Thank you Dave the job went pretty smooth. I did have some difficulty getting the pulley off . used a 1/2X1 1/2 X 2foot piece of aluminum and had to give a few whacks while rotating the pulley. I know the repair shop or dealer would have wanted to replace the whole compressor . Probably would have been 1500 job . following your directions only set me back 40.00 and about 2 hours of my labor . ( I painted my rusty oil pan while I was under there.

Man! You have no idea how happy I am you made this. My wife's ac stopped working and the shop said 1200 bucks. I tested all the electronics and checked all fuses and relays they were all good so I knew it wasn't the compressor because the clutch wouldn't engage. 40 bucks on ebay and I just finished the ac is ice cold!! Thank you so much for your help.

If the coil is bad , will the clutch still engage every now and then?. I followed along to your trouble shooting video, i don't have a test light but i pulled the fuse out and checked it , it was good . Put everything back together, crunk the car up just to see and the clutch engaged. Did not come on next time i started the car.

@DavidTheMechanic
@DavidTheMechanic 5 жыл бұрын
I guess I'm not exactly sure what you mean if the clutch was frozen then it would be turning the compressor all the time. Is that what you were experiencing? It works by an electric magnet when the coil is excited the magnetic field pulls The clutch into the pulley turning the compressor

@@skullybonz3069 okay if you don't have a impact gun try putting the ratchet on the center bolt and hitting it really fast with a hammer and see if that will break it free there needs to be some kind of shock that will overcome the free Spin of the compressor

Unfortunately I replaced the coil but still not working right, before i turn on the AC, the low side reading was 80 psi ambient was 75 degree , the turn on AC clutch pulls in then after 30 sec or so I notice low side pressure was 30 psi then the clutch pulled out an it never came back on. Turn off the engine waited a while then same thing happened. Any suggestions?? Thanks for your time.

have 2012, we have had nothing but problems with the a/c on this car. had shop replace entire compressor 2 years ago. to no avail, system keeps building too much pressure in system and wont engage clutch until car cools off and then works half the time. my buddy says there is some kinda "flap" that regulates pressure and is stuck closed. do you know anything about this? Thank You
@DavidTheMechanic
@DavidTheMechanic 4 жыл бұрын
The only thing that I can think of that would stop up the system is the expansion valve is closed or the receiver drier is clogged and on some AC systems I'm not sure about this one but there is a muffler and I've heard of those going bad. But if the high side pressure is climbing that's most definitely a clogged somewhere I would recommend replacing the expansion valve and the receiver drier and flushing the entire system. And remember after you flush it you're going to have to add oil
@DavidTheMechanic
@DavidTheMechanic 4 жыл бұрын
You know what after thinking about that for a moment I need to ask you a question when you replaced your compressor a couple of years ago was it because the compressor had a catastrophic failure if so there could be pieces of the insides of that compressor stuck in the line somewhere if you choose to do this job when you open the low side line and it's really black and oily inside there we call that black death. And there's really no other way around it except for to take every single piece apart flush it out very well run a brush through all the hoses or replace everything

He says maybe low pressure switch???, but i have no idea about other compressor, just know a/c worked fine until we got to 115 degree heat and shut off, so i told shop to get it fixed. , so they replaced compressor.

@@warsteed357 from my understanding the low pressure switch turns the compressor off when the pressure drops below a certain point.

Hye david first thanks for this awesome video. My wife`s car has almost the same problem compressor dsnt engage but when i try to move it with hand it moves but its hard. so i am not sure its compressor or the coil... i have 2 questions 1. how u decided that its the coil and the clutch not the whole compressor ? 2. can u please link the product in the comments.
@DavidTheMechanic
@DavidTheMechanic 5 жыл бұрын
Well I would think if if the center bolt is hard to turn then it's a bad compressor but if you're trying to turn it where the belt goes around then it's a bad bearing in the pulley
