Hey there loves,
Today's video is a little discussion of a couple of plays I've recently read. And then, because I can't stop talking apparently, we also discuss why I think reading plays is so great 🙂
Let me know what you guys think! I hope you're all happy, healthy and reading lots.
Lots of love,
Vix xxx

Just purchased both plays, you give the most marvellous reviews!! Very thoughtful and considered commentary - also, I love your description of reading plays as 'brain gym.' I would recommend 'Grounded' by George Brant' to you, only takes an hour or so to read but such a powerful play! :)

Loved loved loved this 💙 1) You need to read Peter & Alice, I think you'd adore it. 2) Can we read plays together via Skype? Maybe The Seer by Ali Smith if Phillip fancies joining us?! 3) I hear you re Beached concern on reading. Our actors were so good and directed in such a way that it felt like coming from place of truth rather than played for laughs. Sometimes Arty has power through comedy. And because it's dark comedy sometimes there's a moment where you laugh then (hopefully) question it. But generally we felt very "with" the family. But if you only read I get that wouldn't necessarily come through which is problematic xx

+Amy Jane Smith We can absolutely read the Ali Smith - he'd be more than happy to join us! That'd be so fun. And I totally agree about Beached, I think that's what makes the difference between reading and seeing sometimes - amazing what a difference delivery can make. And oh my gosh, Peter and Alice!! I've wanted to get hold of that forever - thanks for the reminder and for watching my love xxx

Hello again, Vix! I adore this video. I think it is your best video so far. To me, as an amateur actress during my teenager years plays weren't hard but I remember people in my class who thought that the compulsory plays that it was horrible. I would recommend you to read 'Don Juan Tenorio' by José Zorrilla (I hope you can find a translated versión). It is the first time that the figure of Don Juan appeared. I know that it is old fashioned and that female portrayal aren't the best but I loved how you could actually criticize masculinity and the idea of being a heartbreaker back then as well as now (and it was the only play that caught the eye of those who dislike plays). When I was living in England I tried to explore Shakespeare as much as I could but I could not afford going to see it live so I had to wait an extra year to read the plays I had to study for my Creative Writing MA. i was fortunate enough to have a fantastical theatre professor and I read 'Hamlet' (compulsory) and 'Romeo and Juliet' and 'Much Ado about Nothing' (which I have seen as a film and I adore it). Being able to read these plays in particular, knowing that I wasn't able to see them live in England, was a pleasure because I could analyze them individually and apply my own views of themselves too (this exercise was compulsory during the course). I filmed videos about them in the channel too, if you want to check them out :). By reading them I also practiced my English and I compared how they were translated into Spanish, which was very interesting. Do you often cast actors for the plays you read while you are reading them? I did that and I want too se if it is only me or some others readers do so. Great video! Lots of love!

+The Inked Path Ahh Clara, thank you - that's so wonderful of you to say! :) so glad you enjoyed. I wish theatre was more easily accessible & cheaper. Shakespeare is so wonderful on the stage!! But I'm so glad you could get so much out of reading them too. I will get a hold of Don Juan and I may even read it in Spanish :)

Bilingual Bookworm Hi Vix!! I am glad you liked my comment. It was a pleasure watching your video. It would be great if you could find "Don Juan Tenorio", which Is the name of the play.I would love to see what you think of it!! Keep in mind that it was written in 1844 so it is classic theater and topics of the time period. But I love that a cultural figure, the heartbreaker, was created out of fiction and was, later, established in real life. I hope you enjoy it😊 Do you also read in Spanish? Any Shakespeare recommendation? Which play of him should i read next? Xx

I wuz told by an English Lit. PhD student right here on booktube that S'peare plays were NOT to be read but to be seen. Period. Millions of students & others have read these plays. I guess there is feuding within academia about it. *** There seems to be a political split between rival power factions in lots of different countries, not just USA and UK. That ain't gonna end soon. Look for email issues being brought up (in one way or another) vs several left or left-leaning major candidates just prior to various nat'l elections. It looks like an anti-left formula.

+TimeAndChance I see that student's point, but I'm not sure I agree - I think if your only option is to read it, you should absolutely read it and there's still a lot to be taken from that :) ain't had the truth about hacking just before major elections - seems to be becoming a trend.
