North, I'm a Retired Marine Corps 4x Combat Vet, got linked up with some Royal Marine in OEF/OIF in iraq 2003, we had some crazy times, anyway 1st story made me upset, after my last tour, that was in 2009, after getting home thing were off, turned out i had actual brain damage after a mortor land way too close, light out for me, but I came to and got back into it, I never got checked out, like a lot of us, but I was lucky to have a "Doc" that saw I was "off" and recommended I get a CT scan, Thank God for that Navy Doc!!! turned out I had scars and swelling on my brain from multiple head trauma and concussions. Unfortunately, damage was done 2.5yrs or rehab learning to walk and talk right again,I loss memories from growing up to the birth of my kids. My wife of 17yrs is my caregiver now and she is amazing. Only one of my friends actually stayed in my life, he introduced me to warhammer and it's an amazing outlet on so many levels, don't really have a point. I just want to share my thoughts. I have Poland syndrome (look it up) and also a crooked back. And yet I had to attend mandatory military service in my country. Only one doctor that consulted me (we always had check ups when we changed bases) realized how unfit for military service my condition was. And yet he was silenced by his superiors. At the same base I had a colleague that had worse conditions, like spasmophilia and ischemic cardiomyopathy, and yet he was deemed apt for military service. The higher ups at that base had us both moved (because they didn't want to deal with us) to different bases, and I finally reached out to my dad, who had a lot of connections in the best military hospital in the country. The doctors at the hospital gave me two choices: either be discharged on medical reasons (which back then would've affected my chances of getting hired in a lot of fields) or finish my service but with lighter duties. It didn't matter at all that I shouldn't have been incorporated in the first place. I chose to finish my service, as I only had 4 more months. I finished the service with several specializations, including combat engineer, airborne trooper, APC gunner, logistics and air defense specialist. But I realized that we the average Joes were expendable, and it didn't matter how unfit we were. If we were able to hold an AR or throw a frag, we'd do just fine as cannon fodder.

I had similar situation with my gf. She hated my hobby so much that she crushed two of my models (I fixed them later) . I said to her that if she does this again I'll rip her precious clothes to shreds and throw them out of the window also her precious cosmetics will be flushed down the toilet. When I cooled down I asked why? She said that she was jealous of all the time and passion I put into my hobby and she doesn't feel like she is the number one to me. I have explained to her that my hobby is very important to me and keeps me afloat (I was in rather difficult situation at the time). Luckily we came to an agreement and now she is my fiance. Ps Sorry for my English. It's not my first language.

I've been in the hobby since 2000. I just started a "hobby break" when I Met my wife, and started back up again in the summer of 2006. My wife was cool, but she had an issue. She was home-schooled, didn't have any close friends living close anymore, and had no interest in having a hobby of her own. Her "hobby" was me. If I wasn't actively entertaining her she thought I was abusively ignoring her. I was on and off for a couple years, and virtually stopped playing in early 6th edition because the "local" game store is 90 miles away (which my wife wouldn't let me drive to to play a game) and the 3 local guys that played, including my best friend, no longer felt welcomed in my home. From the start of 8th edition to today, I have played less than 10 games. The last game I played was Sept. 17, 2019 (yes, I know the date). She got so mad at me for "ignoring her for toys" she threatened on multiple occasions to destroy my Titan collection. Between Armorcast and Forgeworld I have upwards of 30 40k scale titans/knights.

She would be equally unhappy whether it was warhammer, football or knitting. Get a girlfriend who will spend months looking for a model you want so she can give it to you, despite having no interest in the hobby. It's completely possible, I know because I have done it. Don't waste time on women who want to take away things that are important to you, because believe me, it won't stop with your models.

This. If they can’t respect you and your interests then they aren’t worth your time. It doesn’t mean they have to participate in the hobby (whatever it is), they just have to respect that it is important to you, just as you respect what is important to them.

I had a similar thing was dating someone who as an "Artist" saw me painting the models as a "waste of time being mass-produced plastic trash". She also refused to meet my friends in the hobby, becuase she was a couple years older than me and they ranged from my age to a few years younger. Not entirely suprisingly after a five year relationship, she met someone else. Hilariously then she got really mad when i didnt want to be her friend anymore..... 😂😂 Great show north, when i stop being slack i'll try sending you some pic's of the models i have made over the last few years👍

If a big problem for her seems to stem from something small or insignificant its not the real problem. Confront this, affirm her emotions and animosity and then find the real problem. It maybe something tangential, like insecurity from you having a potential group to confide in. Or maybe she needs to start a tyranid army? 😉

You must set boundaries for your free time and activities. Tell her if she can behave herself she is welcome to participate. But if you let them keep demanding more and more why would they stop until you stop them? Most people don't have that kind of self-control. If you find someone who does then definitely wife her up, but I doubt there are enough of them to go around. So the rest of us have to man up and set firm boundaries.

Good women's advice. Mine goes to spas. I pay for it and as soon as she is off with her best friend I party with games and being alone. I go fishing all night with a mate and she has never said “I need more time with you”. She is welcome and invited to fish, and I am invited to the spa every time. Sometimes I go she comes fishing (dressed in 10 layers of warm clothes with my floatation suit on top. The suit is made for a 6’3” man like me and she looks like a cute Ewok. Makes me laugh and her too). Healthy relationship Mr North. I appreciate this channel and you and your hard work. Women are replaceable. Mental health is more important. Let women sort themselves out, if they are neurotic and need your company all the time (normally Daddy issues in my experience, sorry women, my experienc) get out of that relationship.💯❤️

Epic rant and spot on too. Having been on this planet for half a century I can say with full honesty, North is spitting bars right here. This is one of the most important messages for young men to know. This shit can fuck a man up, doesn't matter what the hobby or interest is, it's part of you, it's not about that, it's about one person attempting to control another. She has a picture of who you are in her head and it is not matching up with the reality. She's trying to bring the reality picture into focus with the picture in her head. That is arse backwards.

