You can go 12 years or more in remission with either breast cancer or any type of cancer and the cancer can and will return in either the same area or in another part of the body. I speak from experience because I had Esophageal Cancer in 1995, Breast Cancer in 2008 & Ovarian Cancer in 2011. I'm in remission right now and I pray the cancer never returns but my odds are very slim...sad thing is, it most likely will!!! My heart & prayers goes out to Shannen Doherty!

That 90210 episode entitled It's Only a Test, was an *extremely* important episode when it originally aired back in 1991. I was 15 at the time and that episode was my first introduction (along with a million other young teenage girls I'm sure) to breast cancer and the importance of self-examination starting at a young age. I'm so proud of the 90210 writers and Shannon for taking on such an important topic and handling it so well. Unfortunately breast cancer can strike at any age and while most lumps do end up benign, self-examination is crucial to early detection & treatment and that episode played a pivotal role in educating millions of young women on the subject. Also you gotta remember that the episode aired in 1991, way before the internet and social media. Nowadays you can access info on breast cancer with the click of a button but that wasn't the case in 1991. This was how important subjects were brought to light and addressed back then, by addressing them on hugely successful tv shows like 90210. Relevant topics like AIDS, drugs, sexual assault & rape, teen pregnancy and physical abuse were all dealt with on 90210 and the writers did a fantastic job educating an entire generation of young people on these important issues. So don't ever be sorry this episode aired, it's importance cannot be overstated. I guarantee you it helped, and continues to help still, a lot of young women who watch & rewatch the episode.
