Its been a long time coming finally getting to drive this killer old 1955 Buick Roadmaster down the road! Is this the perfect grocery getter/ family sedan or what! We saved this old Buick from rotting into the ground at its final resting place. It was abandoned not by choice but unfortunately the last owner passed very suddenly, and it sat for over 20 years in a yard with an abandoned 1966 GTO that we were also given the opportunity to save. This Buick is a lot better car than that GTO, unfortunately the old goat had a rough life and is full of rust. The Buick really only needs floor patches, the main body of the car is super solid. We have been slowly restoring this cool old hotrod one piece at a time. Serviced everything, new wheel cylinders and rubber brake lines, a little bit of wiring and some fuel. She ran and ran good at that! Finally got those killer baby moon factory Buick hubcaps mounted with a set of used tires so we could cruise it around the yard. Slapped a super budget friendly $100 dollar interior in her and patched the floors with road signs and license plates. I cobbled together some FREE exhaust from left over pipe we had laying around. Then Dad rebuilt the original generator and got the charging system working. Now it's time for some new tires and she will be good for hauling the family on vacation or to church on Sunday or... grabbing some groceries on the way home from work.
Well, this one has been an adventure! I got some brand-new tires for the Buick and took off those maypops. $372 bucks for 4 NEW tires! I went ahead and changed the rear diff fluid and paint the cover a killer gold that looks great with the patina green paint that left on the car. Cars runs and drive FANTASIC! This is the first time this cool old, abandoned Buick Roadmaster has been driven this far in probably 30 years. Was not without a hiccups though. Ran well all the way to town and started running hot on the way home. Hot enough to boil the coolant out. I think the radiator cap wasn't sealing and that was part of the problem, I also think the thermostat stuck on the return trip. 409 and 0000 steel wool brings the color back out on the original paint and cleans the chrome up too!
