@@DoveAlexa Oh, it didn't occur to me, because even if they put one of the Irestill gang in the game, it'll be either Heles or Scatha. Naoise would be a distant 3rd tied with Seruel. Though I'm pretty sure now that one of the first DLC chars after that will be one of the Six Dragons given that they're GBF's golden goose right now. Either Fediel since she's the most popular, or Ewiyar due to the novelty factor.

Hoping Max plays this more when the game releases, he only played the beta for one session this time but his impression of the game has been vastly positive, just like a lot of other people. Game needs this 2nd chance.

The Raging Strike mechanic is great. Basically, if you use it then it's 100% unblockable, but it has a slow startup and you can be jabbed out of it. Or, WORSE, they dodge and you eat a full combo. So they could just play safe and hit buttons, BUT if the actual attack doesn't fully come out you don't spend the point. And because the less uses of it you have the more damage you take, if you call them out and dodge it then you're not only wasting one of their resources but you're also able to counter extra hard. The flip side is that if you use it and the other player doesn't avoid it then they lose one point themself. And the only way to avoid the full combo is to use their own Raging Strike to counter, which knocks you away. So now you're down one and they're down 2, which means if you get them to burn their point one more time somehow then your Raging Strikes are guaranteed to lead into full combos on block. But ALSO it's a combo tool, and a stupidly good one at that! Because if you Raging Strike mid combo, it doesn't eat your opponent's point, but then you can spend 25% meter to do a follow-up and that leaves the opponent open to a short combo. So you can jump in with a heavy, counter-hit, get your three hit string, Raging Strike x2, and now you have two or three more heavies you can throw in before finishing with a special for big damage. It's also worth noting if you have the other player in a corner then you don't need the second follow-up, meaning you keep the meter and just get the fat damage because you knock them back and then they can't fly away because of the wall. So they fall right back down into your reach. Stupidly good tech, you just have to be careful because you're literally trading your defense for damage and that can add up if your opponent makes a few good reads on you.

Really like the changes they made in Rising. It still feels beginner friendly in a way that lets you focus on neutral without getting too worried about skill input, but there's changes in mechanics to allow a lot more moves and possibilities.

I live in Thailand and my buddy is on East Coast USA. We played like 5 or so hours straight and only had about 4 weird interactions from rollback. Netcode is damn solid so far.

Yeah honestly I didn't expect the game to be a banger when testing out the Beta it was so fun indeed not to mention my trash set up could actually run it. Best part of that too is even if like it's so laggy af in ms like 200+ it's still smooth which just blew my mind, how did they do that indeed the feeling of close to no delay that's just insane indeed can't wait for the full release and trying out the other characters.

So many changes have been made to the game visually and mechanically so it makes sense to make a new game and if you don't want to buy the game there's a free to play version that has all the online features for you but you only get 4 characters

I said the exact same thing. I have faith Granblue will do just fine. Arcsys is working with a much better team than the team with DNF. They gave up on their own IP and then tried to scramble all the broken pieces and it was too late at that time

Probably zoners / characters who keep the enemy at bay and chip at their life. You might like Cagliostro or the one with the whip. But the best option is to just try different characters.

The girl shotos djeeta & katalina are great for reactive, defensive play. Anre and beelzebub are mid range bullies and ferry is a dhalsim like character. There's also trap based characters like lowain, Eustace and Cagliostro.

Gran, Djeeta, and Katalina are all really easy to pick up and learn. Out of the three I'd say Katalina is the most defense oriented though. Her standing unique attack (A/X button) is a shield that can be used to great effect. In all honesty though, just check out all the characters and main whichever one you vibe with the most. You might find you like a character/play-style that you wouldn't have expected to at first.

Depends a lot on what you mean by "defensive playstyle". If for you it means you don't like to take hits and you love to keep away opponents, zoners are your archetype. So you have Eustace, Ferry, Metera and I'll add Katalina and Anila to the lot even though they're not zoners (since they excel at spacing). Out of all of them I'd recommend Katalina who has a lot of tools to keep opponents in check while having great ways to avoid pressure and amazing fundamentals. If you consider a defensive playstyle to be "waiting until the right moment to strike", great choices would be the following: Charlotta, Vaseraga, Ladiva (a grappler) and in my opinion Siegfried. Honestly Siegfried is just plain fun and is so satisfying to play once you get those heavy hits you were waiting for it actually feels illegal. The best way to find out what you'd prefer is to play these characters (and the rest of the cast) yourself.

