I don't know what it is, but I love hearing the live members screaming "Trying to save myself... etc" The interplay is awesome. Favorite NIN song by far.

Goddamn. Its so disappointing that i will never get to experience nin like this. In my opinion this was their prime. Don't get me wrong they still preform great but if coarse all the songs that has screaming in it he can't sound like that anymore. Im 27. I am extremely fucking depressed. I hate everything. And it's not me trying to act like Trent. This is who i have been for years and it's why i connect so deeply with the Trent of the fragility era and pre fragility. I also am an addict. Will always be and I try everyday to get the thoughts out of my head. I go to a methadone clinic daily for the past 6 years which is not any better than shooting heroin. If i would've known how impossibly hard it is to get off methadone and knew that the withdrawals are worse than any other withdrawals from any other drugs or alcohol (worst as in the withdrawals literally last for many many months. For some they last for6 or 7 months and the only reason they were able to stay off was because they were in jail. ) I have no friends anymore hugely because of my addictions but more recently because i shut everyone and everything out. Nothing in my life has changed in the past 4 years. Work and take my methadone everyday. But i have mentally gotten worse. So much that now i don't know who the fuck i am anymore. I've always been depressed and always liked to be alone but at least id still call my friends or answer their calls to hang out. But slowly every year for the past 4 years until now i am at the lowest I've ever been. I ignore every call and text from all my friends now. Or if they run into me out and about ill lie and say i have to work or something. I feel so fucking alone which is my own fault but not just in the physical sense. I just feel completely alone mentally physically whatever. I have no drive or ambition at all anymore. I've at least have remained a really good employee. Never miss work or call off. Have a great resume but i dont know anyone to help get me into a good job like the mills. Im the only one out of my friends that still live with my parents. None of them have good work ethics or are responsible but since they all knew someone they all have great paying jobs. They overlooked their complete lack of experience or common sense and yet i bust my fucking ass every goddamn day and get commended and compliments all the time at work yet i don't know anyone to get me in somewhere. I've had it. Everyday literally is either the same or a little bit worse. I don't have the balls to kill myself. I wouldn't do it anyways but i welcome someone to just walk up behind me and blow my head off or just slit my throat. I don't want to die but i could care less about being on this earth for many more years to come if my fucking life is just this. Im sorry. Not looking for attention, pity, or sympathy. I just needed to write this even if its online to a bunch of strangers. I initially only wanted to comment on how i wish i could've seen Trent during tds and fragility but then i got worked up and had to let the feelings out somehow or somewhere. Why is it that good people are ALWAYS the ones that never ever catch a break no matter how much initiative and comments i get all the time from various bosses but can't even get a highrr paying job just because i have no family or connections somewhere to get me in like my lazy friends?

Yeah I agree. This was their prime. I got to see them in 2000 during the Fragility 2.0 tour with A Perfect Circle opening. Was mind blowing!!!

it's been a year, and i would love to know about you. I'm only 20, mentally ill, apparently they treat me as an addict too, but nothing close to opiates. Same as you, I relate a lot to Trent's lyrics (mainly Broken, TDS and Fragile), but what brings me a certain kind of hope is that Trent himself got through it. I know there's a lot of difference between our stories, but I keep thinking if he did it, I can make it too, I can turn things around and get clean, build a family and what not. Wishing you the best!

I like Trent Reznor during this era and downward spiral the best. Right now he just looks like a buffed up bulky bouncer. And he even sings with a more lower tone of voice in his songs he goes "Hey" in the middle of his songs. Today he doesn't even look like he is part of NIN anymore. (the original NIN that is)

I gotta agree. But he was lucky enough to get famous when he was younger and had his demons and addictions sadly, BUT, that was the drive behind some of his greatest hits. The woodsy performance is what made him a legend. But put it into perspective that's over 30 years ago that he started his mom journey so it's natural most people are going to change because eventually you will look ridiculous doing the same thing year after year and older people don't have the fire to sing the angry songs like they used to after they get older, it's a sad truth. I really hate that I can't see prime nin, especially the Woodstock performance without a time machine 😂😅😮‍💨☹️

This is from a bootleg compilation titled And All That Should Have Been in which every song was edited from multiple performances like AATCHB. It should be available somewhere for download, too.

And another thing is that I'm voicing my opinion about his looks because I'm still use to the original Trent (the 90s Trent). And I have the right to say what I want and think any way I want about Trent and NIN. And I will never disrespect or criticize NIN and Trent Reznor (because he is the father of Industrial rock) and NIN will always be one of my favorite rock bands of all time. They've changed my life man! And I'm sorry if I called you a idiot.

@ComaAlpha i'm still missing how you could say any of those were selling out. trent's what.....45 years old now. a long ways away from the kid that started out 20 some years ago. you can't expect someone to be the same person making the same music over nearly a quarter of decade. i'm curious though, what defines selling out to you? he's still making original music that no one else is doing, and does it exactly how he wants and when he wants.

anyone that thinks NIN sold out or went mainstream doesn't deserve the eardrums they used to make such a pathetic assessment of their music

@jumeau1 Well said.I've never heard a NIN song on any "top 40/pop" radio station. And "selling out" is when musicians have no artistic integrity and sell one of their songs to a corporation and then they use it in a commercial and totally make the song irrelevant and meaningless. When i saw "Ceremony" by Joy Division/New Order in a commercial i thought what the FUCK!! Ian Curtis is rolling over in his grave!

First of all I am not only dissing Trent for his looks. I was basically voicing my opinion on his looks, it may not have sounded like a easy and decent sounding opinion but it was my opinion. And again opinions are like assholes (everybody's got one). Second of all I was mostly commenting about his sound if you read my comment clearly. And I know Trent is NIN no shit I've lsiten to NIN since 1994 when march of the pigs came out when I was only 14 years old.

And also "sell outs" are most of the pop and rap crap you see on MTV and hear on radio.Musicians who do anything their record company says because it will sell more CDs and make more money for them.Having no artistic integrity for the sake of fame and fortune. Why do you see a lot of songs in commercials are from the "one hit wonder bands" from the 80s?Because they need the money! Now if anyone thinks NIN are "sellouts" then you don't know shit.

Originality, creativity, edgyness, and underground is almost extinct today. And this is one of the reasons why most rock music is getting worst and worst every year.
