It was installed in the 19th century, Texas has its own power grid because they didn't want to have to mess with the feds.

Good news. Governor Abbott, driving the lead truck himself, is assembling a five mile-long convoy of power repair trucks that were alerted last week to be sent to Houston but never sent. Based on estimates from his success in the Big Freeze, arrival time will be sometime in September...

NE Houston resident here, it was just a Cat 1 hurricane but we got hit dead center so it is now the second day without power and the real feel temperature is above 105 so yeah we're hurting. We had to aid an elderly couple of neighbors last night with extra batteries, lanterns and food because they were in panic mode until an ambulance finally came and picked them up at 3am because the poor people couldn't handle the heat and the darkness any longer.

And thats only a category 1 hurricane. We are lucky it missed corpus Christi. A lot of people here said a category 1 was no big deal. It looks like a vey big dangerous deal. Prayers for all who are dealing with the aftermath today.

After Hurricane Laura and a week or so later Delta hit La./Texas in 2020 we were without power for four to five weeks. Fortunately, we had and bought window a/c units as the heat was pretty bad. Gas for our power plant was several miles away, but we made it.

@@FstateThats not socialism, Texas is a federal state that requires federal funding when private companies don’t want to help. Texas pays its taxes through municipal bonds which in turn receives funding. If we called every government handout socialism, we’d be fundamentally socialist.

Visiting my brother in Richmond, TX. The entire neighborhood lost power, over 200+ homes and we’re the only one with a generator🤔 I’m not from here, but it’s surprising that people living in the path of hurricanes don’t prepare accordingly

Folks be patient most of outages are breakers on the poles. If there are no down trees or poles power should be restored pretty quickly. The assessment is to figure out down lines and areas with flipped breakers. There are breakers on electric lines but u can't just flip them on with areas with down lines. Hopefully everyone get power back on in next couple of days.

Cali and NY have lost house seats due to depopulation while TX and FL gained seats . Bulldozers, diggers, concrete, asphalt all take time and money. Bucket trucks are already purchased and can access the problem in minutes- Understand? What if a buried water line breaks and electric lines are next to it? Yeah, water, electricity and the general public is not a good mix, not to mention the lawsuits from electrocuted customers. Next we have a underground short circuit and everything’s flooded. You ever experienced 120volt (or 220) standing in a puddle of water? You understand now why burying cables is simply not the way to go. Private or government it does not matter, you are WAY off base in you knowledge and experience here.
