It's to ensure you have Marines that want to be there, and are willing to do what needs to be done. If you have someone who isn't up to it, that could cause mayhem in the heat of a battle.

You don't show it but the first time you cross the wire and know there will be contact you have to come to terms there may be no tomorrow. You won't show it and nor will your brother to your left or right will but you are nervous and overthinking everything. It's easy to fall into this mental state. These speeches serve a purpose and the chant everyone says is to change your mental. Nobody will get it unless you are there in the moment.

Talk to a recruiter. I’ve seen 5’2 guys carry machine guns on their neck and up hills. Being skinny is better than being fat. Recruiters work with out of shape recruits to prep them for boot camp. Even if you don’t join they’ll teach how how to get strong

The Navy SEAL stuff interested me more than being a marine because it’s special forces and I want to push myself beyond my limits. I’ve been lazy all my life and I was inspired to change myself because of the Navy SEALs. I will become a U.S. Navy SEAL Officer! 😃

I dont disagree with you Kickbuck.American soldiers are brave men,and their valour has been proved on many occasion. My point is that Henry vs speech at Agincourt was for an army expecting to be anhiallted. The Us forces in Iraq are the most powerful in the world,with air superiority and weapons beyond the dreams of their enemies. This is not an underdog army,where as Henrys was.

Yes and No. This is a company size element in enemy territory surrounded by urban warfare where there enemies were unknown. Alpha Co 1/4. The odds were not in their favor. I do see your point though and it is valid.

The unit in the video are the “Raiders” Alpha Co., 1/4 Marines, named after the original WW2 Raiders that were re-designated as 1/4 during the war after the original 1/4 was wiped out in the Pacific Front

The little "speech " that this guy gives is based upon the English King Henry V (thats fifth) speech on the morning of the battle of Agincourt.(Sorry Yanks,but this was not in your Civil War) Though there is a difference.First of all the English army was outnumnbered 5 to 1,they were on foreign soil an badly blighted by dissentery. They also faced what was the best equipped,paid and trained forces in the medieval world at that time,and still won.

I have lived and worked in the USA for years (including TEACHING, at university level), and the gross ignorance of those american youngsters used to leave me appalled. Our senior high schools teach in their last 2 years the curriculum taught in thew first two years of an american BA-BS course - which, if I'm not mistaken, is "college", hence university level.