Would it be possible to add time stamps to the video description to mark each story? Sometimes it's hard to keep track of who's story is who's, particularly when you move back and forth between the nightmare and anecdotes. It'd be really helpful for making sure i keep the stories straight and for when I want to get someone thats not a normal listener to hear a specific story I think they would like

Relating to the girlfriend story, when I started dating my now wife, I told her straight up that I do Warhammer as a hobby, she said that was cool, but not her cup of tea, fast forward 3 years, we're happily married and she has 2 40k armies and 2 AOS armies, and has gotten to be very good at stomping my skitarri 😅. I agree w/North, she doesn't have to like the hobby, but she should want you to have your space.

I’m an active duty U.S. marine 26 years, Covid was bs the shot was bs, it was get it or get out. But the old dude sounds like an ass that didn’t do anything probably a POG(person other than grunt). 40K has helped me stay out of trouble for 20 years, about 06 after my third tour I only ride motor cycles and got hammered. Standing tall for the third time and possibly seeing the end, I changed whst I did in my spare time. Thank William Kings Ragnar Blackmane book I picked up on deployment. No trouble since I picked up Battle for Macragge!

I don't get a chance to play miniature games much, but the way I relax is painting miniatures and luckily I have a understanding wife that supports my hobby. Always pay attention to who your woman's friends are. Like you mentioned, I too had sometimes had past girlfriends whose friends hated me for no reason. One was constantly bad mouthing me and trying to set my girlfriend at the time up with other guys before her friend even met me. "Don't try to understand women! My wife doesnt roll her eyes or huff and puff when I soyface over WH40K or battletech stuff. I am beyond blessed with such a woman. 😂😂😂 this is exactly how I got into the warhammer hobby in 1996 I was in the New Zealand 🇳🇿 Army (Joined up in 1992 at 16yrs old) I caught my mate throwing out his 4 Warhammer Fantasy Armies out in the Barracks Skip bin 😂 so I ask what the deal was and he said his GF told him that his models were childish and gave him the old it’s me or your toys 😂😂😂 so I rescued 4 Armies of Bretonnians, Empire, Wood Elves and High Elves and 4 dragons 😂😂😂 he came back 6 months later after she left him and asked for them back 😂😂😂😂😂 Piss off bro I had to teach him a lesson and keep them 😂😂😂

The crayon eating is such a meme an MRE company has made edible crayons as a joke gift. Marines go through stuff, the army was sent to Europe while the Marines went island hopping, yet despite that they aren't just the only branch to reach recruitment goals but often do so half way through the year.

Some women would like you to have a hobby that's awesome (so they can brag about you to their friends) and if possible dirt cheap (and potentially make some money with it). This just gave me an idea for getting rid of some models I bought when the local game store closed last year. It wasn't too long before they decided to close that there were a bunch of military guys who came in and bought around $500 worth of warhammer stuff. I don't think I'll ever get around to all of it and honestly I'd like to have the space back for the things I want to work on. So I'll have to see if I can find some of the guys in the service who play and see if they want any of it.

Dump her. This isn’t about Warhammer, it’s about control. It starts with something small like your hobby, then it will be your friends, your job, your appearance, and then your family. She will control every aspect of your life to mould you into the perfect boyfriend, and do you know what she will do when she’s achieved that goal? Dump you. As she won’t see you as a man as you’ve been seen a push over, and then what will you be left with? What she’s displaying here is narcissistic abusive behaviour, and it is abusive. She’ll charm her way into your life and those around you so no one can see her true colours, so no one will speak out against her or take your side. Confront her, if she gets defensive and refuses to recognise the damage she is doing, leave. She will not give you happiness in the long-term, and she is most definitely not wife material.

I live in NZ and have 4 hobby store's in my city, 1 stock's mainly comic's, 1 is MTG/card games, 1 is board games and 1 R/C, airfix etc. The first 3 also stock GW but none of them have any discount except for store rewards, spend money for BS rewards/discounts. Such is life for NZ Warhammer player 😢

Advice is sound reasoning. Execution is bloody terrible. Don't talk in that tone of voice & never call someone you love worthless by saying "I don't need you" & don't swear at/to them while talking. That's simply bad advice & not how to talk to the person you love. Definitely work on achieving a mutual goal together. Don't drive the wedge.

I am kinda on the fence about the first one. While that marine was maybe not the nicest person and if he indeed made awful remarks about the daughter that's obviously awful... But I guess we need a little more info... If there were masks mandated for shops marine was in the right, even if he didn't pick the right words. Of course it's not immediately killing anyones grandma but as a nurse in training I am 100% understanding of people with relatives that are immunocompramised. Especially in the beginning it was rather unclear what effect covid would have on someone who recently went through chemo or has some conditions that switched off their immune system. I don't know what the local rules in OPs area were before the first lock down and if those rule meant masks indoors in shops and public places it's not bad to follow those rules and to remind others to do so. If there weren't rules yet it was 100% uncalled for what marine did. He could have explained calmly how he feels anxious about maybe contracting something to his grandmother (no one knows if she might have actually been among the risk group of immunocompramised people) and therefore he himself wears a mask voluntarily... But yeah... A tirade is not the right way even though his motive is understandable and reasonable.
