Hi everyone, welcome to Abbey's Kitchen! In today’s highly request episode of What I Eat In A Day KZfaqr reviews, I will be taking a look at Sweet Potato Soul!
A few disclaimers:
1) The information in this video is for education and entertainment purposes only, so you should always speak to a health care provider about your unique health needs.
2) The recommendations for each individual meal I review is designed to give you a variety of ideas on how to optimize meals for balance, variety and satiety. Whether or not one individual meal or even one day is balanced or “healthy” does not matter in the grand scheme of ones health, especially if a person is eating in response to their physical and emotional needs. I give suggestions as examples and inspiration for you, but you can also gather this data for yourself over time by listening to your own body and figuring out what feels good.
3) Please be kind in the comments, here and on Jenne's channel
4) TRIGGER WARNING: some graphics and discussions may be disturbing to some viewers so feel free to skip this video.
5) Don’t forget to subscribe to this channel and ring the little bell so you never miss out!

While on gluten free diet (because of grain allergies), it would be intetesting to know how cooked rice and rice flour differ in the levels of arsenic. I've understood that cooking in water lowers the levels. Does this also happend to rice noodles? Also it would be nice to know, if one can help to drop arsenic levels by cooking rice in a right way.

Random 🙃 Video idea.... I would love a “how to talk to our children about body positivity” language to maybe try avoiding etc. my daughter is 15 months and I was recently catching myself talking negatively about my body 🤦‍♀️ I do it “jokingly” or “sarcastically” but thought to myself I never want her to feel inadequate because I somehow projected my own insecurities on her. I am generally very happy in my plus size body, but old habits die hard, I still catch myself saying things like “I feel fat today” or “delete that picture I look enormous” anyway love your videos 🙌🏻

That’s so awesome that you are cognizant of that! We develop our insecurities young, so it’s so awesome that you are thinking about that. One this I REALLY recommend, is not to make positive comments about their body either (not their hair or stuff like that, as that won’t change throughout their life) (also if the comment about their body is about what their body can do, that’s amazing, I’m talking about comments about how it looks) my mom, grandma, and in general just a lot of my moms side of the family always praised me for being thin because I was a super tiny kid. I was constantly praised for it and in middle school my mom constantly told me how jealous she was of how thin I was. Then when I gained weight and was no longer stick thin (I’m still relatively thin, but I used to be like 1 like inch thick gap thin) I panicked and hated my body with a passion. I feared every pound and stretch mark I gained, and I can only assume that a lot of that is due to putting so much of my worth and identity into my weight staring for a super young age. I just wanted to let you know😉

Hey Abbey, I was wondering if you could do a series on the "healthiest" cuisine in the world. Like doing a deep dive into what Okinawans, Koreans, Iceland(ers?), Spainiards, etc. eat, what makes it so healthy, and touching on other factors like exercise, genetics, and anything else I'm not thinking of. And I think it would be cool to learn about some unexpected things in their diet. For example, Koreans eat a lot a lot of salt but they're still healthy!! It's interesting and I dont know why the salt doesn't catch up to them but it does for western diets. I've seen other videos like this but they seem kind of.... diety to me. Hopefully other people will upvote this if they'd find it interesting. Or make their own comments.

Yes, basically a Dietitian's take on the Blue Zone diet?
@forestgreen9002
@forestgreen9002 4 жыл бұрын
@Minerva A This has never been confirmed beyond speculation, it could easily be environmental or genetic. Keep in mind many Asian cultures have very similar diets yet not the same rates of stomach cancer.
@forestgreen9002
@forestgreen9002 4 жыл бұрын
@Minerva A Health is a combination of mostly genes, enviroment, and somewhat diet. The most notable thing a person can do diet wise is not eat excessively (currently the leading cause of diet related illnesses, such as obesity, heart disease and diabetes) and get a good range of foods in. Other than that it's genetics and luck.

THAT'S WHY I'M NOT HUNGRY?! This shit should come with a manual.
@PurpleCows
@PurpleCows 4 жыл бұрын
From a therapist's standpoint, when you're anxious, your body is in survival mode. This kicks in a ton of different systems to keep you alive. If your anxious, your body is thinking that it needs to run from the trigger, hide from it, or freeze to not be seen. When adrenaline is high, some other functions like hunger don't get kicked in until you feel safe since you're vulnerable when eating.

