A32NX Gets Electrics! Real Airbus Pilot Takes a Look MSFS/X Plane 11

With the addition of the electrical system ECAM page to the A32NX mod it seemed sensible to have a closer look at the Airbus electrical system and how we use it. We will also see some failures using the ToLiss A321 in X Plane 11!

I am a real world Airbus pilot with thousands of hours flying the real aircraft and thought it would be fun to have a look at the new detailed simulation of the longest baby 'bus by Toliss as well as the new MSFS a320 NEO. Hopefully you find this useful and it brings another perspective to your simulation. Any thoughts or comments are welcome!

FBW team member who wrote the ELEC functionality presented in this video here. It's good to note that electrical power consumption, with things such as generator load, transformer rectifier amperes, and battery charge/discharge aren't yet modelled. I'm working on those at the moment. Also good to note that while the ECAM does display the right connections between buses depending on the aircraft's state, the aircraft is in fact still powered by the default electrical system. Replacing the default with this new implementation is another thing I will work on soon. The clunks sounds is something that is now being worked on by another team member. The emergency generator is modelled to a basic level. But we're waiting on the HYD system to be modelled before finishing that part of ELEC generation. It is possible to see the automatic switching of AC ESS FEED and switching to TR ESS by having ENG GEN 2 running and turning OFF the BUS TIE.

I'd say, that there not many things left to do, until its really the best. One of the things is finishing the efb, finishing the custom FBW (which will take a while), adding a hud, modelling the Rat and few other stuff

I love these tutorial videos you do, especially with the little bits of trivia thrown in. They are very educational, fun and of course entertaining. Thanks for the work you are doing, you've shown me an enormous amount of knowledge about the Airbus and hopefully you can continue to be a major asset to our community. Seriously FBW mod is becoming how we will define MSFS, we always say, X-Plane got the awesome Zibo mod and now we say MSFS got the awesome FBW and WT mods ;). Good job FBW team!

Few things to say - all good by the way! 1 - This was a really informative but importantly understandable explanation of the electrical systems. I will now pay more attention to the electrical systems with a bit more understanding. 2 FBW - amazing - cant wait to see all the load % added in and love seeing the progress - as someone new to complex systems I am finding it very helpful to see they systems added by FBW and learning as my confidence grows (with your support). It feels like a course gradually building my understanding. 3 - I have been in the hospital for 2 weeks with a broken ankle and MORE unfortunately the hospital WiFi (London Royal) would not let me watch any you-tube live streams or comment on any video through my phone. Happily, I watched the replays - -- its good to be home and back to watching live. Thank you so much for all your videos and thank you FBW

If you want to point out a mistake to this FBW team: the APU and the EXT PWR do not have a green triangle as can be seen in this video on the ELEC ECAM page. It is only a normal green line going from EXT PWR or APU GEN to AC1 and 2. This is a mistake that can be easily corrected.

Thank you for your feedback. Might it be that you're talking about a non-neo version of the aircraft or might there be differences between A320neo types? The photos from within the cockpit that one of our team members has made has the green triangles above EXT PWR and APU.

I believe for RAM to work the guarded bottom overhead needs to be pressed. The red button that says RAT MAN ON.

Not always. If both AC Bus 1+2 are lost it will deploy automatically

I saw a RAT in Zibo, and PMG 737 and 777. But it will be nice to see on Tollis and FBW. Another thing, what it is the Commercial and Galy & Cab bottons and when you should use it? And I will be pleased if you could talk a little bit more of IDG 1 an 2 Thanks.

Pressing the commercial button would shut off: Cabin and cargo lights Water and Toilet system Drain mast ice protection Galley IFE/In-Seat Power Galley and Cabin I think are just IFE and the Galley as they are big electrical consumers

I'm aware that this qn might be a little complex, but why isn't AC ESS and DC ESS connected to BOTH sides, instead of just side 1?

GEN1, 2, APU and EXT PWR provide alternating current. Alternating current cannot be connected in parallel unless you've made sure their phases are in sync. I don't believe such syncing devices exist on the aircraft, which is why only one AC source can supply an AC bus at one time. With DC ESS connecting in parallel would be possible, as you don't have the same issue with DC power. There must be some good (likely safety) design reasons for doing what they did, but I don't know why they designed it like this.

Good question. I dont think so. Landing at faster speeds would be more risky than landing with a normal config and losing elec power on landing. The batteries should still be able to power crucial displays in the cockpit.

what is the difference in deploying RAT manually from the EMER ELECTRIC overhead plannel and hydraulic overhead plannel ?

The RAT push button on the HYD overhead panel only deploys the RAT; whereas the push button on the EMER ELEC PWR overhead panel deploys the RAT as well as activates the emergency generator. I don't know why they made it like this though.

Please could we have some videos for people who are still learning the system and maybe a full flight tutorial step by step and what correct data to input in and reading flight plans and graphs?? I mean your videos are great but it's always based for the people that have a very good understanding of it.

@@koloy999 first off what a profile name you have that's brilliant. Yeah the KZfaq ones are good but he doesn't do a whole flight. It's always about this a320 mod and not everyone has or wants the mod due to bugs and that.

@@reece650 I would recommend that you go and install the mod as it really improves the experience flying the 320. They have a version of the mod on their website that is stable and bug free.

You should really go back and look at all of the older tutorials he's done. I had never used a flight Sim until a few months ago and because of his videos I now can fly it with no problems at all. He does a great job of dumbing it down.

@@flighterer you know the majority of people on MSFS have never played another sim or still have X-Plane right? So yeah there are still people who are buying Toliss because of the quality they are getting right now. Is anyone making a decent A340 for MSFS2020? An A321? Or even A319. You’re really pessimistic that Toliss will go under very soon. Wonder why you didn’t say FSLabs will go under or Aerosoft?
