Fortunately I’m not encountering any issues with my Overlocker at the moment but I’m hooked on your video clips as they are so informative and I feel I could tackle some of the issues that might arise rather than having to face the costs of repair. Thank you. And thank you for always responding to my queries, however basic they’ve been.

Thank you miss abi My needle plate fork (long one) I saw slope downward and is not straight. Whoo thank you for your insight now after straightening it it works perfect

Thanks for this. Haven't had the courage to take mine apart yet but....can only see 1 needle on the needle plate. There is nothing in my manual about the needle plate. It's a singer 14sh754. Can you help at all?

Thanks Abi. Hoping to fix my Singer 14SH754 which, as I said after your last video, I've been told is not repairable (by technician who admits to hating Singer and Brother). If worst case and have to buy similar price (i.e. up to £300) replacement, have you any suggestions? Is a free arm REALLY useful for cuffs? Same technician says they're useful on sewing machines but not overlockers (?!) and Janome models don't have them.

Hi, I have the singer overlocker. I really no idea what to do and there is no repair store where I live. The presser bar lifter just fell off, no matter how many times I re tread properly, the stitching is bad, it gets stuck, the fabric that gets cut goes inside the machine. I was wondering if you do course?

Does singer proginish have only one of those threading needles? I'm looking at my overlocker and seeing only one needle and no indentation for another one

My brother serger is chaining but as soon as I put the fabric under doesn't matter what type of fabric, it doesn't chaining on the fabric at all, it makes a chain before I add the fabric then it jus doesn't wen I do

Lost count of the times this has happened to me (first segment). I am a novice but watching your tutorials inspires me to not give up. On another note Abi, I am contemplating buying a cover stictch machine and wondered if you could recommend one? Many thanks.

Hi June . Thanks for the lovely feedback. I e used only a handful of coverstitch machines. Pfaff janome and Brother. Janome is best and easiest by far. The brother just feels cheap and the Pfaff I found fiddly

I've replaced my lower looper & the needle plate as I broke both :/ I'm still having some issues with the lower looper just barely clipping the left needle. It was hitting both, but I've since repositioned the looper up higher. The fabric doesn't seem to be gliding through the feed dogs like it did before. Seems herky jerky. Also, the lower looper thread keeps coming off of the very bottom yellow clip. I've been able to get it to chain on fabric, but then it breaks. Any suggestions?

What a palaver , poor you! In the instance when a machine is under warranty, you should always speak to the manufacturer for support. The looper should never break and it’s up to the company to replace or repair the machine, even after warranty. But as it gets to this point, it’s very fiddly and tweaks need making. The needle bar may need adjustment. Speak to the company and see if they can help. Without the machine here in front of me, I can’t diagnose the issue. I am sorry, but good luck!

You’re not doing anything wrong, it’s a rubbish machine. The needle plate bends (or breaks) really easily which means the thread gets caught there instead of feeding through. See my needle plate video. Good luck

2 sergers just stopped making stitches, Both needed timing adjustments, and after timing adjustment still no stitches, However, one will make a chain . but as soon as I put fabric on the machine no stitches in the fabric at all but a lovely chain to the side the whole way. The other serger now is running backwards! It kind of weirded me out because in my 45 years sewing I have never seen a Serger stitch backwards! i think I have Serger Gremlins attacking my machines. I am pretty annoyed and upset because I am ,making items for my sons wedding that is only about 7 weeks away!

Are you making sure you are putting the fabric far enough to the right so that the machine catches the fabric? Also their is a width button on the front. Have you tried to adjust this?

I figured out the issue by changing the needle, rethreading AND hand turning the wheel properly afterwards (towards myself). It eventually corrected itself, just needed a "reset".

Hey Marcella, if you can Pull it out, that’d be a good idea. You can’t really bend a needle back properly and it’ll get in the way. One needle will Still Work but it’s not perfect

Never try to bend a needle back straight, put a NEW NEEDLE in ! Also check for any "nicks" in the needle plate. If slight nicks you can use a small file to smooth out the rough spots so the needle does not "catch" on the jagged edges.

Hi I was hoping someone could help and give me some hints on how to fix this thread issue with the 14U454B overlocker. Everytime i try to start chaining the thread the lower no:2 thread keeps tangling in the silver plate making all the other threads tangle in the plate as well i've tried rethreading everything and it keeps happening. As i don't have funds to take it to a specialist i would like to see if i can fix it myself.

Hi. First unthread the machine and clean between the disks with a piece of cotton fabric to make sure nothing is in between the disks. Clean the feed dogs, clean the loopers etc. oil the Machine at certain points(video on this channel showing you) change needles, then rethread the machine, most sergers go 3,4,2,1 to be threaded 1 on far left 4 far right. See if this helps. Make sure thread is between the disks and not to either side. Make sure pressure foot is up when threading. Use good overlocker thread. See if these help

@@merlinthewizard2399 I've done all that and it doesn't help the thread still wraps it's self around the throat plate. I've taken the throat plate off and hand turned the wheel and the thread seems to chain it self alright then but i have no idea why with the plate on why it keeps tangling around the plate. :(

@@63Arnast have you looked to see if you have it in the rolled hem position? The threads are supposed to go over a little point on the face plate . Have you emailed Abi on her website she may be able to get more details

@@merlinthewizard2399 I haven't emailed her yet as i've ordered a new plate as this one was broken. I doubt that was the issue but better be safe and sure. Been trying to find a service manual for it but that is near impossible to get.

Abi I do have a question. Why does my needle in the A slot of my pro finish Serger keep coming out of the needle eye when serging ? It chains fine and begins to sew and then when chaining on fabric it works fine but then the thread comes out of the needle eye making my fabric feed slower and get birds nest with the threads
