One thing i think is a security risk, and that is putting the sticker on your window. Why advertize what security youre running? Its like showing a photo of your housekey on your window. :) just saying, otherwise love the video!

You might want to add sensors to a couple spots in the room to get an average air quality reading, depending on the size of the room and rate of air circulation through and into it.

I have a PM 2.5 (Air Quality) sensor in my garage woodshop and I think it's one of the best additions to any shop: The numbers tell me when it's a good time to take my mask off after sanding or using any other tool. IMO it should be in every shop out there.

I was going to attempt to do that kind of wall pattern with LEDs running the whole length of the "circuits" for my workshop. Ultimately I chickened out but I'm glad I now have your video as a resource for the future. Now all it needs is pocket doors that make the "whoosh" noise when they open and close :) Anyway, looks great! Thanks for sharing!

Take it from someone who has been building scale terrain for gaming and models for over a quarter of a century. The fastest and easiest way to cut any type of foam fast, especially if you don't care about edge cleanliness, is with an old steak knife. The serrated blade that is semi dull is perfect for cutting foam fast and accurately.

Something worth noting. The casing around a door frame is a surprisingly integral part to the structure of the door system. It doesn't look like your new custom casing is doing anything to tie that door frame to the house frame. Sure, the door isn't going to fall off but it can really impact the feel of a solid door in the near term, and allow door alignment to suffer in the long term.

You joke about it, but I really do appreciate that you leave mistakes in the videos. You could make everything look polished and perfect, but (silly as it may seem) it's nice to get the reminder that we're all human, and that mistakes or setbacks occur for everyone. I also like when you've left in things like, "If I did this again, I might do this differently, or I might try things this way," because it lets the folks watching learn from your experience, especially when we (like you) might be doing things for the first time.

This is a really good idea. Didn't know there was an air tester for the Arduino so will have to check it out. I was building an attic hatch for my new garage using four pieces of 2" foam glued together. I used PL300 to glue them together which would have worked in your build as well, but I think the hot glue will work fine. I don't have a router table as that would likely be the best way to cut the foam with a long enough template bit. I opted to use the oscillating saw as well after trying with the long Olfa blade but still wasn't getting great results as it was almost impossible to keep the blade straight up and down so that it stayed even all the way around. With the oscillating saw was able to keep it pretty straight and use the foam board above as a guide. Pretty funny to see that's how you guys cut yours as well.

The buttons start ort stop my recording using the keyboard-library und usb. When I am recording the led-stripe und a cntrollamp turn red. After stopping recording they go of. I'm new to this channel, but I'm wondering if maybe setting up something like Home Assistant might also help with these projects. So instead of adding the logic in the Arduino, you can just read the values with an ESP send them to the HA, then have other devices respond to the sensor values. That way if you need to make any updates you can do it on the fly with a few clicks. Also, you can set up monitoring over time, plus alerts for off hours, so if you're gone and there is smoke in the room you might be able to get some push notifications.

Placement of the sensor is critical for effectiveness. Just like a regular smoke detector, you want to place it away from "dead zones" (such as areas near the wall/ceiling join). Your sensor placement will not be terribly good - I'd suggest mounting it on the ceiling, near center. You have to watch the length of the sensor leads - if it's providing a voltage signal you will get some distortion from the lead resistance if it's far away. That's the reason most industrial sensors use a 4-20 mA current signal, as it's pretty much immune to degradation from distance or RF interference. Neat project, however - I really like the design elements!

Reminds me how workplaces that care always have extra layers of protection. I’d suggest a third layer would be clearly labeled and documented the power cutoff for those devices should something happen. That way you don’t need to enter an unknown or less than safe environment in order to make it safe. Good to see people treating even hobby equipment with the respect it deserves. Hope you never need to actually use any of the safety equipment you setup.

It may have been the easiest to just mount the MDF to the Foam sheet before cutting everything out on the CNC. Foam will cut at a much slower feed and speed than MDF so you would have been safe to simply add one more pass of each line at the remaining depth.
