The most important part to get clean is the hub where the disc sits, you should get that area spotless and get all the rust off as just a tiny bit of rust will make the disc wobble and it will be worse than before.

Thanks for showing us. i liked idea of the piston suppress tool did you buy or make ? its nice that ford are actually thinking things through ,like the hole in rear brake caliper to get the socket through,its a pity the made a right hash of the bonnet catch.I was thinking of putting clips through like they have for rally cars but theres no way to anchor them theirs hardly any metal on inner wing .gonna have to think about this ! cos i dont want to get caught out with cable broke,needs sorting beforehand .Might make a vidio of it for my channel. Nicely done there just did all new suspension and brakes at front of mine yesterday ,its good when you can save yourself some money from rip of garages .Take care Ant from sunny Wales.

I bought the tool for my 2010 Mondeo but it didn't fit the C Max, the little dowels were too big and too far apart, flipping typical, so I just filed one of the dowels to fit one of the piston holes the other dowel resting on the outer edge, didn't bother with the pad shaped plate that was part of the tool, just used a bit muscle power while twisting and it eventually got the piston back in. If that doesn't work that can put some pressure on the piston and twist the piston back in with some grips, bit rough like!

Hello, I have a small question ! I hope you can answer it please. Recently i have installed new break pads in my car both front and back. After installing the breakpads my car breaks are making squelling sound . Same sound like when break pads reach to wear limit and need to replace. Since I have new break pads what should i do? And if i put my car on jack !!! How free wheel should rotate with the hand? Do breaks drum get hot if yes how much ? Thank you in advance.
@5ivetimes1
@5ivetimes1 Жыл бұрын
The back of your pads should have an anti-squeal backing, but if not, apply some ceratec grease or similar to the BACK of the pad and to the corners of the pads that sit in the carrier. This should stop it. If not, you might have a seized calliper that isn’t retracting or you need to grease your slider pins.

@5ivetimes1
@5ivetimes1 Жыл бұрын
Did you manage to do this? You have to do that via the centre column in the car and remove a number of trim pieces to access it near the handbrake lever, depending on model and trim level. It’s one bolt, with a locking nut on the top. I think it’s 13mm off the top of my head. There will be vids on KZfaq somewhere if you never got around to it.

@Parknest
@Parknest 5 жыл бұрын
That job was spot on. Did you lubricate the caliper bolts? It is best to use lithium grease on them. Copper grease can be used which is better than nothing. You do resemble a young Jeremy Clarkson. You just need to work on the Yorkshire accent (where are you from?). I'm considering a Mk4 Golf as my next project car and your Golf videos will be useful to me should I get one.

@Parknest

I meant the sliding pins for the caliper (the ones you use with the 7mm Allen key) they do need lubrication (not on the threads!) so that the caliper can move freely. Sorry for the confusion! I work in Leeds so I'm not a million miles away from you. You must be near the airport because I can hear the planes in your recent videos. You must be right under the flight path.

@@bluudysgarage copper grease destroy rubber I use silicone grease because Silicone grease is commonly used for lubricating and preserving rubber parts, such as O-rings. Additionally, silicone grease does not swell or soften the rubber, which can be a problem with hydrocarbon based greases. It functions well as a corrosion-inhibitor and lubricant for purposes that require a thicker lubricant

I guess you need that special tool to compress the caliper! Regular C Clamp won’t do it for me!
@AlymerKiteboy
@AlymerKiteboy 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, because unlike the front pistons which just push straight back in using the old pad and a big c-clamp, the rears need to be rotated back in. I made a simple tool using a disk of hardwood into which I installed two screws of appropriate shaft size to fit the two holes in the piston face... cut the heads off after screwing them in. Then threaded a large hex head bolt through a hole in the middle to provide a means of turning it with a ratchet. (Hope that makes sense! It was quicker and cheaper than going back out to buy the proper tool when I first discovered this!)
