For me, its a tie between the Fiberlight and the Fatrope stick. I have them both in my fire kit and they work great!! Those quick fires look a lot like the zip fire blocks i have. Wonder if they're just smaller versions

I gotta try the Wax Wood Sticks! I think that will be a winner for me. My DIY firestarters are Petroleum Jelly and cotton Makeup Rounds I put in old Skoal containers. I melt the PJ and dip the rounds half way. They give me 7-12 minutes of good flame.

Cotton facial cleaning pads dipped in wax. Flat for packing, waterproof and when fluffed open and lit, will burn 7 to 12 minutes.

The best fire starter when you have to get something going and you don't have time to play around is a road flare. Pull it out, strike it and put it under your wood pile. It burns for about 10 to 15 min and you will have a rip roaring fire by the time it goes out.

Definitely a good choice in absolute life or death. But.... I can carry a full 30 day kits for less than half that flares size. If I am physically able. ID rather save that flare to signal and flag down help.

Regardless of what other's are saying. This was a great video. I think we all know how to make use of what's available to us in our surrounding's. It's nice to know what's out there. It's also nice to see what's out there to have on hand when your in a hurry. If you have never been in a situation where there is no tinder because of weather or there simply are no resources available, I would say you lack experience or just haven't been out enough. These are valuable and worth taking a look at. Awesome video, thanks for sharing.

9 wonderful products, I've been using cotton balls with candle wax dried on them, I also have some in my kit with patrolium jally on them, both work well. The fat rope looks like a great starter 90 fires and the strip cutup 324 fires from one role that's gotta be a great value for money deal. Another great video Chris, well done

As someones whos been camping/playing with fire starters as long as i can remember, I cant believe how few of these ive seen, and yet how relatively comprehensive this video was. Though I think gels shouldve been mentioned, thanks for a video that doesnt feel like it was sponsored to death 👌

Come on man. Too much hype. For 3 bucks you can buy a candle in the glass and a pack of 160 cotton make-up pads. Dip those in the wax and lay em out to harden. In 10 minutes you got a huge stack of 8minute fire pads! Enough to last you all winter! Cheap easy no mess works in the rain is bad ass tinder!

So True! Have you see the Pull Start Fire? Basically it's about the size of a pack of cigarettes, you lay it into a pile of wood, than grab the rip cord and pull, then it just erupts into a very hot and long burning flame to start even waterlogged wood. They seem kind of like a gimmick and they're kind of expensive at 3 for $18 bucks! What do you know about them?

Those are nice to start a fire with, but in the Mid-West, and East Coast we don't need that stuff if the camper knows how to start a fire in most cases. I believe that if I was anywhere in this country I could find what I need to start a fire in nature along with the fire steel and knife I have.

Great vid. You can baton with a folding knife. Just unlock the blade and lay the blade on the “log” and the knife handle down the side at a right angle.

Generic brand cotton ball soaked with generic petroleum jelly. I've made successful campfires in deep wet snow in the sierra mountains with 'em. Even when every possible natural source of tinder is wet or damp in 20F + windy conditions.

I found something at Wal Mart that is good and pretty cheap. Called Insta fire. 1$ a bag lights 4 fires. And can be stretched out for more depending on how much you use. Worked on wet wood for me a couple weeks ago. Haven't tried it under water yet.

I like pine sap. That i scrape off of pines as I walk and pit in a ziplock bag.....it is free and it works beautifully.

Tip: Make a base, then stack wood on it going parallel to the direction of the base. Keep doing that changing the way it faces. Make a nest like thing up top and put fire tinder in it and kindling then start the fire. It will burn from top to bottom and last longer than bottom to top.

Make a cabin and light it in reverse basically? Normally would use a similar thing to light damp wood but light at the bottom and burn up to dry the damp first

I like fatwood but it's sometimes difficult to find. pine resin is much easier to find. lint from the clothes dryer usually works pretty well and is free, unless you have dried wool or flame retardant treated fabrics like nomex.

Can you use a ferro rod to start the quick fires? If so how does it work

You can carefully shave the rod down and make a small pile of the metal to act as a small flash tinder but generally you always need some kind of tinter, the Sparks alone won't start a fire you need a fibrous material to catch the spark

I'm diy I use pitch wood using a hand plane to make shavings i keep half in one bag and using an old coffee grinder grind up the other half. I store it all in a seal a meal bag in my kit.

Love the fake fatwood though there is fatwood where I live I got some anyway for fun works great I really wanna try that Blue fire putty one day. I have larger bricks of quick fire also works great but I’d rather have a stick of wax wood.
