All to painful to come back? Can you be sure they didn't want anything to do with her? Because that tends to happen with mother's, they tend to think your not able to live your own life and you have to be ordered around... And that tends to leave a gap that allows a human being to feel they have a right to punish you. The moment someone feels they have a right to manipulate your life, is the moment you should leave them alone in a room to rot. I know if it were my mom... I wouldn't have been the one to find her. I'll see her at the wake to say goodbye. I'll tell her that I loved her to her when she's in a state where she can't interrupt me. That way no one else has to subscribe to her narritive, that I'm awful to her and hate her. I'll tell everyoke the truth about how hurt inside i am at her funeral and no one will ever know we fought. And the one day, I'll die. But I won't see her again then either. I will go back to the earth forever, i will not become a new being or a new life, i will not go to heaven or anything like it...I will give back the sum of my parts and be free, and that isn't a bad thing... You wouldn't want to be around forever...

Dear Lad I am 99 yrs old and I could never leave my Mum and Pops things behind and all those lovely family pictures. This woman was a loving giving soul. Her family should be ashamed of themselves for leaving unreplaceable family photos. And I love the sewing machine . I recognize many things in the house of my times. This a terrible shame. And Lad thank you for showing respect for the lovely souls home. God Bless you Son.👵🙏

This story is almost 100% like my grandmothers best friend. She lived next to my grandparents out in the country and passed away in 1987 when I was about 8-9 years old. After getting out of the army in 2014 I went back home and saw that the entire yard and small trees had basically covered everything of the ladies house. I went over and looked inside and it hadn’t been touched and was fully furnished and was exactly the same way it was all those years ago when me and my grandmother visited her when I was a child. I found a key on the back porch after clearing a path with the weed whacked and when I entered I realized that no one had been inside in decades and they had left all of her stuff the way it was before she died. It was like a time capsule.

I lost my Mother many years ago, I understand how painful that is but there is no way I could walk away from that house knowing my Grandfather built it and how much it meant to my mother. I would have gone through it and either kept things or given them to folks who needed things, then If I didn't want to keep it I would have sold it to someone who would have brought it back to it's original glory. Thank you for posting this video, Jeremy. You show respect for the dilapidated house and the widowed lady who died there 30 years ago (1992), and treat her story with honor and compassion, in your gentle voice. It's a rare documentarian who acts with restraint. Whoever this mother was, she was doubtless a kind and generous soul. So sad to die alone. What a shame her three adult children, left behind so many precious antiques and mementos! It must've been very hard for any of them to go back to their childhood home. This is so heartbreaking. I can’t even watch more than 20 seconds of this because of what I imagine this lady went through. It reminds me when my sister wanted our mom in a rest home, then take ownership of our mom’s house. But I fought for my mom to stay in her house in probate court. Children, not all, but there are those children who are cold hearted and ruthless towards anyone who gets in their way of getting everything they want. Where were this woman’s family? The only thing I find solace is she remained in her home, not in a rest home. I used to work at a rest home and the elderly there were always crying and screaming and becoming combative because they wanted to go home. A lot of the elderly are neglected by their family. I’ve witnessed their loneliness and sadness.

This is one incredible home. The detail and workmanship is beautiful. You telling the story about the home and family is so sad, from start to finish. My mom still lives in the same home that my dad bought in 1965. My younger sister and nephew had to move in to pay for the up keep on the house. I'm here from 5am to 5pm taking care of my mom. My sister who lives in Texas comes home and stays for 3 months every year to help out with our mom. She's 87 right now, I can't imagine this beautiful 90 year old woman living in this big home her dad built her by herself. How lonely it must had been for her. Thank you for this remarkable heartfelt find. See you on your next adventure! Blessings to you always from Southern California ☀️

I live in North Dakota now and I love exploring the old, abandoned homesteads. You never know what you will find and I always wonder the story behind them. A friend from our church, who is in her late eighties, took me to her Aunts house. She had passed away several years ago so the house remains just as it was when she left. There were old cars still outside. It was much like this one. All the furniture, beds and a piano were there. The family had a book on the kitchen table for people to sign when they come through. Bonnie also took me to the home where her parents lived when she was born. It was a little one bedroom house. Her fathers carpentry shop was out back that he built along with another building he worked in. It was so neat seeing old cans like oil, antifreeze cans, along with nuts and bolts and even a very old rusty, faded Pepsi can and old rusty tackle box. Her daddys truck still sat out back in the field. I know the thrill of coming across these things that you experienced coming across the things in this house. You did a great job at the story behind the history of the house. That was literally a place she spent her whole life and raised her family. Thank you for sharing.

Just discovered this brilliant channel. Jeremy. I live in the UK and we dont seem to have much of this issue as houses are not allowed to be abandoned for so long before the local councils step in. I love your respectfulness towards the human beings who lived in these homes. Lots of judgements about why this home was abandoned but she was 90+ so her children may have predeceased her or were too old or frail to deal with it. Still very sad story. Keep up the great videos.

Very well done video and I love music. Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross’ song “Less Likely” would really fit here. Anyway. That really is a thing that people do. Leave things the way they were. My sister died in ‘92. My parents never changed her room. They left it the way it was for over twenty years. My dad died in ‘13. As 30 years approached of my sisters passing my mom decided to make small changes. Made her room into a guest room. A few years later my mom passed away at home. This is my childhood home that my parents bought brand new in 1975. The house sat empty for 6 months or so. It was so painful to come over. I could only be at the house for an hour at a time max. But now it feels like home. A lot of great memories. Some really cool renovations I’m doing here and there with my second wife. My parents would love the house and what we’ve done. That it’s filled with love and laughter again. And a different generation of grandchildren now. Nor sure why I shared all this.

Awesome video . I was a kid in the 80’s and my Grandparents always had things from the 50’s as well because the elderly at that time were raised through the depression era so they weren’t wasteful and really kept things nicely and for a long time . That sewing machine is amazing, some collectors would kill for. Even buttons and things are collected. But so sad to let all of those beautiful things that she took care of go to waste.
