It was run from 1874 until 1995. the school didn't close down due to any tragic accidents or anything because the explorer found decorated banners that had "Sayounara" written on in, implicating that the school was closed down properly (may have been due to lack of students, as that is the most probable reason schools in Japan and shut down for).

I just started watching your videos and, since I've been in Japan for 8 years, I was surprised to see this just got up a few days ago. Makes me wish I could have been around to give a hand in translation. A few notes: 3:08 It says “Foreign Currency.” Guess they were showing pupils how foreign bills looked like. 5:48 Yeah, spiders get fucking huge here. Saw a phone booth near my place full of those last year. Potent nightmare fuel there, but nobody luckily uses those anymore. 6:08 Big characters: “ハ木 宙 参上” (“Yagi Sora was here,” but my reading of the name and interpretation could be off). In small: “Who are you?” 6:20 Don't know if it was the case here, but I do know someone who was renting space from a nearby closed school for storage. This could have been stuff left there for storage. 6:34 「ようこそみなみかわへ」 “Welcome to Minami-Kawa.” 8:00 「青梅」 “unripe plum” (Not sure why that's written there.) 8:05 「職員室」 “Staff Room”. 8:09 Flyer informing people that, starting September 2007, recyclable plastic should now be disposed in a specified plastic bag. 8:33 A placeholder to write the month, date, and day of the week. 9:55 I chuckled when I learned this was the “creepy” music. Many towns has that chime playing at 5:00 (or 4:30, or 5:30, depending on the place and season). Sometimes, it's accompanied by a recorded message. It's simply a message asking kids to go home before it goes dark and tell what time it is. The music is usually played on the town-wide speaker system. Hope this was informative. Keep those videos coming!

It’s really eerie when the melody starts playing and he said that the time was 4:44, which the number 4 in Japanese (probably also Chinese) pronounced same as death 「四/死」 (shi) . But as his companion explained, it wa probably on purpose though... With the location and situation, those kind of coincidence makes really good vibes :D

It really is a traditional Japanese School. In Japan, its common to have tea breaks and clubs, also Japanese people take their shoes of always and wear slippers, to keep everything clean. They're also quite strict about uniform and don't tolerate misbehaviour. Some schools in Japan have rules like, your not allowed to have a boyfriend/girlfriend and stuff

The music you heard is informally known as the 5 o clock chime as they are played every day at 5pm to test that the municipal disaster broadcast system is working properly. This is a nationwide system used to quickly relay messages in case of disasters like earthquake and tsunami and they are a set of speakers mounted on top of a tall pole, most likely the one behind the tree at 10:53, hence why you thought it was louder upstairs. It is timed at 5pm as they thought if they are going to play a tune, it might as well serve a good purpose too as 5pm is the time that all kids should go home as it is getting dark. That particular tune is called "yuyake koyake". It is a Japanese children's song.

the reason why you love abandoned stuff is how i like car junk yards...every old stuff and place and things tells a story..people like old music and people like trying new foods....it tells a story...you cant help but think and want to feel how it was back in the day...and why the school was abandoned....abandoned things tells a lot of story my friend...that feeling of eagerness is part of the adventure..the thrill of exploration..to venture to the unknown despite the obvious known...you just want to hear the stories and you cant help but speculate of allt he things that happened and are sad that will never happened again tot hat particular place. it gives you that sense of empty feeling...and looking at abandoned things and places help but gives you story.

So, 90,000x0.02=1,800. Again, I have no idea of how accurate this is, please don't take this as the true equation!
