I'm a hoarder and I'm using Jasmine's programmes to help. The house got so bad I fell over in a hoarded room and couldn't get up as I was caught under an enormous pile of things - it was like being in an avalanche. I've also had piles of things hit me in the head in the garage and I was amazed I wasn't knocked out. You get trapped in the idea that if you let things go you'll feel this dreadful sense of loss and no matter what you do you can't replace them. I have spent the last year decluttering and the worst moment was giving away a load of duvet covers that didn't fit the bed I had; I just felt utterly awful about it because my brain was going "but they're lovely designs! what if you buy a different bed and you've not got them? what were you thinking?" and I had to just sit with those feelings which went on for about 3 days. It's dreadful when you know logically it's not right, but your voice inside is going "you might need that!". My dad and mum, her sister and her mum were really bad hoarders, and now I'm trying to de-hoard all their stuff while not getting sentimental over it. The good news is the house is much clearer having lost about 60% of its contents, two sheds full of rubbish have gone, the garage is cleared and the loft which was full is cleared and the remaining things boxed up neatly and stacked properly. I'm even getting frustrated at not being able to declutter a bit faster!

I really like this format. Nobody is judgemental or is trying to make a over-dramatic or sensational show out of it, but just trying to help.

I so prefer this to the US hoarders programme. I think that this one is much more focussed on actually helping people, rather than getting annoyed with them for not psychologically being ready to change things for "drama". This is much gentler, much more helpful, and with much more positive outcomes

I love this host. She is so understanding and sympathetic while also being realistic and encouraging.

i think when the hoarding stems from loss and loneliness and the people are so mentally depressed and then Jasmine shows up so kind and understanding and helpful, its exactly what the people have been looking for. a nice person/friend to help and not judge.

It is obvious Jeff is very intelligent and articulate. He also has a very good sense of humor. But when they opened his refrigerator I almost vomited. But what excellent progress he has made! I hope he has happy days ahead. Jean just doesn’t have the right mindset yet despite all the help and support she received. I felt especially bad for Jasmine because she felt so defeated. She puts her heart and soul into helping these hoarders. God bless her for that.

It would be lovely to see an update on the people in this episode and if they have been able to continue getting help.

Jeff's a remarkable dude. I will remember the quote that people do use vacuum cleaners since they were invented. All the best wishes for this guy. Oh, and Jasmine, just ❤️ your incredible patience and sacrifice to help all these people where many others already would have failed.

What a compassionate approach taken with this programme and by all involved. (I've watched the American program "Hoarders" and they milk every moment to dramatize for tv, and I felt really sorry to see how cruel it can be to the hoarder who has a mental illness.)

I think Geoff is the only hoarder (and I watch _way_ too many hoarding programmes 😟) I’ve actually _liked_ , such a nice man. Jasmine and he had such a lovely rapport. Jasmine is the best person to deal with these people; if you haven’t watched it, find and watch her experiences with her mum. As someone with mental health issues, I have to admit that I don’t _understand_ hoarding; I wish I did as I think that makes me rather shallow, I don’t mean to be. Thanks for this upload 🥰

If she had no patience, the people would become stubborn and nothing would leave the house. These people need time. I was no hoarder, but I had much stuff. I donated many things, but not all at once. On a scale from 1 to 5 with 1 (daily needed) to 5 (never used) I first decluttered the stuff in the 5 category. It took me years to declutter stuff in the category 4 (is used 1-2 times a year). Now I even have decluttered stuff in category 2 (is used 1-2 times a week, but can be replaced by something I already have, like apple slicer that is replaced by a simple knife), but it takes a long time. You have adapt to your new normal. If somebody tried to force me to throw out stuff of category 2 at the beginning of my journey, I would not have decluttered anything, not even category 5.

I’ve watched many hoarder programmes in the US and almost always at the end when the houses are clean and liveable again the residents are so happy! It’s just getting past the point of denial.

Jeff is a wonderful guy. I would love to know him. Great sense of humor, too. 🙂

my mum has a different problem, she kept receipts. had bags n bags n bags of receipts lol finally talked her round to throwing them away.

