And no auto tune! Just real genuine talent! Well said, it was an innocent time relatively, a sweet time, in music and in our country. ABBA was huge and so much fun to hear at a club. Yes, older person here: was 19 when this came out in 1976, and it brings back memories of a special time.

I love ABBA, grew up listening to their songs via my mother, aunts & uncle, their songs weren't only catchy but meaningful and emotional at the same time, even their slow tempo songs were great, their transition from 70's to 80's style music also was taking place which they did quite well to adapt to both eras of old rock & folk music to new rock & disco vibe, it's bands like these that transcends generations and bring in new fans is knowing how to adapt to new styles

LOW notes in the verse to the HIGHEST notes in the chorus. Bjorn and Benny said they got the girls to hit notes they didn't think they could. Frida said she cried when she first heard the demo tape of the melody; it was that good.

Greetings from Australia, Dereck. I've been an ABBA fan since their heyday in 1976, and to this day, I still love 'Dancing Queen' as a great pick-up on a bad day, and the joy of the song enhances a great time. They were extremely popular in Australia for about 2½ years from 1975 to 1977, and the fandom was feverish here to the extent that they called it 'ABBAmania' (just like 'Beatlemania' a decade before), there were times that there were three of their songs in the top 5; Fernando stayed at number 1 for 14 weeks; there were TV specials - even one of our TV Stations brought them out to Australia to record a couple of TV specials, and so many other amazing feats. Here's a link to a clip of 'Dancing Queen' live in Sydney, from 'ABBA the Movie', where the concert parts were filmed in cities around Australia. ABBA were very popular with kids and their parents and their grandparents, so you'll see a lot of kids in the audience too (who'd all be, on average, in their 50s now, like me ...lol). I went to a rainy concert they had outdoors in Sydney Showground, and regardless of the sogginess, the crowd stayed, and it was a fantastic night. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eraEiKtqyeDMn4E.html By the way, I'm really enjoying your ABBA reviews, and it's great to see you enjoy ABBA so much. Could you *please* review these two ABBA songs (hint-hint ...lol), also from 'ABBA the Movie', that are both very different from each other, but I think are two of the best complete-performances from that film... "Why Did It Have To Be Me", sung by Björn & Frida (this showcases Frida's wonderful showpersonship and fun sense of humour): kzfaq.info/get/bejne/i7Rzd9dmlsnbfKc.html (Agnetha's not on stage then, as she's changing costumes for the next song, which was called 'Thank You For The Music'); and a song that has great vocal dynamics (especially in the chorus), called 'He Is Your Brother': kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bMCIg86Yr8nbioU.html Cheers.

"Older folks", lol, I are one!! I was 14 in '76 and yes, in retrospect, was a pretty innocent era, regardless of problems...it was a time of honesty, evident in the truthfulness of music lyrics, tv programs, etc... FYI Sorry Google translator On June 18, 1976, the group performed the song at a televised gala from the Royal Opera in Stockholm, dedicated to King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden and Silvia Sommerlath, who was to get married the next day in the Great Church in Stockholm. Dancing Queen was not written for the royal wedding with Queen Silvia as inspiration; they chose to perform the new song at the TV gala because the title and "queen theme" fit right then. Dancing Queen was released as a single only two months after the royal wedding. This was also not the first time the group performed the song. In the spring of 1976, the group performed the song in television broadcasts on both German and Japanese television

You should do a reaction to their best and final album The Visitors, it's totally un-ABBA like. Had they decided to continue as a working band you will see the direction they could've taken their music: synthpop. They've already laid down the groundwork for electro dance pop with Lay All Your Love On Me.
