I've always been fascinated by those numerous Cobra Daytona' you can see racing at Peter Auto's events, Masters Historic or at other historic racing weekends, but I never asked any owners/drivers to put an action camera inside the cockpit of one of them. Until last month...
I still don't know exactly the history of these cars, if they are all recent recreations built from scratch or, for example, rebodied AC Cobra (Roadster) chassis. What I know for sure is that they're not the six original Shelby Daytona, but they are formidable track monsters with FIA HTP (Historic Technical Passport) which allows them to be raced in any FIA approved historic series.
In this video you can enjoy some laps around Circuit Paul Ricard in a beautiful grey-blue Cobra Daytona Coupé, managed by W.R.S. Wassermann Racing Service, during the qualifying session of the Sixties' Endurance Series!

@@dreyn7780 Sorry, but the shortest distance between 2 points is a straight line - desirable. Taking a corner following the center curve is not the shortest distance - undesirable. That's why the quickest drivers in a race have learned how to approach, set up for, and cut the apex perfectly. If there is a sports car track anywhere near you, just ask people there who either teach road racing courses or are drivers, they will confirm just what I have said. Good luck!

The 289 is an often overlooked engine choice because of it's small displacement, but it sounds fantastic and performs/reacts very well with some decent mods. Going close to the edges of the track, is a risk and that always causes crashes and loss of time. 1 mistake at the edge of the race track cause a big time loss which results in slower lap times than if you just slow down and drive in the middle of the road. You match yourself to what the race track designer has built for you to experience. You don’t fight the track design. You perfectly match the track. Your tyres are cold. That speed was not going to beat, or even keep up with the Ferrari GTO - its main rival. That's why Peter Brock designed the coupe version shown here. @@dasboot9471 - It wasn't finished at all. Shelby made up a story that it was in an accident on the way to Le Mans and was wrecked. Peter Brock later told the true story that showed the car never received the many parts it need to be completed.

All my road race experience has been illegal, to date. Would love a chance to run a track where I didn't have to worry about some random car making an appearance. Really open it up and feel the speed.

In 1968, I was offered a chance to buy one of these cars. They wanted $12,000 delivered in Baltimore. Sadly that was out of my price range. Plus I had very little Ford experience. Instead, I bought a used Sting Ray to go to driver's school.
