This week I bring you along for a tour of the house in Devon and a little insight into our activities, plus our adventures surfing on Saunton Sands beach.

Congratulations to Simon for 21 years of sobriety! An incredible feat and something to definitely be very proud of. My mother-in-law has been sober for almost 30 years and I’m immensely proud of her too. She was also the landlady and owner of a pub during this time; I can’t even imagine how beyond difficult that must have been for her?! So very proud of her and of Simon too xx

Thank you Sigh for sharing your story. I had a feeling this might have been the case. You can always tell when a person is in recovery, be that 1 year or 21 years, they have a tangible depth, and I have always been able to feel how grateful he is for his life. He’s a good egg, and Charlie you both have created such a special and beautiful family ❤️

Congratulations Si! Ten years this December for me … and I totally agree it opened me up to normal life rather than shutting it to me. I didn’t do any 12 steps just one day decided never again and henceforth I haven’t. Well done for sharing a important story for people to hear. God bless you both x

We moved from Farnham Surrey to a small holding in North Devon during lockdown and haven’t looked back since. My husband is a retired banker and I left nursing after 35 years and life is so different now. You are right Charlie, people are so kind and helpful in this neck of the woods. Thank you for sharing your journey Simon, very honest of you and I’m so pleased you felt able to tell us on Charlie’s channel.

Congratulations Sigh - what an achievement! I hope your story can help other people, and for me, personally, it has renewed my hope that my dear cousin, who struggles with substance abuse and keeps relapsing (though less frequently these days), will one day be able to achieve what you have achieved. Oh Simon, thank you so much for sharing your story. I too have questioned my drinking over the years, I abstained for 18 months but then did start again. I too am familiar with the 12 step programme, my ex partner of 10yrs had/has an addiction to gambling and attended the GA 12 step programme throughout our relationship. I truly believe that group therapy is so valuable, to be able to just be with others that truly understand what you're experiencing is so important. I also say the serenity prayer during hard times. One day at a time. XX

I remember the 12 steps from my father’s journey- sadly he didn’t stick with it-I wish he had!
