I love this talk. I read that he gave ted talk in his book “abundance”. It is extremely easy to be pessimistic. But it takes a broadened view and graceful awareness to see great possibility in the future. If we choose to be pessimistic. We dont have a future. We have to see beyond those dreadful news. We have to see we dealt with every tough issue. See? We are vaccinating people from covid ! A year go. It seemed impossible. We are capable of resolving them. If we dont think we cant. There wont be a future for us!

This was probably the most interesting video I've seen...ever. It's nice to hear a POSITIVE outlook on our future. He presented some really great ideas and I'm excited to see what happens with new technology in developing countries. I think that everyone should see this talk.

@enticed2zeitgeist Sure, but my point is that "world peace" won't be achieved by everyone suddenly deciding to love each other and stop being selfish, greedy and dishonest. If we get there at all, it'll be through generation after generation of social evolution. Again, assuming we don't blow ourselves up first.

A much needed reminder to keep living our destinys, the abundance was so abundant, that I was made aware of this book from the $1 rack in the campus library. The cover looked like a chipotle product, also a symbol/lifestyle of the modern abundance when we choose to rethink value as seller makers.

Great to hear all of that, but I'm afraid that the pace in which technology is advancing is way faster than the working class can adapt. Especially during this century there will be a great disruption and people going through some really difficult times

Peter Diamandis is utterly brilliant. Between Planetary Resources, Singularity University and others, he is demonstrating a model of what a great CEO and entrepreneur is all about. I wish I had the opportunity to work with someone as inspiring as this.

its 2020 and we are still dumping out thousands of metric tons of garbage and waste to third world countries and to the ocean. what grand innovation have we come up with to get rid of our garbage? I have yet to hear anything

Since 2022 NYC recycles food left overs and gardenplants to compost and scientists found out clams clear plastics from the ocean. In Greece renewable energy provides 60%of the country's energy needs! Its WAR the most wasteful human activity so Putin and islamists must go!

Here's the problem, abundance of technology does NOT equate to actual progress. Like the speaker mentioned, poorer individuals today have much more at their disposal than rich people did about 100 years ago. If were so advanced right now, then why is there a crisis in energy, water, the environment, terrorism etc. Why do we live in a less equal and unhappy society today than ever? All this technology yet why have we not already turned it into progress? An egalitarian society is more important to us than tech. Also, the idea that poor people should be happy with what they have because its better than what rich people had 100 years ago is dismissive to say the least.

When mechanical minds have caught up with our own amd become abundant enough, they will succeed us because they are faster, more efficient, and less costly. Everything that we have now is because technology has become more and more efficient than human muscles. Even now human minds are being succeeded by bots. There is no office at google demanding that all of these documents need to be sorted according to tags and like a 100 people sorting documents getting paid above minimum wage. We are the weakest link in our advancement through the tech tree.

It is shameful when only a handful of people control the wealth of the world in disgusting obscene amounts of money. Are they alleviating poverty? No they want more and more in their greed and next comes power over people. WHY? We all only have on average 80 or 90 years here, so why do these people need more than they could spend in 1000 lifetimes. How can they sleep knowing millions starve while they pig out on the finest foods? Where is theirhumanity? Things have to change and things WILL change. People are waking up to the greed and avarice of these people, and we the people are on the move to change things.

It has been ever thus. Inequality was far, far worse in the past. Andrew Carnegie and John D. Rockefeller were each worth over $300 billion in today's money, at a time when most people didn't even have indoor plumbing. The Rothschild family had assets valued at trillions of dollars today when malnutrition was still widespread in the richest countries. Ninety percent of the population of ancient Rome lived below the poverty line. There are actually fewer people living in absolute poverty today than ever before, and that number has been cut in half in 25 years - an astonishing and unprecedented achievement. We have actually made tremendous progress very quickly. The rising inequality today is only a historical moment, even though it certainly doesn't feel like one. Today's ultra-rich of course build vast mansions and yachts that will never make them happy, but many are also remarkably charitable and progressive in terms of establishing foundations and initiatives that will prove of great benefit to the future of civilization - for instance, the vast investment in medical innovation at present, or Bill Gates' anti-malaria campaign, etc. The necessary transition to a green economy could cause the most massive redistribution of wealth in history.

People keep hovering over the aspects of money and capital and it is clear with this TED Talk that abundance is about resource that help the individuals and the world get ahead...and that is the beauty of this concept, its not about restriction it is about expansion.

This is a much better presentation then the previous TedTalk uploaded to KZfaq. It recognizes human civilization's progress and its potential to make things better. Sure, if resources get scarce there will be troubles. But we've overcome doomsday scenarios before. There is a future for humanity. Science will bring humanity closer to solving the world's problems. Not drum-beating and scare tactics.

I'm not saying I have the answer, but here's a possible reason: perhaps our idea of what is necessary has changed. NOW, we require cell phones, cable, internet, video games, Blu-ray disks, etc. And you'll find these things in the homes of the poor. Perhaps the so-called middle class family is living beyond its means, with all kinds of additional, purely voluntary expenses that a 1963 family didn't have.

I personally would happily grow food, build automation, teach, counsel, basically whatever I needed to do to help see these ideas become a reality and that's why I advocate it and volunteer and give as much as I can.

I think facebook is a great way of understanding other humans in a very deep and personal way, if you are able to read between the lines, which made me realize how the lack of logic brings humans into depression and how easy and logical it is to not fall into believing that your thoughts and reality are the same. This made me love this planet more than ever and realize how fucking true whatthis guy talks about is

This is more of the aware education we need on a global scale, at least the majority, and connects right into The Zeitgeist Movement and Venus Project, the main groups promoting this aware information and it's need to simply be common knowledge. At this point. It's always hard to see people try to debate or deny this in grand scope, but then again I've been following this info for years, it takes time for newcomers, especially the indoctrinated and uneducated.

I love this message! It's good to keep things in perspective and notice the positive things in out world; however, I did find it ironic that he was giving bad news about bad news. I think this had the same effect on the Amygdala, causing a bit of a paradox.

The perspective of a person is what changes situations to the positive or negative ( glass half full/ glass half empty) The same thing just a different way of looking at it. I personally would rather take the way of the opptimist and see what good we all can do then go towards that.

Quantum computing is about to put one gigantic spike in that computer curve. I am so glad to have been born in an era where humanity may become immortal, powerful, and set for the rest of eternity. Let these days be remembered as the spark that began an empire, rather than the days when humanity dropped the ball.

Technology is expanding at an INCREDIBLE rate and this guy got two degrees at Harvard and went to MIT so he knows what he's talking about.
