just a fun fact in the discussion about how the author had the ability to make something completely different from Kaguya: actually, before Kaguya, Aka did a manga called Ib: Instant Bullet, and it is pretty similar to Oshi no Ko tone-wise; so funnily enough, Kaguya is actually the manga that deviates from what he was used doing

I mean even then kaguya had alot of dark undertones to it it was just primarily a comedy/romance so it out shined the darkness alot. This show just kinda does the opposite focusing on the darker or more real parts of its story and has comedy as a side peice

Please take note that aqua is still a teen. His brain development and everything is still that of a teenage boy. He just has the memories of his past life which make him think a more maturely than other teens. But in the end, his brain is still that of the teen.

As a kid, he saw his own mom died right in front of him, so I think it is no wonder that he wanna protect his sister who is his only family. He might seem self-sufficient but he is still a teen with a major PTSD.

I mean, I think this is more about him experiencing that traumatic experience and less about him ''having a teenager brain''. I'm not an expert about the human body or something but, while I do believe that having the brain of a child is a factor, I think being ''mature'' is more about how much did you experience in life. Like, an adult man can act like a man-child, being immature it's not just a teenager thing. It's jsut less likely for adults to act immature because they got more chances to learn and getting used to things. I don't think I enjoy videogames less now than when I was a kid because I'm an ''adult'', it's just because I've already played a lot of games and well, experienced many things in life so it's just not as exciting as before.

@@LixienXIII I agree with you. But I still think experiencing something first hand and just having memories of the experiences might be a little bit different. I think he is really mature because of the memories of his past life, but the decisions he is making now might be heavily influenced by the fact that he cannot process that trauma like a 30 something year-old doctor would. I’m not an expert either😅 but I’ve read somewhere that our mental stages and the way we process things differ according to our age and that is why I kept saying teen’s brain. Sorry I don’t know how to put it as english is my second language and I myself is a bit confused (yet fascinated) by Aqua’s character. In my eyes, he acts a little bit recklessly like a teen but with adult’s intelligence if that makes sense 😅

@@Lily-xk9ub hmm yeah I agree with the difference between getting the memories of your past life and experiencing those yourself. But as far as I know, Aqua is the latter. I know characters in other shows "getting the memories" of their past lives, kinda just like a download, but they're still a new person since they're only getting the memories. I dont think Aqua is like that, he's just the doctor in another body. And yeah, I can see that but well, in the end we dont really have a real life scenario of an adult getting reincarnated into a teen's body that we can study lmao so I guess it's up to interpretation. Based on the later episodes, to me, he just seems like the doctor but with trauma lol. (And again, I personally think adults for the most part are just teenagers with extra experience, some more than others. I'm 26 and I dont feel mature at all, I just get used to things lol)

I was thinking about how Aqua never calls Ai his mother even when she was stabbed by her stalker, and then realized it was probably best for him to do so because they were technically the "director's kids" in the public eye. I reckon that and the fact that he was her doctor before both played a part.

there is actually a good reason for it, atleast what i consider to be what happen notice how he never actually view himself as ai's child, but more watching over her. he never let her dote on him etc. only rudy does that. so imo aqua in general view himself as watching over ai as her child, but not actually living as her child.

@@artygs1 indeed that was what I was inferring as the psychological reason, it’s just helps additionally that he isn’t upfront about Ai being his mom when he’s speaking to Gotanda and the others or she’ll be in trouble. He’s generally more careful about it while Ai is careless.

So Akasaka had a really good idea of where the story is going as early as the first 10 chapters in the manga. He actually showed flash forwards little clips of chapters as far as the current chapter (115) in those first 10 chapters. Which at the time you didnt know what it meant. Kinda happy they didnt include it in the first episode.

@@handlerlena at the beginning of each chapter for pretty much all 10 chapters you will see a page to a panel of an event that would happen in a future chapter. Like one of the chapters, i think chapter 5, hints at who gets the role for the current arc.

As I see it, Aqua "died again" when Ai was killed, or at least part of him died that day. As he said in the last episode the only reason he is still alive is to kill his father, he doesn't care who he has to manipulate or trick to do it. Of course he loves Ruby and wants to protect her, but his hatred of Ai's murderer has turned into a hatred of everything related to the world of stardom and more specifically idols, that is why in his mind there is nothing wrong with destroying her dreams in order to get her away from that world; in fact the only reason he seems inspired to act is because it was his mother's dying wish for him. I honestly think that the comparison some people had made of Aqua with Light Yagami is very accurate: he has a ultimate goal, which for him is completly just and morally correct, and he is willing to do everything to complete it, no matter what.

