My father was diagnosed with ALS in 2013 when I was 14 years old. He recently passed away 05/06/2024. May his soul be free and Rest in peace. It’s hard for the people that are diagnosed with ALS, Suddenly getting stripped away from their life. Not being able to do the simplest thing in life like drink a glass of water. Even breathing the simplest air without a machine with deeper stages of the illness. My heart and soul go to the families that are seeing their loved ones suffer from ALS. May God be with the ones that are suffering from this illness. My advice to anyone that has a loved one diagnosed with ALS. Give them a Hug and kiss, Cook their favorite meal if they’re still able to eat and spend much time with them. Most of all, Tell how much you love them. Te Quiero Mucho Papa

I was diagnosed with ALS on April 1st, 2008 at 17 years old. Still alive and doing pretty okay considering I've had it 15 years and am only now receiving my 1st feeding tube and possible breathing assistance machine before the end of the year. Other than that and needing to be in a wheelchair, I've been a lot better than I'd have hoped! I hope this is encouraging to those who share in my disease that it's possible to hang on and even hope for treatment, and hopefully one day, cure! Having faith in my God, great support, and finding the humor in everything really helps me. I hope you find those things, too! :D

So many people who succumb to this condition were very fit at some point. Do chronic punishing levels of exercise perhaps overheat the body and brain and do permanent damage? Does anything that overheats body and brain such as certain drugs, certain supplements, certain antibiotics, and perhaps iron overload (and high doses of ascorbic acid) cause permanent problems? Cod liver oil can cause iron overload because it sends ferritin levels (iron storage) through the roof. Perhaps ferritin heats the brain to a dangerous degree?

My stepfather was diagnosed with ALS in 2009, died in 2010. The disease progressed so fast. One day he was shuffling to walk, then in a wheelchair, then couldn't talk, by the time we had him measured for a wheelchair, he couldn't even use it. It was devastating to everyone to watch someone die. The diagnosis naturally sparked a depression and then anger then acceptance. If there is a treatment, that's so incredibly wonderful. Best of luck to all involved.

@whychoooseausername4763
@whychoooseausername4763 3 жыл бұрын
The patients need to be comparable so the results of the trial are variable. For instance if there are more people with breathing machines in the placebo group than the treatment group, you wouldn't know if their disease progresses because the drug doesn't work or because they have a more aggressive form of the disease that affects breathing particularly badly. If you have bad data, you can't complete your trials, refine the therapy and bring the drug to market for use for everyone. However in some cases, they will allow people who are not eligible for clinical trials to access the drug for "compassionate use" (ie: there's no other option and they are dying).

