Hey house lovers and explorers!
Today we take a look at a couple of homes built around 1940. The first being an absolute stunning art deco/ginger bread style home with a 2nd level loft area and art deco themes everywhere!
I have had these homes on file for a while and have some history on the first which will have to be added in a follow up video.
The second home is very much the same old English stone Tudor style with steep pitch gables but in a larger version. Sadly the second was in the salvage stages so much of the interiors were pulled apart. These style homes with stucco rendering on the exteriors were distinct to the late 30`s and early to mid 40`s here in Adelaide.
Hope you enjoy the tour, cheers for watching :-)

Two things about tin lined cupboards, they were used mainly for bread & cakes to keep them fresh & also tin was often used to deter mice activity 🙂

Magnificent...retro. The bathroom is trippy❤ The original cupboards, yes please! The glass in those doors beautiful, and the fireplace OMG❤. I believe up stairs is original. I didn't see any major problems with the structure. I would snap it up in a instant. What a shame

The first house was spectacular. The hardware, the art deco styling, the kitchen, the leaded glass and fireplaces, wow, just wow. The grab bars in the bathroom left me thinking that the last resident was possibly old. Who ever made the decision to take down this beauty should be ashamed of themselves. So glad you got to document it before it was gutted. Seems that developers are the same the world over. Tear down well crafted homes, built to last for many years so they can throw up shoddy built structures. Destroying beauty, replacing it with junk so that they can gather more money. Take care, stay safe and healthy.

That first house is just beautiful, so many cool features; the fireplace, that red bathtub. Everything very well cared for over the years. I think the castle in the yard was a water fountain. Second house looked Iike it was very nice prior to being disassembled. *Sigh* all in the name of progress, what a damn shame. Thanks, Paul

Loved the front outside of the first house. Nice inside too. Love the lead light glass. Always one my favorite things in an old home. I didn’t notice any cracks. It’s a shame to demolish it. The second house was a shame you could not get to that one before they got that far in the demolition process. Thanks for another great video ❤️.

It is a crime to simply knock this down, the home is in good nic, and the property is beautiful. The tin lining in cabinets was to keep rodents from chewing their way in. Loved the downstairs bath…very dramatic.🖤🇨🇦

The first house is still quiet beautiful in appearance and condition. I agree, the gardens would have been quite spectacular and well balanced in its layout and planting. I found it unusual how the washing line was the centrepiece of the backyard. I would say that the kitchen sink is the original by its overall size and rippled surface, most likely made by Lytton (? ) Australia, I know they were made from 1946 onwards. The Shower head @ 11:25 isn’t original, this type of pin-jet outlet came out during the late 1980’s as a water conserving fitting where low water flow would still give high pressure water jets, almost in a massage type fashion. It’s a shame this house is being demolished as it would still make a great family home with great character requiring very little work inside and only a few days work outside.

Lots of good salvage between the walls , and elsewhere, the house can be moved as a whole, or disassembled then rebuilt at another location. Seasoned 85 -90 year old lumber holds up well in these older houses. Gingerbread art deco houses are a real challenge & a treat to work on.
