Abandoned Urbex Canada

Күн бұрын

This very cool Geodesic Dome House has been abandoned for over 20 years. In 1985 a very talented artist bought the land for $35,000. She had a dream of building a Geodome House. Constructing began in the late 90’s. For unknown reasons she stopped the construction on the home and abandoned the property. Geodome homes have more efficient air circulation and keep temperatures even throughout the structure. This can make them 2 to 4 times more energy efficient than traditional homes. These homes also insulate more efficiently due to their unique shape. Because of the shape and are less flat. It can stand for harsh weather and natural disasters such as tornadoes and earthquakes. The bigger the dome home is, the stronger it will be.

About me:
I have been exploring abandoned places since I was a child and now I would like to film the explores and share the videos with you.
My father took me to my first abandoned house when I was 7 years old. I remember going into the house and a old farmer came in and told us "we better watch out as the floors are all rotten and unsafe". Ever since that day I was hooked on exploring abandoned places.
If you have a location you would like to share with me or want me to explore for you please send me an email at abandonedurbexcanada@hotmail.com and I will give you full credit for the share in the description and during the video if you choose.

Dome homes were really big in the 80s and 90s. The shell was sold as a kit. So all the windows, framing connections, etc. Were sold as a kit. You could pay more and get all of the lumber, sheathing, windows, etc. already pre cut. The basement was just standard framing that you put together. Then you put your dome together on top. They are neat. You do end up with a lot of weird shaped rooms though.

As a carpenter it is both sad to see all that work going to waste. Having worked on many old houses even with gaping holes in the roof and water destroying the 2nd floor and first floor and basement framing I have repaired such disasters. The worst problem with lots of old buildings in NY and New England is powder post Beatles. That place looks repairable. Definitely squatters were there, I think they also used the orange tarp, it never would survive from when ever this was abandoned. The TGI that you mentioned as I- beams give it away as probably the 90’s. A good clue to look for are in the spacer bars inside the insulated glass. There’s a date in there and like you said the triangle windows are custom built so probably pretty close date to when they were delivered. The OSB sheathing usually has a date on it as well.

A colleague built one much like this outside of Thunder Bay ONT. back in the mid 1970s, A contactor built the basement tank and everybody chipped in to help pitch the walls/roof at weekends and evenings over a summer. It worked out pretty well but he ended reconfiguring it inside after a couple of years by installing vertical walls because his wife got fed up with not having enough wall space to hang picture etc. on!

We are approaching retirement but he's an engineer specializing in stress analysis so ANY project takes 7-10 times longer while he recalculates and performs random analysis...lol.....I can't wait through years of analysis and then the actual construction phase which he will micro-manage.

Hey dude! are you in an old trainyard again?? this looks very similar to the rotating house that was built on top of an train turntable that you covered a few months back...is this spot nearby there? the inside and layout of that tiny house looks like an old station house too especially with that hanging lamp! .. I think some people with some money was going around buying old trainyards and trying revamp them into some crazy things 😉Great video! Oh I just noticed you're in Northern Ontario too!

You should come out to Colorado in the States. We have lots of abandoned structures here. Great work as always!
