you learn work ethic and more in-depth technical skills. if you think that everything is in youtube for free, it's actually the surface level stuff. unless you avail actual online courses. you also earn a degree which puts you in advantage than those who don't. it's not just about the portfolio, but also the variety of the skills you are proficient with. on the other hand it's really an expensive course and you should ready yourself on some of these: your classmates may be better than you, they'll frequently squeeze out your creative ideas, (depending on the school) the pacing of deadlines can put you on a lot of pressure but overall it's still fun in its own way

Hello! In my experience art school gave me tools and settings I wouldn’t normally have access too, and teachers to help guide me through learning art in person. For me the benefits were the locations as well as the variety. I benefited from learning things like textiles and painting in person. I think if you want to go but aren’t quite sure you should consider the type of learner you are, what tools would you have access too, locations, etc. maybe try some small art classes and see if you vibe with it :) I went to two separate art schools, and for me personally I’d say it was worth it, but in the end you’ll have to weigh the pros and cons yourself. But if you have the resources and feel comfortable in school environments. I’d say it’s worth a shot :) I believe you might have to build a portfolio in some cases. There are loads of resources online for help with that. I hope I was able to provide some help :) good luck!!

hii there! im not sure if this is really helpful but i have the same situation where i wanna do both art and psychology (i can’t pick ☹️), and something i recently learned is that depending on the college/program, you can do a masters in psychology without doing anything before that (like a bachelors)! so basically you could do art then find a place that offers masters in psychology and lets you take it without having any prior knowledge about it, if that makes sense! i think it’s possible do to the opposite too, id just advise you to research well about whatever it is, and keep asking around :) that’s how i found this out, when i asked the psychology teacher at my school since im trying to decide between art/psychology ! - hope this made sense or helped out!
