This asylum first opened its doors in 1866, holding up to 200 patients to begin with.
By the 1960’s it had the leading child Psychiatry Department but things had drastically changed by 2014 when a case was won against the hospital for neglecting a child.
A family had raised a number of complaints before finding out about the seclusion room that had no light, toilet or water.
They said that their son had been left inside this room overnight unobserved and suffering from an untreated broken hand.
This lead to it being abandoned and replaced, leaving its long hallways dark and silent, filled with memories from its past.

PMSL! You were nowhere near either the Child & Adolescent wards - or the PICU, where the 2014 incident took place - both are in detached buildings that can't be accessed from the main corridors. I was a patient in both, from 1977 - 1981; and I have been locked in that completely empty room you mention, many times... (There is actually at least two of them in what was ward 4; and probably more in other departments too). You've done quite a good job of mixing those news reports, presumably to make it harder for people to identify; I assume you know what occurred in both cases? The wards you were in - and those endless corridors that linked them, mainly housed psychogeriatric patients - and I can tell you, there were no nice false ceilings or modern doors back then; and those baths look relatively new and not at all the enormously deep, enamel ones they replaced - that originally had heavy solid wooden lids to prevent the occupant from doing anything other than screaming, as alternate hot and freezing water was added and drained away... Yes, that's what "hydrotherapy" looked like during the first half of the twentieth century... The bath with the electric control panels are a safety feature for more modern use - mainly by people with little or no control of either bladder or bowels. There were an awful lot of terribly poor souls in places like that until quite recently - some of who most probably had been there for most of their lives and who may well not have been mentally ill at all when they were committed in less-enlightened times. They'd simply have made some mistake that was deemed socially undesirable in less-enlightened times - the classic ones including girls who got pregnant while they were still at school - and quite possibly also the boys who'd caused it - if they could be identified... A culture of abuse exists within the nursing and management structures of that - and associated hospitals. Note that I'm talking in present tense... Ward 4 may have moved into a nice new purpose-built unit with ensuite rooms for every patient, huge floor to ceiling windows and even enclosed garden space - but I wouldn't betting that they still get talked down to by their minders... Restraint only gets used as a last resort now - in theory; but if you've got a staff team and maybe even a nurse-manager who give into the intense pressure of their peers and turn blind eyes to what should not happen... They certainly still had the managers when I wrote to the then Chief Executive of the hospital trust in 2015 - both supporting my belief in the 2014 patient's version of the events - because I too was treated in exactly the same way, and in the same room, and in the same ward, 33 years earlier; and suggesting that it was extremely unlikely that any of the staff who'd been working on the ward in 1980 would still be doing so in 2014 - and so, that alone proves that the staff behaviour is cultural and not isolated incidents. But they wouldn't have it - and when I wrote back in response to their denial; they informed me they'd passed my correspondence onto the police without my prior knowledge - and that they couldn't see how that in itself constitutes an abuse of power! If you want to hear more horror stories, I have it all written down - so feel free to ask. For your future reference, I think you entered at the opposite end to the present-day hospital, and from the rear, over a grassy mound. Ward 4, of completely empty room and completely sadistic, sarcastic, bullying bastard nurses who'd literally drag you across nylon carpets thereby causing really painful friction burns that would be seeping and even bleeding as they tripped and then pushed you downstairs and then smashed you off the walls before pinning you to the floor, faced-down and injecting you with who knows what when you reached the said room - which you normally entered at about 40 miles an hour - such was the velocity of the foot that had just made violent contact with your arse - but, who would then close ranks and tell your enquiring father during his visit that what you were saying was "just part of your illness," and not at all real; and that your bruises had been self-inflicted... All for the slightest demeanour, like taking a short break from the daily relaxation exercises or swearing about the completely soul-destroying plastic basket weaving the called occupational therapy... And the Department of Child & Family Psychiatry was the single-storey building named Playfield House - about 400m behind the camera, where you took your title pic from. The white-harled section was the adolescent unit - which had 18 beds for 12 to 18-year olds from 1966-1995; while the yellow-brick bit had 10 beds for kids aged up to 12; from 1976 to 1995 - as well; as two 6-bed houses, into which whole families would move temporarily, for family therapy - whatever that was,

