The moment Pete mentioned the rubber band I had to scroll back, and yes a rubber band does make a rapid and majestic presence for about 0.5secs, but that 0.5secs was bloomin brilliant

@@nicktankard1244 yeah I live in the US and it’s standard - I’m not even sure they would let you stay awake for the procedure if you asked. The only issue is that the anesthesia is more expensive than the actual endoscopy - I’m thinking maybe that’s why countries with public healthcare don’t do it
@nicktankard1244
@nicktankard1244 4 ай бұрын
@@subtropical1228 yeah it’s the same for some other procedures. Like removing wisdom teeth. In Europe they just don’t do general anesthesia unless it’s a serious operation. The endoscopy wasn’t too bad to be honest. Definitely bearable and I wouldn’t want to go under for it. It’s a bit scary

Here they can do it with twilight sedation, not fully knocking the person out for the procedure when done orally. They always aim for sedating enough to keep the person comfortable, and if you need you can ask ahead of time to be scheduled for a full sedation instead. They always full sedate children to avoid trauma.

Calpis and booze is a great combo! Pre-pandemic, we'd go to a Korean BBQ place that always had a 1 hour+ wait, but they had a small bar/lounge upstairs. They weren't licensed to sell hard alcohol but for some reason serving Calpico mixed with sake was totally fine. They were really good, and we'd get completely hammered by the time our table was ready.

I work in healthcare and I don’t think Google reviews should be allowed. Staff cannot even answer reviews as it would negate a patient’s privacy. A lot of times I have seen unfair reviews because the person is in a state of grief for the loss after a significant medical event that has changed their life, like a stroke, massive brain surgery or a spinal cord injury.

fully agree, when i was in a pharmacy in japan and asked for something i can get back home without prescription they told me "no, we can't". It would have been a very easy step to just leave a bad review for it, even if they personally are not at fault. Instead i got something slightly less potent/useful for quite lot of money and left a positive review as the lady was vey friendly and tired her best. Unless a doctor really messed up i don't see a point in leaving a negative review and in that case you would probably sue anyway.

I feel your pain on the endoscopy, Chris. I went for one in the UK, I had opted for sedation, but when the nurse came to adminster it, she couldn't find my vein, and started shaking her head and tutting, which really made me feel at ease. She tried to put a needle in and botched it, pulled out again, cue more tutting, like it was my fault! So then I just decided I'd do it without, after having such a shit time with the nurse the actual procedure suddenly didn't seem so bad, although it was not pleasant, and gave me stomach ache for about 3 months after.

When I was 21 years old and stupid, I went to the “temple” of what I would consider a cult. They “recruited” me and brought me to the middle of nowhere in Toyama. It was a very weird experience and they were really pushy about me coming back and joining them officially. I told them I’m Christian, blocked them everywhere and went on with my life. Never heard from them ever since.

Yes, the healthcare system itself in Japan is nice, but the doctors? It's a complete coin toss. Sometimes you do get a great doctor that actually knows what they're talking about... but more often than not you get someone who is at best useless or at worst malicious. And this is my experience as someone who can speak the language, I can only imagine what a nightmare it is shopping around for doctors as a foreigner with a tenuous grasp of the language. General advice is to avoid the smaller clinics and go straight to a big hospital, but even then that's not a 100% guarantee.

I've had two rather strange encounters on my last trip to Japan. One in Akita where a nice japanese lady who spoke english surprisingly well and asked me if I was religious. After telling her "no, I'm very much atheist", she kept going on about the fact that she wasn't with a church per say and that she wanted to invite me to some kind of meeting... I politely refused and she didn't insist. My second encounter was a bit weirder. I met some americans who were very, very religious and who asked me questions about Jesus Christ. They were kind of nice so I didn't push them away too hard and that's when things got weird. One of them asked me if he could pray for me. I told him to go on thinking he would pray for me on his own at a later time. Boy was I wrong... He put his hand on my shoulder and started a 2mn monologue about God, Jesus, my soul, etc. Longest two mn of my life... Then he asked if I felt something, to which I answered no and thanked him anyway... (although I did feel his unnecessary touching of my shoulder for 2mn...). Fun story in hindsight...

The tube used in the endoscopy you got was as big as it was because if you have an ulcer, it can administer clips to stop bleeding. It can also perform tests for bacteria like h pylori. Otherwise your endoscopy sounded pretty standard, you just needed sedation.

Properly speaking, Any relationships that's not a regular one is 'parasocial'. The connections you make with fictional characters in good tv programs, books, or games? parasocial relationships, just as an example. The problem isn't the parasocial relationships, it's when people lose track of the difference between that and an Actual relationship (of whatever sort). The problem with live streams with live chat is that most of the cues that indicate, subconsciously, that one is dealing with a parasocial relationship rather than a regular one are Substantailly less obvious than in other mediums. (and various famous people already had problems with unstable individuals missing the difference even without that issue.)

