😇 How old are you? 23
📝 What are you studying? I am set to start my MA in English Literature at Oxford this autumn.
📚What are your favourite books? • 200 book recommendatio...
📚 Do you have a book club? Yes! You can join it here for free: fable.co/club/reading-with-th...
📝 Have you written a book? My life goal is to be a published author and make a living from writing and I am using this year to gain experience, build up a portfolio and work on a book with my agent. I have just finished the final draft of that book, as you can see in this video. I did self-publish a book about bullying when I was seventeen which is available on Amazon (amzn.to/3mdJKLm), but I'm slightly embarrassed by it now!
🎃 Do you have merch? I don't have merch in the traditional sense (I can't imagine selling something with my face or name on haha!), but I do have a stationery company where I sell planners for students. These are all designed with students in mind and follow models which I've used when planning my studying. Our products are printed in pastel colours on recycled paper: bit.ly/3wgsR85
🍵 What's your favourite tea? That's a REALLY hard one, but I think I'd have to say the B&B Chocolate Digestive Tea: bird-and-blend-tea-co.sjv.io/youwilllovethisone (affiliate link)

Always been surprised you don’t like Austen when mentioned in the past. Her style of write is so funny and modern for her period. One of the greatest storytellers of all time, pushing the limits of what a woman was expected to do and be. Maybe try Northanger Abbey or Emma as they’re more direct with their comedy?

i think alot of people are more selective of what of austen's works they like. Myself I dislike Emma. Though it is well written, i always felt like those characters like Lizzie and Anne were more relatable. Even Fanny, in her underdog positioni found more appealing,

I know this risks triggering an obsession,….but here we go…… As you like bees and flowers and find the natural history museum interesting, have you had chance to explore a herbarium? Particularly with reference to the way herbarium sheets are composed, or were composed historically, and the way nature was recorded by artists and scientific researchers and illustrators in the period before photography. I find the work stunningly beautiful. Although scientific in origin, it’s an art form in its own right, and then of course many people involved spin off into becoming creative with it, because how could you not. I hope you enjoy your dissertation and final assessment period. It’s been such a treat following you this year. Thanks for taking us along.

More recently my God child was at Exeter college so my association grows. You also make me realise how my higher education was not taken very seriously and how much more I could have achieved if I had worked much harder!

I love your outside adventures even in the rain and your enthusiasm for learning about new things including learning about bees. I’m secretary of my church ladies group and last week had a wonderful speaker talking about fascinating flowers in Africa. His back ground is insects and he has a talk about bees which I might suggest to the committee for a talk in the future. I really must visit Monkton Nature reserve where he works. Another talk was wild orchids of Kent never knew we had so many at the reserve and he even found some out by our now closed manston airport xx Not seen Wonka yet but would love to. Ps May I please ask where u got your rain hat from ? Where I live it’s by the sea and often windy so umbrellas are a no no. I love Jane Austen persuasion is my fave but many young adults prefer Northanger Abbey xx enjoy you may also like her letters more and learn more about her in order to understand her writings xx could help xx

I've found that I love watching your vlogs while folding my clothes or organising paperwork, they make chores feel so much lighter and even relaxing. Also, I really need to give a chance to Jane Austen as well, since I'm not a big fan of romance, I've been putting off reading her books for years now, perhaps that's my sign. Oh and if you like The Girl Who Couldn't Read (or even if you dislike it), I highly recommend Florence and Giles, it's the unofficial prequel and, in my opinion, much better! When you think you know what's happening, it takes a 180° turn.

I didn’t like Jane Austen either until I read Northanger Abby. From my recollection (and this was quite a long time ago) it’s gothic and a bit slow paced but the scenes she depicts are just perfect and somewhat nostalgic because they’re through the eyes of the naive Catherine. One of my favorite books and you have made me want to re read it!

I utterly adore Jane Austen, she was a genius and was so ahead of her time. Pride and Prejudice is one of my favorite books of all time. But you should try Persasion which is my second fsvorite and utterly wonderful. She wrote it in a race against time as she was dying from what is believeed to be Hodgekins disease ( I think). Emma is also wondewrful and one of my fsvourites.

@Yesica1993 Of course it is. The marketing they were going for wasn't the right way to go about it though. Evidently so because they got a lot of backlash for it and switched it up. I really enjoyed the style of this vlog. It was fun and light and inspiring all at the same time! I would really love to see the vlog of your archive visit if you decide to upload it!! I am hoping and dreaming of being able to visit some archives while writing my masters dissertation this summer and would love to see your experience :) As a resident Jane Austen obsessive, I really recommend reading Persuasion. It is her best novel in my opinion, and I think you might enjoy it a bit more than her other works. I think its also really fun to read after Northanger Abbey- I wrote a paper about those two novels last term. When reading them one after the other you can really see the influence of Gothic and Romantic tropes on both novels, and see her growth as an author between her first and last completed works. ((There is also some really interesting research by Collins Hemingway on the editing of Northanger Abbey if anyone is interested!!))

I think it's fine to not like universally adored authors like Austen, but I also think her books are super different.
