My game got chewed up during demo night in February, everyone complained about the UI. I made some improvements and added more feedback mechanics in time for the May demo night. People were actually playing the game instead of fighting the UI. Well, some of them, anyway. My UI still needs more work.

Everyone complained about a mechanic where firing your laser weapon too much dealt self-damage. Turns out, that mechanic wasn't as essential as I thought it was

anything that hurts the player to do X is always a hard sell unless you make that bonus so good that it tempts them into using their health as a resource.

Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite aimed squarely at the hardcore players and paid dearly for it. The roster was very controversial and turned off many players who just stuck with MvC3. On the flip side, they tried to get MCU synergy by making the game less comic book and more cinematic. Another bad move as it lost its identity in the process (and given the limited budget they really couldn't afford to make a good story mode.) Meanwhile, Celeste has a ton of options to make the game very accessible. I've seen people play with just their voice. I've seen people with limited motor control enjoy the game because they can take it at their speed. Are they going to do speedruns? Probably not, but that's OK.