If used in a combo there's no difference between technical and simple inputs. The only time there's a difference is when you use a simple input special by itself

I just want to point out that the 10% Buff will trigger as long you don't cancel a normal in too the special, meaning characters that can combo without canceling get the 10% buff and a lot of characters can do that

Mostly did inputs but if trying to hit confirm or do a combo might be easier to do with easy inputs. A mix of both is ideal but honestly just going off whatever you prefer you'll still be fine

Yes, it's an old version of Japanese that the vast majority of Japanese people don't understand, and is the language that most works of literature in the premodern era were written in. Narmaya will occasionally use it when saying really cool phrases like "kirisuten" when doing her super or "yume ka utsutsu ka" in one of her special intros which is a phrase lifted directly from a collection of stories called Ise Monogatari. Being a big fan of ancient Japanese literature I naturally came to really like Narmaya's character.

The dodge/roll is very fun, harks back to KoF '98. In general GBVS is a love letter to neutral heavy fighting games and it should blow up freely now. The original game was pulling off $300+ pots for online weeklies despite delay netcode and a barrage of "it's not worth playing no matter how fun it is because no rollback" resistance from FGC talking heads. You have no excuses now, if you legit love classic fighting games, Rising is the best game this gen at scratching that itch.

So, how does this game play if you like, know how to play fighting games and are able to do combo's properly but just simply suck at them and actually play them for fun? Is it hard to learn? cause I do like to do combos and stuff and learn things even if I can't/don't play online.

Vanilla GBVS had tutorials where you can execute button inputs to practice character combo strings (IE auto-combo into your DP, juggle your opponent into your Super, etc.), and I'm sure Rising will have the same thing. The character-specific combo strings weren't available in the beta, but it'll probably be back in the game proper.

This game is probably one of the easiest fighting games to learn because of modern controls. You don’t really need to use inputs but you can if you want to do max damage 😂. It’s like a mixture of Street Fighter and Tekken with parries and combo extenders it’s pretty fun.

Motion controls are pretty trivial after a while. Honestly my problem with granblue's motion inputs vs beginner input is there really isn't too much motive to use classic inputs. Even in combos, the damage bonus doesn't apply if you cancel from a normal. Characters that can link specials benefit from the damage bonus more than others. 90 percent of the time , the speed which you can use the special is better than the damage bonus.

@@spicyluvsyou Letting people use simple input in combo is a very good thing. It stops the problem so many new players have burning out grinding combos in training mode then getting wrecked because they didn't put any training time into their neutral. It gets you actually playing the real game, the footsies, faster. And the 10% damage buff on neutral tech inputs does add up, Metera can now actually play like a real zoner and win off well timed fireballs. Other characters that throw skills on neutral often like Cagliostro and Anre also have it much better now. And both Eustace and Charlotta should continue holding 1 because the only time charge moves have ever been problematic to pull of was mid-combo.

Personally I didn’t find the combo system all that engaging, even compared to games like SF6. I knew it’s a very neutral focused game, so I wasn’t expecting UNIST combo freedom or anything, but even then it felt very linear. Then I remembered I’m a grappler player anyway, picked Ladiva, and started having fun lol

@@rainer9931 It definitely felt like a game based around the 4 different versions of each special rather than the normals. The normals almost felt like they where thrown in there to just be A-B-C combo filler rather than interesting and satisfying tools in and of themselves (which is weird for a game supposedly focusing on neutral). They felt very homogeneous across the roster. That said, I also felt like I was missing something while playing it, so it’s possible I approached the game the wrong way, and were just mentally stuck in comparing it to how other fighting games work. It definitely felt like meter management was THE most important aspect of the game, which is also my least favourite part in most fighting games.

It gets a lot better when you understand that the combos are more situational than actually getting any hit and convert it on your regular combo, counter hits are huge, this is why in this version the strong counter hits lead to a slowdown so you can convert from there, also combos differ depending on the opponent being standing or crouching, Crouching combos have more freedom when it comes to confirms and links, Ladiva for example can force crouch state with headbutt giving her opportunity to extend her combos even on midscreen, for sure you will not get UNI type of combos but you still can have a lot of variation with hit confirms and now with the new system mechanics

@@Vekysus Yeah, like I said, I definitely felt like I was missing someting, because I knew there was no way L-M-H into Raging Strike launcher into a couple Special move juggles could be all there was to the combo system, even in a simpler game like this. That said, I felt like the only move that gave me something unique on counter hit when I messed around in training mode was 5H, but I was probably missing something there too. And I never bothered exploring link combos or standing/crouching differences (even though Ladiva’s headbutt very obviously set up for link extentions), so that’s at least an interesting nuance.

the funny thing is, given he's one of the strongest non-deific characters in the game's world, it really doesn't matter (to give an idea of his strength, in the first event he appeared in, he took on an army alone... and won.)
