Haha, the codex thing reminds me of being in the Warhammer store once: "Oh can I look at the codex?" "Sure" "ah this one has the plastic on it" "yes." "ok....."

“But I also know people in those sectors who are…quite nefarious in their sector” you can watch literal hours of content on KZfaq about drama involving furries who turned out to be absolutely reprehensible. The majority of these are individuals that not even _the furries themselves_ want to deal with.

There was this one manager we all loved, he had this method that worked like 90% - 95% of the time. He would put the item he was talking about in your hand and it would trick your brain to buy it! Something about it being in your hand, psychology blah blah. He was cool one of the best he was lenient on rules to a degree i.e. store copies of codeices to look at among other things (he let me use some store paints to help me paint my first model) The store was always packed even on weekdays especially after school and his numbers were always something to be praised After he was let go for reasons I won't go into they put a temp manager that was awful, she was never interested in the hobby, was either using her phone or on the PC (granted the PC was likely to do work but I digress) and would often bring her kid who at the time was like 4. The kid was annoying, either crying the entire time or he'd shuffle product making it difficult to find anything. But the absolute worst thing this kid would do is go to tables that players left to grab a bite and take their models and play with them on a center display table. Luckily no one straight up yelled at the kid but we all would regularly complain to the mother who would just tell him to stop and that's it. The store recovered a bit when the new permanent manager took over and I wad cool with him but he rubbed me the wrong way when I he told me "if warhammer is too expensive then you need a new hobby" I told him why that's just wrong thinking, left and never came back. I've been there maybe twice in 5 years new manager but the store is almost always empty now.

I had a simular experience. I used to play in the Tottenham Court Road store back in 7th edition. Massive community, vet night ect. I went up there last month and no games are played. I asked if they knew where games are played locally and none working there knew. Games workshop is not the same anymore

Ah, Tottenham Court Road... I was on vacation in London back in '05 (I think) and decided to pop in and get a box of Temple Guards for my friend's Lizardmen army as a souvenir. The clerk or whomever was at the till didn't want to sell them to me and tried to convince me to swap to playing Eldar in 40k instead. Insert me, a socially awkward 15 year old, trying to explain to him in my third language that no one I know plays 40k and that they are a gift to a friend and getting bullied by an employee for playing the wrong game and the wrong army. Avoided that store like the plague on my subsequent visits to London. Even to this day.

@@Svana931 exactly. The game is supposed to be fun and we all play what we think is cool regardless of what other people think of it. I'm a big MtG player and I'm never playing the meta because I find the meta boring, I like thematic decks that express me as a person. Ok I might lose often but people are always commenting on how interesting my decks are because they do things people haven't seen before. In this case "you be you" is really important and no one will ever convince me otherwise.

@@incredibleflameboy I just find min-maxing boring as well. Usually. Sometimes it can be fun to see just how far you can push things, but I just grow bored with it real fast. I would rather just have fun or try new things. Even if I lose most of the time. Doing thematic setups can be great fun. Hence why I love making terrain with my friends that suits the armies we are playing. Are the tables fair or balanced? Usually not. But are they fun to play? Oh absolutely! I just love running my Krieg forces through no man's land towards enemy trenches and watch them get mowed down and giggle while I keep on rolling 1's on everything.

Vampire the masquerade is a great game done right. But it does bring in some pretty seriously deviant "characters" As a stoyteller, that is something i will not allow in my games with no exceptions. Boundries and veils are stated before each game and are strictly followed, and i have no qualms about kicking people to the curb if they act up. Its within the storyteller / DMs purview to control events like this and to stop them from occuring so everyone can have a safe gaming environment and enjoy a good story. I havent quite finished the story yet but i hope that the storyteller had put his foot down eventually.

The table top story. As a mildly seasoned GM, I would have booted this guy after talking to him once or twice. Especially if the rest of the group started getting uneasy. This is exactly the reason why I hold a small “post game council” just to make sure everything is fine. Good on the DM here for trying to rectify the situation. But if he did anything like that. I’m not sure how I would handle it in the moment

I think the problem with furry is definitely one of oversharing. It's fine for a community to be sex-positive but that's in YOUR space with people that are also into that, and NEVER minors. NEVER. Now when you're talking to someone who isn't into it you don't need to mention how X anthro character is hot, you don't need to have some artwork of Krystal the Fox with her tits out as your phone unlock screen, and you don't need to be so excitable all the time with the animal noises and stuff. I've been sat around a table of nerds who all like a variety of things and it's ALWAYS the furry that's so performative, tmi and just... doing the whole LOLRANDOM thing. You're in a nerd fandom and find the generic artwork of furry characters that people draw hot. We get it. Just read the room and chill the fuck out. I've met several furries and they're just not... Someone you can relax with and have a drink with and casually interact with, their obsession always bleeds through. It's quite sad really.

Either most DMs are such pushovers if these types of stories are taken at face value… Nothing against you but these stories where it’s one person saying another person was that guy, always have matching themes every single time. They are like creepy pastas. It’s always a person who is outwardly degenerate, doesnt wear deodorant, is a furry, claims they’re an incel, rapey stalker vibes etc. and while I definitely know for a fact these people exist, there’s far more stories than seems plausible. It’s damaging to any game that these stories are over saturated and exaggerating. Seriously according to these stories everyone will encounter a “that guy” and they are just allowed to do these egregious social taboos and bad behavior, yet time and time again these stories they just let this behavior go til a screaming match months down the road? Bullshit, I guarantee you half these stories or more are somebody just giving their side of things and it’s likely them and the person in the story were problems for the group cuz it makes more sense that a DM wouldn’t want to kick two people, but the fact all these stories are somehow one person is a problem and is allowed to play and stay with the group until something extreme happens. It always comes off as unbelievable to me. I’m a DM for D&D and I’ve never dealt with someone half this bad, and if you act any way like that and make no changes within a game session you’re out of my game. Therefore these stories are unbelievable to me, and if true the DM is to blame for not removing the problem and allowing them to ruin the game. Worst of all This is damaging to potential new players who will be inclined to avoid the community because these countless negative, sorry to sound so disregarding, but fan fiction.

They might on first glance not be as overtly depraved as the other two groups but quite similar to left wing extremists, they are by far the most dangerous of the bunch because their antics have become more socially accepted during the last couple decades. Making an off handed reference to your favorite waifu smut at my table will always mean the first strike, if you show any further signs of deviancy you'll be kicked from the group, no further questions.