Ashley J. Zayas interesting! I am aware that I run on adrenaline. I am one of those people who when very stressed do not eat. During lockdown I was loosing so much weight while people were gaining. It sounded good to my heavier friends but it’s awful if you can’t control the fact that you cannot eat!

lynncrf I’m pretty sure. It can be totally safe as long as they are getting all of the protein and nutrients they need. Even stuff like iron and B12 which is rarely/never found in plants can be are often added to things like cereals, but milks etc. As long as a doctor is monitoring it it’s okay, at least from what I’ve heard (BTW I’m not vegan, just sharing info)

My main take-away from this video review: "Galactagogue"! This sounds like a powerful space being. I want to name a band "Galactagogue". I love Sweet Potato Soul! Wonderful food. I'm glad you clarified your critique of really high fiber. I often get up to 75-80 g of fiber and it doesn't bother me, but I remember it took a while to adjust. @samantha pantridge it's absolutely intentional! This isn't anything new, especially on Tumblr in particular. The BLM movement has yielded Blackout events where non-black content creators will take a step back from posting their own content for a day or a week to instead promote the content of black creators over the past few years

I should say- I am glad you are reviewing more veg/vegan reviews that are good, like healthy and not restrictive or problematic. I also like the idea of doing a video on arsenic in rice, and maybe a milk alternative video? I add A2 in there for those of us who drink plant based milk because of a casein intolerance.

Watching your videos really give me a sense what a normal eating pattern should look like. I went from extremes to extremes because I never learned eating patterns that made me happy. I was slowly but surely gaining weight throughout my teenage years due to developing binge eating at a very young age (around 11 years old?) These Instagram and KZfaq eating patterns look like they make sense when they are really lacking and not sustainable. I really like the evidence based approach and will reprogram my brain into a healthy and joyful relationship with food. As a student I could never afford a dietitian. Thank you!

A couple years after 2 years of breastfeeding and switching to a plant-based diet, I did get a blood test and found out my iron stores were basically down to nothing. Not sure why but I am obsessed with the diet review videos as of late.

Fair enough, but there are risks to transitioning too. There are serious risks from the treatments themselves, such as blood clots and strokes. Plus, we don't have enough long term research to see if these also increase cancer risks over one's life span. Adults should be free to choose to transition for their mental health, but this should only be done with informed consent of the other risks. And sadly the physical health risks are never really discussed. It's not as simple as health first.

So I know intermittent fasting has been around forever by now, but I'm seeing way more people talking about doing a much more extreme version: OMAD, or One Meal a Day. They fast for 23 hours and eat for one. I'd love to see you do a video on it so I have some good concrete evidence when I tell people it's insane and they come back at me with "Well people need to do what works for them!" I just feel like this is 100% disordered.

Most people who do OMAD properly make sure they get their daily calories in, just because some people chose not to revolve their whole day around food, it doesn't mean it's 'disordered' behaviour. This is so ignorant and offensive to people who ACTUALLY suffer with disordered eating.

I actually do intermittent fasting by accident. It took me a while to notice that it was what I was doing. Simply put, I don’t eat when I am not hungry. I always eat breakfast, but sometimes I eat a late lunch then skip dinner. When I am more active, I eat a solid three meals with snacks. It depends on my activity level.

Questions: how much does calcium block absorption of iron? Tofu is a good source of iron, but if it’s calcium set, how much of the iron would my body be able to absorb? Would adding an acid, such as lemon juice or vinegar, help the iron get utilised better? Thank you!!
@MC-ko2mx

Such a great question. It gets confusing when a food contains a nutrient (iron) and also something that blocks the absorption of that nutrient (calcium).

Good question! Also wonder this for broccoli: it is recommended as a source of calcium but also as a source of iron ... can be a bit confusing if you want to be sure you're getting enough iron on a plant based diet.
@MC-ko2mx

@@Hasna256 Yes, and then there's the fact that you're getting less non-haem iron from plant-based sources is less easily absorbed. Does the calcium in broccoli further decrease the absorption of non-haem iron?
