When an above ground pool becomes out of level, it is very important to be sure that the pool is not too out of level. We will walk you through the perimeters of how out of level the pool can be.

We just installed a intex Xtr 5,5m pool and it’s 3,5inch out of level. We are planning on leveling the ground next year because they only give a couple of days more of warm weather here and then its going to get much colder here. I Cannes its leaning to the lower side, burning hope it will hold this year.

I just installed my 16x48 Coleman pool. I had to dig the high side down around 6inchs to level the ground. My question is the dip around the edge of the pool is it okay to fill it with sand or with that damage my pool. The dip goes about half way around both sides of the pool. What would be your professional opinion on how to take care of the dip. Im nerves it's going to fill with water when it rains.

Hi there, how do you feel about using styrofoam sheets on top of sand that was graded and leveled? We just put our 18 ft pool up this past weekend, and we had to dig out the side of a dip in the yard. Unfortunately, the backside of the pool seems to be sinking in extremely soft ground that we thought we removed and replaced when leveling, but the back of the yard is very wet in general. So the pool itself is off by about 3 1/2 inches. We realize we need to drain it, do you have any suggestions for fixing the very wet portion of where the pool will sit? Unfortunately this is the only spot for it, there is no room for it to move anywhere else in the small yard. Thank you.

Hi there. We are about to set up a bestway 4.12 x 2.01 x 1.2 rectangular pool on our concrete patio. We are putting down eva interlocking pads as a base. The last metre of the pool length ways dips down about 2.5cm/an inch, so by your calculations should be fine. We are thinking of doubling or tripling up on the interlocking pads at this bottom end though to level it as much as possible, or even placing tiles down and then the foam pads. So you think this will work? Any help would be greatly appreciated?

Thank you for this video - exactly what I've been looking for. I have read the questions and your answers, and still would like to ask for myself.. if uou are still answering these questions. We have a Bestway Power Steel rectangular pool 13'6” x 6'7” x 48” (4.12m x 2.01m x 1.22m; about 8100 litres or 2140 gal) assembled on stone paving and the other end on hardened sand since the stony area was too small. I just got the frames up when we started to have really heavy raining. We haven't filled the pool yet and must clean it up anyway first. At the moment the rain water shows about 7-8 cm (about 3-3.5 inches) difference in water level (long sides). Do you think this is a problem considering the pool size? We can't dig stone so bigger job ahead and that's why I am asking. I was wondering if we could just lift the U shaped legs on the stone paving an inch or so.. cosmetics is not the issue at the moment, just safety.
@abovegroundpros4 жыл бұрын
3 inches out is quite a bit. You could lift the legs up and put them on blocks if you chose to but you would have to get some dirt underneath the liner of the pool or else you would overstress the liner and potentially cause a rep.

I had to build a retaining wall around the perimeter of an 18' x 48" pool on the low end of my yard. The highest point is 3" high. I compacted the sand as fill in by wetting it and using a lawn roller. The wall is lined with landscape fabric to combat erosion and the 1st row is beneath the ground. Am I safe putting 6,500 gallons of water on this structure?

I have a 12x18 above ground pool. It was installed professionally 3 years ago. One side...the long side is higher by about just shy of 2 inches...not more. Side to side is good...I looked at the pattern on the liner and went by that, but is it possible the liner has shifted. I also tried going by the lip of the edge down to the water on both ends as well. Bottom line, is it safe?
@abovegroundpros8 жыл бұрын
Looking at the pattern isn't the best way to do it. Measure the water line to the top of the pool and that will give you the difference. 2 inches isn;t that bad though.

Hi, I have a bestway 404x201x100 cm on our patio. I checked the water level and it's about 1-1,5 cm off, which should be ok, but I noticed the frame creaking. Apparently at that side my patio isn't level (a bit of a prolapse, if that's the correct word?), which is putting pressure on the frame. On the top frame you can also see its off level. I can also see that the liner has more pressure there. Is it safe to keep this pool up or do I need to drain it? I'm quit anxious about this, so I hope to hear from you
@abovegroundpros4 жыл бұрын
If it's only within 1 and 1/2 cm of level you should be well within structural integrity. That seems odd that you're noticing so much stress when it's only slightly out of level.

I was hoping that by putting 4-6 inches of back fill around the outside of the pool, that it would stop the sand from being washed out from underneath. Would this work?
@abovegroundpros10 жыл бұрын
If this be the case, then you would want to use dirt to backfill. I would use this dirt to go under the pool instead of the sand. Bottom line is if you use sand the you run a risk of having a problem, if you use dirt, you do not.

I had professional installers install an 18' round pool in a location where we had the same size pool 3 years ago. They shovel-leveled the pool and we did not hire a Bobcat to level. Rather than level from the lowest spot, they raised the low end approximately 4" with additional dirt and sand a horizontal distance of approximately 10' or two uprights. The manufacturer's instructions say that you should level from the low spot and not use loose dirt to raise the pool and did not specify an amount that it could be raised (e.g. "you can raise it 9" along 1/3 of the pool's diameter" etc.), however the installers insisted that they have done this many times and "it works fine". I filled the pool and measured for level. It is three-quarters of an inch low at that spot when measured at 3 separate locations from the rail to the water at that location compared to 3 measurements at the opposite side of the circle. Is 3/4" off-level and some loose dirt enough reason to have them take the pool down and start all over again, or is this a very small amount to raise a pool and a very small amount out of level? Thanks for any information.