Imagine going to the doctor in Japan as a woman...quite scarey. Many doctors don't listen to their patients when they are describing their ailments and will quickly diagnose/ prescribe medication that may be harmful just to dismiss the patient, hence why they'll get bad reviews. Imagine going to a OBGYN and have 4 or more ppl behind a curtain staring at your cooch.

Just half hearing the episode, gotta be honest.... xD But yeah, Calpis doesnt really have all that much milk. It does have a bit of powdered milk, but I think most people who are lactose intolerant can take a bit of lactose without getting super ill. It varies from person to person, but most lactose intolerant people still can break down some of it, just not if the system gets flooded with lactose. Still, its surprising how Japan still doesnt have a whole lot of lactose free milk in kombinis and markets, or products with dairy thats lactose free or reduced. This along with having a hard time finding vegan, vegetarian, halal and other types of dietary restricted foods is a bit puzzling to me. Japan that is so prone to introducing new products all the time, and that statistically has so many adults who cannot take many milk based products. I think even more importantly, the Asian genome is also prone to develop osteoporosis in old age, and milk is a pretty huge calcium source. I´m from a developing nation, and we have all of those on supermarkets. Gluten free stuff, vegan, halal, milk of all types including lactose free milk, these days I´m even finding lactose free butter, cheese, cakes, all sorts of stuff. Here´s something to note for those who don´t super understand this subject - the only difference between regular and lactose free stuff, for the absolute vast majority of products, is that they just add a synthetic version of what the bodies of lactose intolerant people don´t produce anymore - which is lactase. It´s far cheaper at industrial scale to add lactase rather than trying to extract lactose from milk. It´s the enzyme that the body should produce to break down the lactose sugar that is in milk, into regular sugars such as galactose and glucose. Children mostly can produce lactase, but the body loses the ability overtime for lactose intolerant people. And when the body can´t break down lactose, it´s kinda treated as a foreign substance, which is why you get the runs and gases. That´s also what you buy from brands like Lactaid and whatnot - the enzimes to break lactose down. Which you can buy in any drugstore here where I live from multiple brands... last time I was in Japan I couldnt find it anywhere. :P

I got a bad earache in Kyoto - I found a clinic for ENT and went in - they immediately made it obvious that they wanted nothing to do with me, but gave me a long form (in english) and told me that the initial consultation would be 20,000 yen (about $180 at the time), before any treatment. I walked out. The next day I went to Kinosaki and the owners of the ryokan I was staying in kindly took me to a local clinic. The Dr was superb, gave me a full examination with a micro camera and diagnosed a bad infection, prescribed me some pain killers and antibiotics - total cost 3,600 yen for the consultation, 3,000 yen for the drugs!

regarding Calpis: please don't speculate about matters easily rectified by asking an expert. i am not a nutritionist, or a biologist, so I'll refrain from regurgitating what I just read on Wikipedia. If you don't know, just at least do your own Giggle and quote the source - it covers your bases, and *probably* provides added value, without detracting from the media. It may seem hacky to do for people what they *could* do themselves; but let's be honest. They are ever more likely to NOT to that extra work themselves - so at least give them references so they get a hint as to where to find said information for themselves. Seriously, I think we're all doomed, at this point; but let's all struggle on. 頑張りましょうね

The doctors will win their lawsuit against Google. There is no freedom of speech in Japan - if you say anything negative, publicly, about any business or professional, and what you say negatively impacts their business (or actually, if it just makes them upset), it is a crime. Google is hosting what constitutes 'defamation' in Japan, and will be required to remove all negative reviews from these doctors' locations, and likely have to pay restitution. Japan isn't a Western nation, and does not have our regard for speech. You are entitled to your opinion, and you are entitled to speak your opinion to the person directly, but you absolutely have no right to speak that opinion publicly, even if it is 100% factually true, and you have proof to back it up. Negative statements alone constitute defamation.
@noxnox7445
@noxnox7445 4 ай бұрын
When I say there is no freedom of speech, I mean countries like China, where if you say anything, you will be arrested. In Japan, there is freedom of speech, but with that freedom comes responsibility. Even if it is 100% true, if it violates human rights or honor, it is also just slander. It's just ignorance to think that freedom means you are allowed to do whatever you want. You need to understand that you could have said something that would not infringe on those things.

I was approached by a guy in Osaka and was invited to join Happy Science a Japanese cult. I uno reverse carded him and invited him to an amway meeting. To which he replied bye bye 😞. Who’s gonna buy my laundry detergent now?

Is there any other way to do endoscopy? I've done it once back in my homecountry 6 years ago. It was a big tube down my throat and I was gagging for like 15 min. Maybe that's the old way of doing it and we have something better now.

In the US they put you under anesthesia, partly for your comfort and partly to make it easier to do the procedure (since the doctor doesn’t have to deal with a gagging patient).

@@jpleva9987 I know but my question was about the equipment itself. In Europe they usually don’t put you under for almost anything unless it’s a serious operation

@@nicktankard1244The equipment is probably very similar, if not identical - in fact, one of the two endoscope brands I’ve seen used here is Karl Storz (the other is Olympus).
