This is true for me as well, I still drink soda but maybe 2-3 times a month (I dont really keep track) Which is a big difference from before when I could drink soda/juice with every meal. Not for weight loss or anything but I realised I was just too addicted to sugary drinks. Then again I never really like sugary snacks like cookie/icecream etc but Soda was my weakness 🤣

FrumpyFit is such an amazing role model on youtube, so smart, so honest, cuts all the bs, and is so kind. In response to what you say about calorie counting being a flawed science; that’s why she says give your self a range is much more helpful and realistic that a number goal. ex: 1600-1800 (just made up these numbers). I’m also glad to see that your not shying away from talking about weight loss on this channel anymore. While I understand most of your audience are people who have an ED, recovering from one, or have disordered eating patterns, there are also people who want to hear from a RD who are over weight/obese and want honest advice about healthy weight loss too. Also, your top is so cute!!

Thank you for being willing to expand your view on weight loss. I am not overweight but I am somewhat close for my height. I have noticed my weight slowly increase this past year, and I wouldn't typically mind except that my clothes are fitting tighter and I don't want to get a new wardrobe; I would rather just lose 10 lbs and get back to my most comfortable weight. So I plan on losing the 10 lbs sustainably and without restriction (I have a past of disordered eating) even though I still love and appreciate where my body is now.

Could you please do a review of "My 600-lb Life" on TLC!?! It's a guilty pleasure TV show at my parent's house but as a nutritionist I have so many feelings about it. From 1200 kcal super strict super low carb diet with no flexibility, telling them to just ditch their usual foods, the fact that seeing the patients being visited at home by a dietitian is RARE for an episode, and not to mention they start every episode with degrading footage of these people trying to shower. I feel so bad that these patients seem to just be sent out bi-monthly with minimal instructions. I just want to jump into the TV and help these people :( Of course there might be more we aren't seeing behind the scenes... but just portraying the episodes the way they do feels highly problematic to me. Thanks, Abbey. Love your content!!

I'm a bariatric patient, I had a gastric sleeve in 2015. That show makes me cringe, the follow up care is so lacking. I don't know if my particular hospital was just way above average, but I have visited support groups run by other surgeons. It just seems like they are showing these people for the guilty pleasure factor to make money, but I don't think it is accurate or respectful of these individuals. It almost makes me embarrassed to talk about my surgery and my journey, because people always ask about that show. But I also wasn't ever that heavy, and most of the people in my program weren't either, my heaviest was 279 lbs. That still made it difficult to shower and once I didn't fit in the older movie theaters seats, it's so embarrassing and triggering. Personally, my opinion is these are people not exhibits in a circus, and that show seems to make them into an exhibit and seems scripted so I just 🤦‍♀️ and change the channel. Sorry, you can probably tell by the length of my comment, I am triggered just thinking about it. In part, the surgery does make you unable to eat certain foods without very unpleasant side effects (dumping syndrome being one). Another thing is getting nutrients in a stomach that has gone from the size of a football to the size of an egg is something that we all have to be taught, you have to eat nutrient dense foods or become malnourished, those are the two options when a person's decided to alter their anatomy with surgery. Ideally, you have a good team which includes not only a surgeon, but a dietician and a psychologist. I still haven't met a bariatric patient who didn't have some level of binge eating disorder, OCD, anxiety, and has not been VERY programmed to unhealthy eating habits by the diet industry. We're some of the most disordered eating people I've ever met, so hopefully we have a good team of professionals to help us through our journey, but of course, not everyone is that lucky. I am 7 years out, and I can still reach out to my dietician, and the further out from surgery I am, the easier it is to eat "normally" so it gets really easy to gain weight back. It's so important for me to be able to email my dietician and still be able to access support groups. I feel like my success was from working on my unhealthy relationship with food. Most dietitians just get you past the healing phase, some maybe stick around the first year, when you are adjusting to solid foods, and I just feel that doesn't fix the mental part of what got many of us so overweight. That is called the "honeymoon phase" in the bariatric community, because the surgery is still so new, it is really restricting what you eat, so it makes following the plan easy. It gets harder the further out you get, the goal needs to be long term and health based- emotionally and physically, but many people are in it for profit. I hope that makes sense, sorry this comment is so long. It does seem problematic to me too, fat people deserve and want dignity and respect like anyone else.

And well, concerning you and Greg, I was always of the opinion that in many points you are not too far away from each other. The main difference is the way you transport your information. I think it's good that youtube has such different characters. For me personally Greg was very helpful to get back into a fit and healthy state. My wife on the other hand can't stand him at all, while she really likes your more gentle approach. The whole point of his anabolic ice cream and French toast is that they're lower calorie dense foods. Having instead more moderate portions of the "real deal" isn't as optimal because it means you're eating less, and that puts you more at risk to being hungry and binging. Great video btw!

