My pitbull told me when I got pregnant! She was a follow me everywhere type of girl, and after a lifetime of just lying on the bathroom rug when I used the toilet, one day she became VERY interested in my pee. A few days of shooing her away for acting like a weirdo, and I connected the dots with other clues and got a test done. She was such a smart cookie!

I had a boxer named Tajson (like Mike Tyson). He always knew who wears which home slippers and he was always offering them upon out return home, in a form of the jolly dance show.

Thanks for clearing up the idea that dogs feel and show guilt when they have done something we don't like. Too many people swear it is guilt for wrongdoing rather than reacting in a way they have learned help reduce your pissed-off--ness. I really hope no one has punished their own dog because they act in this appeasing way. Punishment does not work anyway. You need to set them up for success, train them, and stimulate their minds and bodies.

Neuroscience, biochemistry, behavioural observations - they all show that dogs' emotions are much like ours and they do love us just like we love them.

Really enjoyed that I've had dogs all my life(75yrs),so did know those facts, but good to have it reiterated. Only 2 of those dogs came as puppies, the others all rescue Spaniels, Labradors, various Terriers and 2 retired racing greyhounds that needed a good home All my dogs lived to a good age Because of my health I just have my sweet Kate now A beautiful black and white ex racer that had been abandoned at 5yrs old I've had her 8 yrs as she's approaching 14yrs I can identify with Karena and her clever dog I've had Haemophilia all my life and over past 2-3 years bleeding has increased, especially nose bleeds As this has happened without warning, Kate would suddenly become very intently staring at me Minutes later my nose would pour with blood Or, if I'm in bed, Kate laying beside me, she would suddenly start ' pawing' me Sure enough, my nose would start bleeding So I can now, more or less pre-empt them I've discussed this with my Haematologist and we wonder if she can smell the iron content in the blood? I hope, Karena, that you're doing well Regards and best wishes from a sunny Scotland (Stirling area)

I wonder what would happen if we where to create a breed of dog with problem solving being the best skill (via the selected breeding method)?

Guide dogs for the blind, and rescue dogs would be getting close to this. One of the hardest things - and rarest -abilities is the guide dogs that are able to "disobey" their human, when the human is walking into traffic. Mostly Labradors but some other breeds as well.