Sorry to hear how badly you were treated. Inhumane and sadistic practices are still common in Psychiatric hospitals. I spent 2 weeks as a patient at Carseview in Dundee and witnessed some dreadful treatment carried out by a small minority of staff to some of the "problematic patients" When I left l Immediately contacted the local press who were not interested despite Carseview being under scrutiny. After a written report in 2018 the chief Phsyciatrist of an English health board said, having read the report and evidence that Carseview should be closed down without delay. Sadly no one was held to account for their actions. The usual practice of a a Health Board closing its ranks to prevent bad publicity and financial implications.

There is still and probably always will be abusive carers,nurses and even doctors. I have schizophrenia and when I was in my local hospital one of the nurses became aggressive when I told her she was given me the wrong dose of Quetiapine (She really was) grabbing my arm and even left a bruise, she was lucky I didn't hit her one. As for psychiatric hospitals when I've been in those today's modern smaller hospitals its pot luck if you get a nice team of nurses and there is a culture of not believing you if you make a complaint because you're labeled as mad! This is the kind of thing we have to deal with. I don't get why abusive carers/nurses continue with the job if they can't handle it or don't like it or easily get frustrated, do something else or find another area of healthcare.

Remember doctors and nurses sometimes end up mentally ill after treating these patients for years. Which is why the feeling of heaviness, sadness, depression often overwhelm many explorers of these institutions. Don't take these feelings home with you always carry black tourmaline and burn sage around yourself when u leave the premises.

It wasn't a ghost or anything supernatural. There was probably just a groundsman that worked security and seen the lights from the torches inside. Would have also been that same person that called the police as it's not likely that there would have been police just hanging around an abandoned mental asylum in the middle of nowhere. Someone must have called to tell them people were in the building.

Loving your uploads👌 if I’m not mistaken that hospital looks like Stratheden in Fife. A huuuuge Victorian complex with some later additions. However, if it is Stratheden, parts of it are still open and in use so perhaps your lights were spotted from the other buildings by staff and the police were called? The voice/laugh was so creepy! but did not sound like the police which I am noticing some people are commenting. Did the police sound like manic/deranged people...I don’t think so...Anyways keep the uploads coming guys 👌 and happy new year!

This is beyond my comprehension that a parent would put their child in a place like this in this day and time. It seems such a hateful thing to do. God love these children.
@rach8440
@rach8440 3 жыл бұрын
Maybe some of the parents had no support to raise a mental/physical unwell child. Maybe the child was a result of abuse to its mother by a family member. Possibly removed from their mother who had her on issues. It sounds awful but without these types of care settings now there are so many additional needs adults being left to lead more 'independent lifes'. Many have very high sex drives and the want to feel loved and end up reproducing. It sounds so heartless to say as like us they are only human, but they are often not capable of caring for them self properly nevermind a child who has a very high chance of needing additional support 😐

Great video guys. I’ve been here a few times, the place is amazing. As far as the shouting male voice at the end goes, the hospital isn’t actually fully abandoned. The hospital site is made up of many buildings only some of which are abandoned. There are still patients, nurses and security staff in certain areas. It would have been staff who called the police. It’s also a well known site locally and not hard to reach, there’s always been signs of other people every time I’ve been.

Yeh maybe take Derek Accorah in next time lol He would come out with one of his amazing one liners, such as, "I'm getting a really strong sensation that children once occupied some of these rooms!"

Yeah cos Dan hasn’t been cautioned by the Police for hoaxing the bone vid. Karl didn’t get filmed flicking objects from his hand at the Ram or using airsoft replica firearms, previously used by Dan in his arms find, planted in a bunker on a Randonautica video. Andrew pretty much constantly uses “suggestion” in his vids. Surprised Sam & Jess are using Karl & Nat, their knowledge of the paranormal barely fill a sentence.
