I really miss my days as a projectionist. Nothing I loved more than building a film and showing it. Digital took that away.

This is great. The last opportunity to see film projectors in use. Love those horizontal film spools. Oh the days of waiting for the top-corner cue-spot to change reels !! But even these look really modern & quiet compared to those 10 years previous.

That last projector sounded like your loop was too small.

I've been looking at these video clips of various projection rooms and theatres, and I don't see a lot of the equipment that were the workhorses up here in Denver. The Ashcrafts, especially the Super Corelite lamphouses and Century SAW & DAW projectors, were the favorites of General Cinema Corp., but many of the other "hardtops" (indoors) used Strong Futuras, Excelites or the Peerless Magnarc, paired with Simplex E-7s or XLs. Drive ins used XLs and Strong Constellation 170s and the Jet Arc.

I hated all those American projectors, nothing like the Kinoton used in this cinema.

the guy running the 5 projectors had it easy, at my old job as a projectionist i had to run 20 by myself and I was expected to stay on time during my 11 hour shifts...
@AaronDeanHenderson
@AaronDeanHenderson 9 жыл бұрын
not that i expect anyone who hasn't worked in projection to understand what they are looking at or what it takes to get that film through the projector before you can run it... I liked the job but it was a grueling and repetative job... the only excitement happened when film broke... lol... but i had enough to do keeping track of 20 different theatres. most companies would split that many between 2 people i hear, but the company i worked for were cheapos...

I used to run 16 screens and that was hard at times :)

No wonder the focus and framing was so poor in some multiplex cinemas. All one person can do is lace up, set a timer and on to the next screen. I doubt the projectionist had any time to ever look at the screen. At least with digital, framing and focus is a thing of the past.

I loved being a projectionist when I was in high school! Never once had a brain wrap! Too bad all of these film projectors are being replaced with digital ones.

Too bad the contrast ratio of the new DLP projectors is so poor compared to what film could do.

Those American projectors you dislike so much would last 50 years or more if properly cared for.

Keep the chain greased, it will last forever, unlike belts that stretch and break. Best projector ever.

@Likethabritish Hey, I've been a projectionist at a Cineplex for the past few years, which one are you at and what type of questions do you have?

Hit “pause” I got to get more popcorn... why don’t they have intermission anymore?
@MichaelBeeny
@MichaelBeeny 3 жыл бұрын
Add all the intermissions up and remove them, that's another show added, more money. Some silly people think cinemas are all about entertainment. WRONG, it's all about selling you popcorn and money with a film thrown in for good measure.

Anyone know about the kinds of projectors used or can give me any information on being a projectionsit ? At my cineplex, there is nobody with experience and they need to train somebody new to the position and there are about 20 people interested, so its going to be tough. Any help would me much appreciated :D

Digital is not even close to being the same as film. Wish to see traditional projectors be brought back into existence. Digital makes me sick.

35mm projectors had a charm all of their own.the picture quality on the digital prints don't even come close to the image produced by a 35mm print.i wish true film and projectors would come back but at the end of the day i would imagine it was the cost of the 35mm prints that bought about its demise.
@MichaelBeeny

@@ANTONYTHEDRAWINGMAN Film print $10,000 Digital copy $10. It's not nothing to do with quality of image, just cost. Most people will never notice any difference anyway. People are happy to look at a 4 inch screen on a telephone, so anything they see in a cinema will look good.
@gregfaris6959

@@MichaelBeeny A 35mm film print was nowhere near $10,000. A 70mm print, with magnetic striping and recording could get there, but the 35mm prints running off high-speed development lines were costing distributors a few hundred dollars each, and they looked it too! Let's not forget one of the factors helping digital get a foothold was how awful 35mm prints were looking toward the end.