my mom contracted it probably when giving birth to me becaues i dont have any memory of her walking perfectly straight...my oldest memory she already had a lazy foot....when i was 12 she could no longer get up by herself so my dad had to take her in his arms to get to the bathroom...problem waas that my father worked as a mechanics teacher and wasnt there during the day...she peed in her chair....not long after when i was probably 13 he tricked her into believing she was going to reab to learn how to walk again....but in truth he was placing her in a nursiing home/small hospital...i can still remember my mom crying each time we left the hospital the first few months...it was enough to break my dad......he began heavily drinking....he would come to fetch me at my friends place totally drunk but would hide it as best he could...one time he drove on the opposite side on the whole way back home....one time he never came to fetch me so i went back on foot (3 miles) and when i arrived he was passed out sleeping on the floor right behind the front door and i had to somehow get him up and upstairs in the bed...i once heard him repeating ''bullshit'' in a whisper over and over and over all night while crying in his room...when i woke up he was gone and when i went in the room there was 3 empty bottles of Geneva Gin and a fully loaded 12 gauge shotgun on the bed and i knew exactly what that meant....then one day my gandma brought him home becuse he tried taking his life by driving intoa ditch BUT as he was very drunk yet again all he managed to do was total his car as he was going way too slow....after another time when he came to fetch me completely runk at my friend'S place, i called my aunt (mom's adopted sister) instead when he got there....she convinced him to go to her place drink a coffee and talk....thats when he exploded crying like a newborn and finally admitted he needed help.....what happened after that is quite fuzzy in my head but somehow, he met a woman who would help him go though it AND became his girlfriend...yes he was still with my mom (technically) but it was just impossible for him to be with her since it almost killed him seeing her decline so he slowly left the house to be with her while my mom was slowly getting out of the nursing home back at our own home with caregivers for morning, meals, bedtime...my dad would come rushing everytime she needed something anytime since....plenty of time i saw that in their heads they were still together but both understood that my dad couldnt handle it... life was stressful because each time my mom got sick, i knew she lost mobility as a result....her mind stayed the same the whole time....by the end she could only barely move the neck and couldnt sleep at home BUT would have the hospital bus take her home each morning and take her back each night while i was the caregiver while she was home...she say ''just show me your games and get food at noon''....so i displayed my video games to her for years becoming an elite player in the process....one day she got sick again when i was 23 and that time she didnt come back from it...she had lost the function to breathe by herself or even open her eyes and she passed away some days later....i later learned that the director of that hospital was suing her for what she owed the hospital...we would have lost the house 2 weeks later....that guy became instantly my worst ennemy and i pray each day that i never see him again because i really dont know how id react... theres more details to it obviously but that sums it up pretty good...im a crying mess now as you can imagine after typing all that...im 40 yo now and never truly healed from it...i cant keep a job because each time there injustice towards me i leave in a rage, i cant obey autorithy anymore unless what they ask of me is perfectly aligned with what i think, i easily fall in love with girls and i wanna save them whenever im able to...because i couldnt save my mom...also i had 2 girfriends and none of them have been able to endure ''being with me'' since they feel as if i cannot be helped from that so they both cheated on me then left....today i rent a room at a 77 yo lady's place who owns an antiques shop...im helping her with that whenever she needs because in the back of my head ''im finally helping mom'' and she knows about it....lets see where this leads me....now i need to go get some weed (legal here) otherwise i get to hyper to sleep so thanks for reading that (those who did) and cya

ALS is a very cruel and devastating disease. You have to be willing to fight it everyday. It is a death sentence no one should ever get. So much anger, frustration and many pity parties. If you do not have someone there for you through the whole traumatic ordeal then I just couldn't imagine. You just never know what life will hand you. I have been told that only the healthiest people get it. Now even the very young are getting it. Vets and the #1 people that get ALS.

They aren't quite illegal, the issue is that the stem cells come from human embryos that are created in a petri dish. The embryos might be just 5 or so days old but this is moral issue for some. Just recently though scientists have discovered a new way to collect stem cells from living people without harm so hopefully this will end the debate and this amazing research can continue 👍

What scares me more about this disease is when I see reports like this they always highlight the support patients get from their partners… I have nobody, I can’t pull my son out of university to care for me, I’m divorced and my family members are either very old or have health issues of their own. I think I’d rather take a pill and just end it quickly when it progresses to where I can’t look after myself…. Such a cruel disease.

In 2006, after I had my daughter, the doctor mentioned donation of placenta, as they can take stem cells from that. I provided consent etc, therefore that is ethical practice, methods like this would allow for more people to have an opportunity for some treatment. I think with stem cells , people can take a negative reaction , rejection within the body of the stem cells etc but once in the doctors can't do anything. Maybe this treatment has high levels of risk that medical professionals feel run too high, to treat every person as level of rejection within the body of each individual is unpredictable, and if every individual that got treated with stem cells took this response, doctors and stem cell treatment could loose credibity, and I know doctors are keen to do further research , clinical trials. This is why I believe that study's , trials are accessible as the individual has authorised consent, and if anything goes working, medical professionals can say it was a clinical trial and hold no liability.

Wow that was really stupid to say !! There are millions of people that go to church on Sundays across this country and can't afford to donate money but still go for the point. Geeeesh dude , did you really take time out of your perfect life to say that ?? You seem like such a great guy , I bet your invited to all the parties. I'm sure everybody just loves having you around.
