One day, Mitsuha awakens in a room that is not her own and suddenly finds herself living the dream life in Tokyo-but in Taki's body! Elsewhere, Taki finds himself living Mitsuha's life in the humble countryside. In pursuit of an answer to this strange phenomenon, they begin to search for one another.

This anime movie is the best! But don't feel sorry that Mitsuha didn't get to write her name, or that Taki wrote "I love you" instead of his name. According to the rules set out in the movie, whatever happens during the dream is quickly forgotten. When Taki woke up on the mountain the next day, he had forgotten everything - even the reason for his being there. He even said "What am I doing here?" If Mitsuha had written her name on his hand, the next day Taki would not have understood why there is this strange name on his hand. It would mean nothing. Only one thing remained. That was the feeling of loss - the feeling that caused them both to spend their lives longing and searching for something. They didn't know what. That feeling and sense of searching is what ultimately brought them together 5 (or 8) years later. By the way, if you follow the dates in the movie, you will see that the comet hit in October of 2013, and Taki experienced his switching in 2016. Then five years passed, which makes it October of 2021 when he has his little walk with Okudera where they talk about the past. Notice the falling leaves emphasize the season. Then we see snow, so it is the winter of 2021/2022. Then we see cherry blossoms, meaning the spring of 2022 - this year! That is when they supposedy saw each other on the trains and met on the staircase. Also also, the staircase and many of the other locations in the movie are copied from photographs of real places in Tokyo - especially the staircase at the end of the movie, which has become a tourist destination. It is so famous that you can find it on Google maps by just typing in the search bar, "Your name staircase" and it will take you to the very one in real life. Try it.

"This movie anime has something I never felt before" And I feel you, bro. There is no words to describe how I felt the first time I watched it. My conclusion is that they're a bunch of mixed feelings in one that have no name yet.

They can't see each other since it's different timeline. Mitsuha experienced body swapping in 2013 while taki experienced it in 2016. There's a 3 years gap.

@@justindhra yep, and they see each other on the mountain because it's HALF LIGHT/TWILIGHT. The teacher said the meaning of half light at the beginning of the movie.

@@justindhra Thank you for this. For full-length reactions like this, I like to play and sync a copy of the movie either in another window or on a second screen. Any music playing in the background while the movie is playing clashes so hard with the movie audio that it makes it almost unwatchable, and takes me completely out of the mood to continue. Usually I will just totally skip reactions that play background music during the movie or episode. Playing music is fine during your intro and review portions of the reaction, but really needs to be turned off during the actual movie so people can properly watch along with their synced copies. Looking forward to more anime movie reactions from you! 👍