He describes himself as "an inmate of the house" That says it all! Holy Jesus!

It’s amazing to me how there’s just a click in the minds of hoarders once the secret is out and logic is applied. They seem to miraculously just get it.

Jeff started to find a vocabulary to describe his condition, and got better. The other lady is more in the area of a systematic, psychiatric approach. Very well made documentary.

Jeff looks at two rat traps with rotted cheese in them and says "I do want to hold on to those".. I'm like wanting to scream "And why?..." I had a hoarder grandmother who died in a house full of trash - she had asthma and the trash and resulting mold was a contributing factor to her death. We tried many times to help her but she refused to let anybody help. The other statement "It is like losing part of me..." I wanted to say to him "Hopefully you aren't made of ancient cans of beans....".

When she says she needs to do it herself, that is not to be taken literally. She really does want someone to help, someone to bag up all the old clothes and remove them from sight, some boxes and containers, old ironing boards etc. Good clean things given to charity.

I’m sorry their in jeopardy of losing their home and they’re debating whether they keep a hold of garbage. Jeff didn’t even know he had that tv antenna. They can’t possibly know everything they have so get rid of it. Living in a clean home won’t kill them but them living in all that garbage can.

I think one way to make the hoarding go away by making them leave their house, told them to write about things the missed and discurd all the others. I think most of them wouldn't even notice something gone unless it's right infornt of them .

Does anyone know if Jean was able to get help?

He would be better off to have it cleared by the councel. The food hoard and the dead vermin would be gone and toilet and water repaired. He could have counseling afterwards. As he is quite old he might not have the energy to bring that much stuff in. The councel never takes everything out there would be enough for him to rummage around.

Did anyone consider to move these hoarders out of their places for a few weeks, clearing, cleaning, painting , rearranging their homes and than let them live without their staff for 3-4 months. Ask them than what exactly they are missing? Bring in only things they remember. I realize they might go back to hoarding, but at least it will take some time to get to the point of the begging of the process.

Stops you trying to do important things. Important things to you yes like having a clean fridge, not create mold and having the space to work on all your projects .....which you cant now, i accept their digs at professionals come from pain but my god do you have to have a strong character to deal with these people.

Why do we refuse help? Why do we have to do it ourselves? Because we're the ones who made it this way.

I'd like to see them accomplish more with these hoarders......it seems like a waste of time to me, and who are the landlords who should be giving out eviction notices if the problem isn't taken care of?????? It's very frustrating to see that nothing is cleared out or cleaned in the end......

If you chucked out an item a day would they really notice.

One thing I have noticed about all of these hoarders is that they're all very childish

Some people may mentally trigger their PTSD, anxiety, and OCD watching this. Only a special type of person or therapist (specialty OCD/PTSD) are patience and sensitive enough towards others in this area. I couldn't specialize in OCD/PTSD.

They need the american team to come in, as they can clean the mess, cure the ailment and mend the broken family in 2 days :)

I hate people wen they talk trash and mean things about anyone only mean people that has a mean attitude so they pretty much put their sad life out on others and it’s not right I mean come on you have to be happy in your life and that’s the only way of spreading happiness and love to anyone including strangers I mean come on everybody grow up this is 2022 it’s time for us to start being nice to each other even know there’s a war going on in Ukraine we need to be there for each other that’s what God wants us to do

I would just go in and grab their stuff. They don't know what they've got there, so why worry about what they think. They keep asking the hoarder if it's ok to take things, instead of just walking out with it when the hoarder says it can go. Why do they keep making excuses for hoarders and saying it's to do with their childhood etc. Jeff had a sister, so he wasn't lonely. It's not just hoarding precious things, but the filth that are in their houses that makes me itch.

people should realize that they are getting older and are just keeping stuff they are not using ....and they cant take care of it any longer and they cant take it to their graves...so why hoard? Geez!!

All this gal does is talk. Not one of these poor people got their home cleared to normal. Just talk about the disorder. No one actually helped in my opinion. She needs a new profession.
