On this channel we go deep... REALLY DEEP into abandoned mines and tunnels all throughout the western United States. We researched some of the harder to find mines and hiked or 4x4 back into them to explore and reveal their hidden secrets. Many of these remote locations are filled with cool artifacts, antiques and unique geology that will have you guessing as to why the old prospectors worked so hard to find gold, silver, and other minerals.
A&FP moves just a bit slower as compared to other mine exploring channels. Gly discusses why the miners chose these sites and he points out the geology and minerals that got them excited. Veins of quartz filled with gold and silver made many men lose sleep in the 1800’s and early 1900’s and modern prospecting still does to this very day.
DANGERS? Oh yes, there’s allot of dangers associated with old mines. Un-exploded dynamite, blasting caps, bad air, bats, spiders, and snakes all find their home in abandoned mine shafts and tunnels. Oh, and let’s not forget rotting timbers, flooded passages and collapsing rock!
Gly takes abandoned mine exploring seriously with all the proper safety equipment, training, and experience necessary to do this activity as safe as possible but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a bit of fun along the way. “Gly”, your host and his band of crazy characters “Old Bob” (Gly’s Jeep), “Quackers” (Gly’s duck) and “Bobbie” (Gly’s hula girl) are sure to brighten your day with their comments and silly antics. Heck, they may even give you a chuckle or two.

Glad to see you, Gly! Regarding that graffiti at 30:05. Wonder if it was put there by Gustav Liljestrom. He was a fairly well known landscape painter from Stockholm, Sweden who emigrated to the US in 1902. He and his brother were copper miners in Arizona for some time (thanks Google) before moving east. Just a shot in the dark but who knows! That name is not all that common here so maybe?

Gly, I try to imagine blasting and clearing that winz, then getting ladders in there, building them, then getting on with the business of hauling ore and waste rock...by the light of carbide lamps. You are such an inspiration! I've been with you since the beginning but this is the first time I am commenting. I am so glad you are back! I am so happy for you and your new-found health and energy. You have always been so positive. I am challenged with severe arthritis in my spine. I'm hoping after the second surgery this winter, I should also be on the other side. But in the meantime, I am enjoying your trips into awesome Mother Earth. I have a geology degree, and so much enjoy slicing right thru the mountain for a real up-close look at the rocks and minerals. Always fascinated at these mines Gly. Not a stanger to hard work but it always strikes me at how much extremely difficult work was exerted by the miners that dug and excavated these mines . I always wonder how many of them actually made money or whether their dreams of fortune were dashed and eventually had to give up or went broke trying. In today`s video I was also struck by wondering how in the heck in that small narrow angled shaft you managed to get down into that it must have been extremly difficult to retrive the ore that they were able to get. I am always in awe of people, places and things that went before me. Deep respect is due

Gly you really are a Blessing to so many people! Your testimony and your determination are an inspiration to all of us. My wife has gone thru cancer twice and i know what she went thru so you climbing around for us its just an AMAZING Blessing! I myself have had six spine surgeries so i cant do that kind of thing with my young son, so being able to watch you do it is just great! great to see ya back, coolness 100 as a Phoenician, i'm really looking forward to see some Az undergroundness. i've been a para since 97 and now been living with type 2 since 2016 and that neuropathy is no joke. most people don't know that it can affect the brain stem too. it's great to know that you have overcome several obstacles to get where you're at. happy belated birthday btw gly! i'll be joining the 50 club in around 15 months. isn't wisdom grand..when we were young and dumb we kinda disrespected the gift of age, but when life happens every year is celebrated and counted as truly blessings. thx 4 letting us tag along with you while you bring the truly stunning views of a bit of what good ole mother nature has to offer 4 us. Belated Happy day of birth. I turned 75 last November 5th and it seems my crazy youth (happy Southern California hippie) ended about when you were born. When you were 1 I ruptured a disc in my back (L4 S1)and you were 6 when I had a spinal fusion. Before you left high school I was working as a paralegal Private Investigator which I retired from after 27 years. In your youth I also worked in a wrecking yard for a few years learning about auto mechanics

The fact you could do all this after having just dealt with chemo is very impressive. That takes a lot out of you, and from what I understand from people I know who have had cancer, the memory problems, fatigue and neuropathy caused by chemo and sometimes the cancer itself are no joke, sometimes that stuff can last a year or more after being taken off the drug! It's also awesome that it seems to have lead you into doing something you absolutely love.

Happy to see a person who hasn’t given up after a health scare. Love your narration whilst meandering through these interesting mines. Just out of interest have you ever followed up on some of the miners names you’ve found in the mines? Thanks for your enthusiasm in making these doco’s.