My former GP was involved in one of those vitamin pyramid schemes as a side hustle. She'd run blood tests to try to prove that I had gluten intolerance or other "food sensitivities" I didn't have, then try to sell me expensive supplements. I don't know how people like this still have licenses and aren't being chased out by an ethics board. I think it's dangerous because some people do have these intolerances, but not most of us, plus they want to imply that every disease can be cured by changing eating habits. As soon as I figured out what's up, I was out of there so fast.

Jordan was one of the main youtubers that helped me in weight loss. Tracking calories, weighting myself but looking at the number just as data, eating a big ass salad a day and walking more were the base for losing 20 Kg :) Strength training was also a game changer for me, not only in terms of losing weight, but in enjoying fitness. I kinda love strength training and hate cardio but would always turn to cardio to lose weight, get miserable and drop out after a month or so. You should be good as long as you aren’t too much in caloric deficit(assuming you eat enough carbs and sleep well). Plus, if you are feeling hungry all the time, then you simply need to eat low caloric foods with high protein and fiber to satiate your hunger. Then, when you are no longer hungry, you can have a bit of those fatty and sugary food in moderation (at this point, you should already be full, so it is very unlikely for you to binge in the high caloric food). Your comment might be a joke, but I really wanted to give a logical response 😅

Do you guys sometimes also get hungry for a specific nutrient? Like, some days I'll eat a lot of chicken and salad, still hungry, bread, still hungry af, and then I go for like a teaspoon of peanut butter and the hunger goes away. As if my body is saying "yep, that's what I needed, finally some fat, thanks, I'm good now" Sometimes after a workout the same will happen but with carbs.

I get over powering cravings for milk sometimes. When I was pregnant it was really bad. I also craved peppers, tomatoes and carrots during that time. I actually don’t like milk or raw veggies so I figured my body must be as something.
@jocec820
@jocec820 3 жыл бұрын
My Dad's doctor said that craving is your body saying "I need this thing to fix something!". The body knows what it needs. Back when my parents got married my dad got the flu, and ran a high fever. He told my mom he wanted a glass of milk. She refused because consuming dairy while running a fever can make the milk cuddle in your gut, making you throw up, and her main concern was keeping him hydrated. His fever was not going down. She got concerned and took him back to the doctor. She brought up that he kept asking for milk. The doctor said "Well, maybe that is what his body needs to fight this fever. Give him some. It will either help him, or make him throw up." S, she bought a gallon of milk and ended up standing next to him refilling his glass while he drank half of the gallon. Fever started going down the next morning. The milk did the trick.

The craving carbs after working out make sense. Your body uses your blood sugar as energy for your workout, so it will drop. I have to be careful as a diabetic to eat something with sugar 30 minutes before my run so that I don't have issues with low blood sugar. I also have a small bag of cheese crackers with a protein shake after my run.

You refer to popcorn in the Jordan Shrinks section as "nutrient dense" (which didn't quite make sense), but in the Greg Doucette section, you refer to it as a "healthified version of junk food." Jordan Shrinks is advocating the exact same thing Greg Doucette is, in replacing more calorie dense favorite foods with less calorie dense ones, and you are very supportive of Jordan, while you were critical of Greg. They even both included the same suggestion of popcorn as one of these foods, and you portrayed it positively in Jordan's case, and questioningly/somewhat negatively in Greg's case. Kind of interesting.

I was wondering if someone else noticed this too. Abbey lost some followers and got a lot of nasty(inappropriate) comments with all her eye rolling and ‘critique’ of Greg, as she puts it. Reminds me of when I would fight with my brothers as kids and my parents would force us to compliment each other until we started behaving civilly again.
@heidih3048
@heidih3048 3 жыл бұрын
@@theirmanager5204 I didn't quite understand why Greg's response to Abbey's video on him was so aggressive (still don't)-- it made him seem irrational (along with his followers who were aggressively criticizing Abbey for what seemed to me to be a fairly normal dietician's critique). But here, in comparing her response to Jordan Shrinks to her response to Greg Doucette in this video, it is clear that there is some sort of bias. Not that that is the end of the world ...
@theirmanager5204
@theirmanager5204 3 жыл бұрын
I think he was set off by her whole tone, it was negative from the start. Rewatch the video for a lark, with special attention to all her eye rolls(seriously, count them) and dramatic sighs. I'm surprised someone hasn't made a supercut of it. It was pretty unfair of her, it prompted me to unsubscribe. Oh, and according to Greg, she removed the video and put it up again with some choice bits removed. I was shocked when she did an interview with John and even more shocked to see her include Greg in this video. Nice to see I guess.
@heidih3048
@heidih3048 3 жыл бұрын
@@theirmanager5204 I saw the original video, before the drama erupted and it was taken down. I really thought he was bizarrely overreacting to a very mild-mannered dietician-type video-- a few eye-rolls and typical dietary criticism is nothing to threaten "destroying" someone over. But that's beside the point. Maybe her bias in this video is related to the temperament of the subject (Jordan is favored because she is "nice," while Greg is criticized because he is aggressive and confrontational?).
