Use the tree guard Olly..not just rabbits but the deer if you have them around will strip the oak in minutes and all you'll have is a stick.

We have a Sunday roast in the winter months and then not so much in the summer. Its part of life for me I grew up with my mum cooking them and then ive carried on for my kids. Had a bit of beef from the butcher today was lovely. Feeling well fed and about 90% :)

Use the tree guard as it helps to protect the tree base during maintenance of the surrounding area.

Rich (The Funky Farmer) is celebrating 40 years of farming this year around 200 years of history on the family farm. He’s now got his Facebook page back from the Hacker to.. unlike potted that can be planted any time bare root are planted anytime during dormancy, (Nov -March) they need water but never when frost is likely. A tree guard is essential to protect from ring barking that will kill any plant. Rodents, Deer, rabbits & the worst being Squirrel. Roast most days of the week & today was nice mature local lamb 4.5Hrs low and slow .. lush mostly home grown veg ..

We have a roast almost every Sunday, less so in the summer. I can’t imagine not having one! I would suggest using the guard, keep it save as possible.

I do alot of bare root tree planting through the winter! Diagonal tree stake with a rubber tie,Definitely guard and timber rail construction, if deers nibble the top it stunts the growth and the tree grows funny. Keep vegetation from growing at base! When james is an old chap he can say my dad planted that!! ❤👍👍👍

We try and have Sunday Roast usually in winter months and less in summer as our and about! Today we had boiled gammon with parsley sauce and roast potatoes with Yorkshire puds as it’s sons favourite! We planted an oak for the queens diamond jubilee and that’s doing well!

Never underestimate a rabbit especially with a cold patch coming on and potential snow! I have seen them climb a five foot hedge at end of garden to pass over fencing! Many people stake a tree with a slanted stake to direction of prevailing wind.

I have a Sunday roast a couple of times a month this time of year but never in the summer, great idea by Richard, the 40 trees and put the guard round it Olly its their to protect it. Best time to plant them is now 👍

Yes to guard. Cut it lengthwise to make it easier to install. I would also remove at least a foot of grass around it so it doesn’t compete. Mulch it. Or use some of the many straw?

I would recommend putting the tree card on the tree because it stops anything from eating it like the deers tend to have a nipple on them too.

Grey squirrels also damage trees. Birch is a bit more resistant as the bark contains lots of resin and it also self repairs better than oak. I also always put a length of perforated drainage pipe a few inches away and to same depth. Helps in times of drought and as a way of getting nutrients to the roots.
