When Searcy closed in 2012 it was a great loss to those with mental illness. That hospital was serving to help patients to stabilize on meds and get them back to being able to be safely in society. It also had Pouncy inside the grounds and that was for the mentally ill that had committed crimes so they could receive treatment and not be put into a prison system, now they are in prison which is not equipped to give them the treatment they deserve. Our citizens with mental illness have lost a safe hospital to go to now to get stable and it was all because our government didn’t care to spend the money to help those that need it most. Yes Searcy had a past long ago that was not ideal but that changed after the 60’s and good people worked there caring for people with mental disabilities and they became like family for many that were in and out of the hospital over the years. It truly is a sad loss and we owe those with mental illness a safe place to be when needed. They have nothing now.

The ‘Sani- jet’ is for incinerating used sanitary products. We had one in my old school. Had a latch, I had nothing to put in it but curiosity got me. Lots of rumbling through the old pipes. I’m sure smoke had filled it when I opened the latch back open after flipping the switch. Set off an alarm, had to alert the janitor. Whoops to curiosity. Cool device though. Now we have waste bins in women’s bathrooms.⚡️✌🏼🙋🏻♀️

Impeccable historic- documentation. Beautifully shot and narrated. That footage from the ice pick lobotomies was horrifying. O the abuse of arbitrary power! Really eerie that only the patients got that disease and none of the staff. Wondering if it was disease like sickle cell anemia were only black people were susceptible or if it was something more sinister where it was planned experimentation with biological warfare and the staff were inoculated beforehand. With the inhumanity exercised in this place, it wouldn't be *_that_* surprising.

It was from lack of niacin in their diet, they were not fed well in those very early years of the hospital. Before it closed in 2012 Searcy was a very good source of help for patients with mental illness to go and get stable and the staff became like family to patients as many would have had to go back and forth over the years. Now there is no place for patients to go to get stable, instead they are left to suffer and if they have families it’s left for them to do their best.

Went with some friends awhile back and took pictures in front of the canteen building at night. When we looked back at the pictures, we saw a face in the window in the background. It was the creepiest thing ever. We also heard a laugh and it sounded like a woman was laughing psychotically when we were outside and this all happened at night. We were also getting cold spots and chills. This place is definitely haunted and I advise not to go alone.

Due to the lack of nutrients in their food primarily amino acids the disease set in. This disease could have been cured with including the B3 vitamin or Super B Complex in their diets. They were probably starving along with some being not diagnosed as with mental retardation instead diagnosed as insane. Many in the South died from this disease primarily do to theirs diets being corn. This world is made to exist around money, if money were to disappear diseases along with other bad stuff would go away along with being a happier healthier and having no homeless place to be. ♥️✝️🙏☮️😊

There is a grave yard somewhere on the property. Geronimo and a band of indians were temporarily imprisoned there. Cabins and a school were built for them. My grandfather helped to build the brick wall surrounding part of the hospital.

4:11 that is exactly what that is ! Your standing in front of the old incinerator and that grey sediment that has the fox tracks in it at 4:32 is the old ash that's been slowly draining out of the incinerator🥺 Your literally standing in what's left of the draining ash from cremated dead people 🤮🤮🤮 I am from and still live in Alabama but even though I've never been to this one I have however been to and opened a couple old decommissioned incinerators and that exactly what in them ... the truth is it's actually perfectly safe to touch and it's not going to hurt you but it's absolutely disgusting to think about , especially when you get it on your hands and then go to wipe the sweat off your face before realizing what your doing 😂😂😂