I love your guys reaction, I don’t normally comment on things but this will be SPOILER FREE piece of info it touches on Ep1. So when it comes to overprotective feelings for aqua it makes a lot more sense when you view from his point Ai died holding aqua he saw it all happen from being held in her bloody arms to watching the light leave her eyes at the hands of the same man who killed him as a doctor that’s a lot of ptsd. On the other hand one of the core reasons ruby can move on a little easier is what you said but it’s also the factor that she never saw Ai die or her body one thing they showed in the manga for that scene that they cut out of the anime courtesy of another comment section is that when the police showed up they were covering ruby from seeing her body unlike for aqua. Like when aqua said in the car “she’s very pure hearted and kind so she’ll bounce back” etc etc while for him it was way more traumatizing. But I’m not absolving him of the fucked up thing he did with his sister and the agency it’s still bad but more understandable. I wouldn’t wanna see that traumatizing lifeless face in my sister that I saw in my mother. But while revenge is still his goal I’ll be expecting some character development to so he can at the least be more open and supportive of his family in the future while chasing his goal I’m as excited as you guys are. Loved the reaction as always can’t wait to see where we go from here.

All the quality in OnK is because the staff really wanted to give the adaptation the series deserves. After the beautiful characters design in Rent a Girlfriend, the staff asked the design character director what series she’s wanted to see animated and she says Oshi no Ko without a doubt. Koga Dogo got really attached to the manga and we can see the dedication they have in every single frame. This anime is also a passionate project and the fact that they didn’t exclude Akasaka and Yokoyari, moreover they relayed in them a lot to make all the details as much accurate posible. Actually in the official YT channel we can see Akasaka and Yokoyari interviews with the bands behind the OP and ED, Vtuber shorts starring a future character named Memcho and 2 behind the scenes videos You’ll need to check those two videos and see all the work behind this series.

like everyone is saying, it's the opposite (I didn't know either, I only know Akasaka from Kaguya too) and it actually makes sense. Kaguya feels like a Romcom that someone that usually does things like Oshi no Ko would do. Kaguya is not a dark show by any means but it has those ''dark'' elements that he uses for comedy. It just makes sense for Kaguya to be the ''out of the comfort zone'' work.

Oshi no Ko manga currently has 115 chapters, and judging by episode 2, they are probably going to adapt until chapter 40. I pray to god that they announce season 2 or at least confirm that it's going to happen in the near future, because I can feel how most anime-only watchers gonna get cucked in the worst way possible. Albeit manga will probably become even more popular than it is now, by the end of season 1.

Then I think Aqua hasn't reached the stage where she considers Ai her mother, even at the beginning she only thinks of her as an idol that she supports, but after 4 years together I'm sure at least she thinks of AI as family

Greeting Boldcast, How are you guys? doing well, I hope. As someone who has knowledge about the inner workings and someone who communicates with directors, producers, animators etc etc. I can confirm your assumptions about BORUTO are wrong. Both the BORUTO anime and the Oshi no Ko anime have fans that is part the core staff of the anime and that are passion for the series. The difference here their production schedule, Oshi no Ko has a much better schedule than BORUTO in general. With that said, here is a little nice info about Oshi no Ko anime: Kanna Hirayama, the character designer/ main chief animation supervisor of the Oshi no Ko anime was the one who responsible for the Oshi no Ko anime getting made. In a discussion about what should be their anime project, Ryou Kobayashi(the animation producer of Oshi no Ko) ask Hirayama is there something that she liked particular, she said Oshi no Ko. After that, Kobayashi read the series and thought it was interesting

You guys talked about creating stories that are well thought through even if things aren't detailed enough yet. I agree that AOT is one of those shows that you'd bring up for this but I think AOT is too tightly woven for the story structure you guys were describing. A more apt story for sure would be One Piece where it's obvious that the author taught about the most important details first, including the ending, but left so many open threads and breathing room so that it could be expanded upon further and Oda the author did precisely that. It's actually the reason why he's regarded as the mangaka with the best worldbuilding right now.

Episode 1 was very necessary because it makes you sympathize so much more with Aqua and Ruby. If the first episode didn't exist, we wouldn't be invested in the revenge story, nor in Ruby's dream of being an idol. It was necessary to make those motivations work.

I like your reaction!! starting from 18:00 it's like you guys made a podcast about the plot and I find your point of view interesting. You're right at 32:37, there is indeed someone like that in the production staff. The producer read it and thought "I must make this into an anime". This just shows how it impacts the quality of the show as a whole if the production staff behind it are also a fan of the series. Yeah it's impossible to adapt it in 12 episodes. This episode ends where chapter 13 ends and there are like +100 chapters after this one at the moment.

A good example of a series that tried to explain the fantastical element and just bombed it was Orange. The explanation on how they sent letters to themselves 10 years in the past was just pants on head idiotic. If they had just left it unexplained, the show would have been much better.

I 100% disagree. The first episode was completely necessary for the story to work. It gave us the emotional investment we needed to stay with the story given it's complicated setup. Without it, almost none of the characters' motives or goals would hit us as hard. Not to mention there would be confusion over the how complicated the premise was. It would be murder to just straight up explain that as exposition. Instead, they showed us what happened - which was infinitely more effective.
