I cannot thank you enough for your detailed explanations! I just got my first overlock sewing machine and was struggling for a while to understand why the tension dial was not fixing my clearly-lack-of-tension issue on one of my threads. Your tip at 3:30 about almost flossing the thread into the dial saved me! Thank you so so so much!

Omg! Thank you so much. I had tried everything I could think of to get my cover stitch tension right. I did what you said about flossing the thread down into the tension discs. One thread was in there correctly but the other wasn't. So I'd been getting huge loopies on the underside. Before re-threading I returned all my settings back to normal. Anyway, I've always had trouble threading my machine for cover stitch. I have no trouble doing overlock. I just don't do as much cover stitching. And all I wanted to do right now was hem a pair of pants. I'm going to make a note in my Instruction and Reference Guide. Thank you again.

Omg thank you. Just got my first serger and was in tension hell. Turns out the threads didn’t get into the discs.

Just a tip from an oldie. Turn all your dials to 0 before you begin to thread. It disengages the tension disks so no problem. Also, your threads will glide easily through the guides as you thread them. When you finish threading, then set your tension discs to the appropriate numbers. Happy serging!

I used to have a small industrial serger (wh is what they were selling back then) and it worked well w cheap thread, old thread, mismatched thread. Just another case of they don't make 'am like they used to!😁

I have a question, sometimes when sewing knits, I am unable to stretch them. Any ideas? Looper and stitching threads look good, but unsure why this might be happening. Thanks for the video!

You mentioned that Sergers have a standard setting? I have a 14U444B/454B Singer, Where do I find the factory settings for the tension, if you know, thanks.

What would be the reason the left needle thread does not grab? I have had my serger for a while and threaded it many times. I got it serviced and have had this issue since. Now I did get it working once, but then I changed the thread and it is happening again. My initial thought is I need to bring it back, but that was 6 months ago. I have not really used it because of this.

I have an older baby lock 5260 and forgot how to thread it. I seem to be having trouble with the blue threading. The last 2 parts that need to be threaded I do not understand or missing something. I have tried multi times and still not sure about the blue thread. Sometime I think I have it but when trying to sew it does not chain and the needle thread breaks. The blue colored part is underneath so it is hard to see. I just had it serviced also and he didn't show me how to thread it even though I did ask him. What can I do? Thanks

My right most tension discs release the thread every 6" of serging a rolled hem. It pops out of the discs sporadically. I have oiled the machine, changed the needle, use professional serging thread, cleaned the lint and rethreaded the machine to no avail. What is my next move?

My dad broke the thung that the thread goes thru on the top. It's plastic and the medal thing that goes down in is okay. It has a screw on it so it can be replaced. They used to be metal but where can I get another one. I was gonna crazy glue it back on but without that arrial looking t on top I can't use it and it's brand new. He didn't know to push it down n it's snapped right off

For me, it was threading it. I unscrewed the cover, so to clean it, I decided to cut the strings. I had learned to do it the 'easy' way, tying ends of new thread to the ones in the overlocker. I unscrewed every screw practically, and dusted the inside (you won't believe the amount of dust is in the machine that you don't see behind the body). Anyway, I the instructions are simple to retread. NOT. I must've redone the steps because the lower looper kept popping. Eventually, I did it---like 45 minutes later. 😕

HELP! My singer serger has bunched fabric (nylon velvet) up under needle and pulled it down into feed dogs. Totally jammed. Cannot remove presser foot as not enough room. Chain is all balled up too inside machine! Nightmare! Guess fabric was too thick. How do I pull the tangled mess out please without breaking the machine?😱😨
