific and terrible scream coming from the adult section of our townhouses. I KNEW as a kid that it wasn’t right. I woke up my dad, and told him where I thought the scream came from. He didn’t doubt me or blow it off because he was tired or not wanting to get involved. He grabbed a flashlight, threw on his jeans and boots and ran over there. A woman who was just getting in had been attacked by a guy who had been waiting for her. He’d raped her and the screams were from him stabbing her. My dad had gotten there just as the guy had taken off, and another neighbor ran up. BUT, she was still alive. She survived because I happened to hear her screaming and my dad had taken me seriously. If you hear or see something CALL the cops!!!! Write everything down before you forget it as well. Seriously people, pay attention!!

The police are there to investigate. Looking into a possible ongoing murder attempt is pretty high up on the list of things a police officer is paid to do. I'd rather they "waste their time" looking into those situations than just sitting on the side of the road waiting to pull someone over for speeding. If you have doubts as to whether it's real screaming or not, why rush someone's life over your own possible embarrassment?

@@modifiedbear6178 That’s not what it means. The people who created this video mentioned several times, Kobe the dog. Most humans with a good, tender heart would be comforted to know that he was given a new, loving home, rather than left in a shelter to be euthanized. It does not mean the dog’s life is worth more. It means other people are cantankerous assholes. I care just as much that Gretchen’s daughter is being raised by her father and Gretchen’s mother as I do that Kobe the dog has a safe, happy home. Why does it bother you that most humans love and want the best for animals? I have never wanted children and I will never want to bring new humans into this bleak world. So, actually, it is out of love and care, rather than selfishness, that I’ve placed more care and concern into NOT bringing new humans into this dying world with so much suffering than any of the people I know who have chosen to have children. I am loving and nurturing, and I enjoy giving that to my own furbabies, past and present. Also, my pets are emotional support animals. I don’t want to live life without a furry best friend baby. Most people love animals. At least any person worth a shit.

Depending on where live and the community of those that live there. People will call it in for you but will not try to take any action. Look what they tried to do to that ex marine on the subway who with 2 other guys. Had to subdue the individual who was irate and started being violent toward others. People not even there we're trying to insert themselves into a situation they knew nothing about and he had to defend himself as they tried their usual narrative BS through media. Charges were dropped. And plenty of cases where a guy tried to get involved and gets themselves killed. Times change. People change. In wake of the pandemic, criminal predators are running rampant all around. Stay vigilant.

The lack of regard for human life of not only the killer but the woman & others who heard her screaming for her life for 15 mins & to not even lift up a finger to call 911. Then to go on television & say with no shame that she heard blood curdling screams for help for 15 mins & how horrible it sounded. No guilt. No shame. No humanity. If she & the others find themselves screaming for their lives as they are being brutally attacked or murdered & no one helps them, maybe in those moments, they’ll remember Gretchen Anthony.

I, too, find it appalling that the neighbor heard screaming that sounded like "a woman being attacked" for 15 MINUTES and didn't feel the need to call it in. This shows how disconnected from each other we have become as a society in the US. It's disgusting. As always, your research, story-telling, compassion and production quality is among the best I've seen, not only here on KZfaq, but also amongst all platforms, including "professional" high dollar networks/channels. Thank you for all your hard work and your amazing compassion for the victims and their families. 💜

The thing that got me the most (other than that neighbor not calling the police when she heard screams and told the investigators about it later like it was hot gossip😡) was when the killer was reading his statement in court. If you aren’t listening too closely it almost sounds genuine and he’s crying out of remorse and is taking responsibility for the pain he caused. But really he was only talking about how this affected HIM, how HIS family is ruined, how he hurt the people who loved HIM, and how Gretchen, her daughter, and Gretchen’s family loved HIM. He doesn’t feel remorse that he killed such a wonderful person, he feels bad that this wonderful person is no longer in his life to benefit him and love him, never mind that he himself is the cause of that. He’s a narcissistic person and that is what made him so dangerous.

There’s a difference between dealing with your medical/psychiatric problems on your own terms and flat out not getting them treated at all. Bipolar disorder doesn’t make people kill but the erratic behavior and mood causes a lot of other pillars of one’s life to fall down, such that a person can back themselves into a corner. When you don’t take care of your own trauma and shit, you spread and inflict it on others.

I really hate it when they make deals with these murderous animals. The only deal they should even possibly offer him is life without parole instead of the death penalty. He should absolutely never get out of prison or see the light of day again. They had plenty enough proof to convict him so that was not going to be a problem. Giving them deals is giving them one more chance to have the upper hand and the control they so desire. Lock him up and throw away the key!
