In this video, I am thrilled to share with you my tried-and-tested organisational strategy which has been a cornerstone in managing a large and complex caseload in my social work endeavours. Over time, I've refined this system across various roles, ensuring its adaptability while retaining its core essence, enabling me to prioritise tasks and manage time.

Hi Kayleigh I just wanted to say thank you for this upload. Great timing for me as I recently secured a LA role in Children and Families and have been given a caseload of 25. I did not know how to organise myself with this amount of cases. Perfect timing as I start my role this week. If you have any more tips like these and you are willing to share, then please do so as they are an immense help to me and others in our situation.

That's brilliant. This is literally how I organise my life now 😅. I've been doing a part time masters and completing my dissertation and using this method. I will probably share that on here soon 👍

Perhaps this sounds silly, but how do you get around to the non-urgent tasks if (and I’m purely assuming here) you’re constantly receiving urgent referrals? I’d love to pursue social work (I believe we’ve spoken once or twice on the server), but I just lack the faith in myself - as does everyone else I’ve confided in about my ambitions. You’re dealing with people’s livelihoods, and the decisions you make can have drastic consequences - seems impossible for me. 🥺

Hi it's a really difficult place to balance competing demands on social work. This tool I've shared is a way of structuring thoughts around it as sometimes it's hard to see the woods for the trees so to speak. However, you are not alone in social work, you are part of a wider structure of support from managers and colleagues. With experience you learn how to balance competing demands and find ways to get to the non-urgent but sometimes (things that really matter to people). Sometimes there can be structural issues impacting on social workers doing the bits that matter too. In terms of your confidence, if I'm being honest even on the course there were multiple times I doubted myself completely but I go through it in the end. I started listening to things to develop a more growth mindset and that helped me get through the degree and then it's a constant learning experience from there. But you have to find ways to self-protect as well when you are out there doing the role. Hope that helps and also glad you are in the server!
