In 1957, a young man named Darrell Robertson enlisted in the US Army and participated in a secret training programme in the middle of the Nevada desert. He and his fellow recruits were sworn to secrecy and, for decades, told no one of their experiences. In 1996, the US government declassified the project and Robertson was finally able to tell his story. In X-Ray Man, Robertson recalls training exercises in which the Department of Defense used him and other soldiers in nuclear tests more than a decade after the horrors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were already well known.

For our country to pay this man & many many others back this way is absolutely disgraceful. Its sad that most people don't even know a thing about this

Couldn't agree more. It's unreal how many Americans have no idea how much atmospheric nuclear testing took place on their own soil, and out in the Pacific. After assisting so many of our Atomic Veterans obtain their cancer compensation from their radiation exposure in atmospheric nuclear tests, what matters most to them and their families is validation. Many were told by the VA that their cancer wasn't caused by the US Gov't, and some are even told flat out that they are unable to prove their participation in those tests, largely due to the fire @ the National Archives back in the 70's. These radiation exposure programs are set to expire in July 2022 unless Congress votes to continue the Act. So many of these brave men and women died with their secret. Never forget. Continue the fight. Let your state reps know that you support the continuance of the Atomic Veterans Radiation Exposure Program.

Smokey was the shot he references being able to see the bones in his fingers.

Yes it was, Smoky, the test he referenced was the 19th shot in the 1957 Plumbbob series’s. Exploded on a 690 foot steel tower at 44 kilotons. Slightly over twice the power as the bomb dropped over Nagasaki.

Every Time I hear you saying you could see an x-ray of your hand I want to eat my own brain cells with oat milk. It irritated me to no end, and nobody calls you out. Human eyeballs cannot see x-rays! You saw light going through your flesh but not so much your bones leaving the impression of those areas being darker. Do you understand? Gawd! 'i saw the x-ray of my hand, and for just one instant, I was transformed into a real-llife Dr Magneto, alas the powers were fleeting and I could not hold on'. Lol