So we immediately drained it and spent two days digging the high end down and building the low end up. I used the 4ft level on a 2x4 method but instead of going one foot past the outer perimeter I went 2ft. It’s about 3/4 f an inch difference between the highest and lowest depth. I don’t think that’s too bad considering I’ve never done this before. I’m sorry but it seems to me the 4 ft level on top of a 2x4 works pretty darn good! J/s

@abovegroundpros11 жыл бұрын
If you are saying that the pool is within one inch of level then you will be fine. The pool may look a little off, but structurally the pool will be fine.
@chrisklingler52544 жыл бұрын
I just had my pool installed I have 4 inches of water on the high side then 3/4 of the pool is 7 to 8 inches of water. Should i fill more and wait to see if it evens out structural ly the walls seem even . A line level on top of the walls reveals an 8th of an inch past the line level in the middle. If that makes sense . It's a 24 foot round . Should i put 12 inches or more of water to get a better measurement. Right now it seems 3 inches off but in a couple spots with a tape measure its 4 inches off its Deceiving . More water or drain down and lift that low side up with like a 4x8 by 2 inch blocks under the legs I spent 5000 grand on the pool

I would recommend measuring from the waterline to the top of the pool all the way around and make sure it's the same measurement. If it is then your pool is level. If it's not then the difference in your measurements is what you're going to want to fix.

That really depends on the severity of the situation. If it's one or two then the pool could be drained down and the low side lifted up and blocks be placed under the vertical posts but if it's more than that I would recommend taking the pool down and releveling in the sight and starting with a fresh pad.

With the pool full I think is it a horrible idea. You could easily stress the liner and cause big problem or bend the post. As far as you have to fix it I would suggest draining and fixing.

Hello I am in the process of building the pad for a 24×54 I've already got the top removed and not knowing I added dirt instead of removing the high spots on one side. I know it's not recommended,but at this point do u see a problem with me building a 2×8 wall on that side with re bar drilled through the boards and drive into the ground. I've built the wall 4 foot from where the pool is and packed it with tractor. 8" of dirt not a big area just curious. Start over or nah?

I have the track and blocks level. How far above the track can the sand in the inside of the ring be. Right where the center of the pool is going to be is an area that cannot be taken deeper (it currently sits about an inch and a half above the ring, so if the sand needs to come down would it be okay to leave the center high and then slope to outside.
@abovegroundpros10 жыл бұрын
The sand needs to be 4-6 inches above the track. This will give it a good cove and fix the issue with the floor being high. I have an intex pool and I put it up and notice it was off by 2 in so I took it down & now I have the ground level but after removing the grass and digging it get it level the whole is down a couple of inches I know I need some sand to go over my ground before putting the pool up but how many inches can I go? Can my pool by a little under ground and if so what do I do so it doesn't just flood around the pool when. It rains? I have the 22ft pool but the whole is 24ft just to give us some space..
@abovegroundpros10 жыл бұрын
An inch of sand is fine. You are just using sand to shape a nice floor. If the pool is going to be in the ground a little, I would fill the hole in with dirt after the pool is full.
@jackieL122810 жыл бұрын
abovegroundpros what kind of dirt? The dirt I pulled up was filled with rocks. Will the pool be okay surrounded with dirt? Not so much the linner but the legs. Because in some areas the pool will be under by like 4 to 6 inches since my back yard was all out of level.
@abovegroundpros10 жыл бұрын
Whatever dirt you have is OK. I this situation you really don't have a big choice or else you will end up with a moat around the pool when is rains, unless you can come up with a way to allow the water to escape the trench if it rains. The liner will be fine, but the dirt may speed the rust process up a little on the legs of the pool, but sometimes you have to do what you have to do.
@jackieL122810 жыл бұрын
abovegroundpros could I use sand to bring it back up leveled? Or am I better off just putting the dirt around the pool?

Last summer we moved to a house with an above ground 12'x18' pool. The pool was installed into the side of a hill and the owners had dug down into the hill and filled under it with sand. The thing essentially was sliding down the hill....it was pulling the liner down on the other side. A few weeks ago we took the pool down, tossed out the old liner and dug out the sand and further up the hill. We brought in a few yards of screening for underneath and pounded it down before using a laser level to get it as accurate as possible. I'm a perfectionist, so we took many measurements, Fast forward to this weekend...we put it back up, put the liner in and filled her up. Well, the darn thing is uneven by 1" to 1.5". Either than it being visually off, is there going to be any danger of us swamping our neighbours should the pool collapse?
@abovegroundpros7 жыл бұрын
No not at that level. The pool can hold up fine within 2" of level.
