I live in a small community up the way from this man’s house. We’ve always heard rumors that someone would have a gun pointed at you if you dove up their driveway and they didn’t immediately recognize you. Some of them said he would have it pointed at you as you came around the turn. Some people said you wouldn’t see anyone but you’d hear loud bangs somewhere off in the distance and see dirt clods shoot up into the air in front of your car. Others said they’ve had tires popped while a mysterious bang was heard just a split second before. My neighbor once told of a time they drove up the wrong path and came to a house where someone started screaming and chasing after them with a pistol saying get off my property or you’ll be buried on my property. Now everyone is aware they weren’t rumors. It’s also crazy that the police never investigated it until now. Glad to know the members in my community aren’t crazy. Well, except this guy. Edit: it makes me wonder if they’ll ever start finding bodies. Given all the rumors. I have a suspicion they won’t be of Caucasian descent

Some people have a false entitlement to what is theirs, and what they can do. They wasn't expecting anyone, a car and a couple of motorcycles show up at night out front, so instead of calling the police "I'll handle this." Some people really think you can just shoot someone for just being on their property unannounced. It's nerve racking there's people out there like that, especially when my part time job is delivering to peoples houses.

They were lost trying to get to a party they had been invited to, but turned down the wrong driveway, one driveway too soon, from where they were trying to go. The two different driveways are both very long and laid out rather similarly to each other. There's another video that shows the area on Google Earth and the main road and two driveways for the area. One of the biggest problems was that these young ppl kept losing signal on their GPS. So now they're dead, killed, murdered for nothing but getting lost on a dark, rural roadway? So wrong of that old man. He deserves what he got because he also lied to the dispatch trying to cover up what he had done. He may have gotten off more easily had he not been so stupid until he lied on tape talking to the emergency dispatch person. What an idiot. And his wife was in on the lies, too.

If this couple were so fearful, why didn't they have cameras installed on the outside of their home? Or a gate at the end of their driveway? I don't buy this BS about being invaded. "According to the ITO, that afternoon Colten Boushie and his girlfriend Kiora Wuttunee went swimming in the Maymont River with their friends Eric Meechance, his girlfriend, Belinda Jackson, and a young man named Cassidy Whitstone. The young people had been drinking during the day and some of them said they were drunk, according to the statements they gave police. They were riding in Ms. Wuttunee's grey 2003 Ford Escape. At about 5:30 pm they arrived at the Stanley farm, after, according to the document, visiting a neighbouring farm belonging to the Fouhy family, where they "attempted to steal vehicles and items," the ITO says. The story provided by Colten's family is that he and his friends were having car trouble. A police officer who was at the scene said the car had only a rim, no tire, on the front driver's side. According to Colten's brothers, Colten and his friends may have been looking for help. Sheldon Stanley was helping his father Gerald build a fence when Colten and his friends drove up the gravel driveway from the main road that runs in front of their property. Leesa Stanley, Gerald's wife, was mowing the lawn a short distance away. Sheldon told police he saw the Ford Escape slow near a pickup parked in their yard. Then he saw a young man, it's not clear who, but almost certainly not Colten Boushie, get out of the Escape and jump into the pickup. Then Sheldon said he heard the Stanleys' ATV starting up. Sheldon and his father started to yell, and the young man jumped back into the Ford Escape. Sheldon said the vehicle swerved in his direction. Sheldon, who was carrying a large hammer, smashed the windshield of the Escape as it was reversing. His father, meanwhile, kicked in the taillight. The Escape lurched forward and collided with a parked car belonging to the Stanleys. Sheldon said he saw two men get out of the Escape and run off, while two women, and Colten Boushie, stayed behind. At this point Sheldon said he went to the house to get truck keys. While he was inside he heard two gunshots, and then as he stepped outside again, he heard a third." This is from the police investigation, They went to a neighboring farm, attempted to steal a truck, broke the window with the rifle that caused that rifle buttstock to break and trigger to fall off. Kayins family for wrongful death and so forth, the friends in the car for pain and suffering and therapy they will be needing. This couple has a nice house. They should both have to pay monetary damages for what they did to these young people and their families.

There can be an aspect to fear like you say. But there is still common sense to the fear. You come out of your home at night on the deck with bright lights on if you think cars are going to cause problems? No, you don't do that. If you are scared for your life, you don't stand where you can easily be seen and shot. You stay inside and watch for a bit. Then you call 911. You can be inside with a gun ready, still watching to see what the people in the cars are going to do. You have the advantage in a dark house while they are outside in the light. He was not afraid. He was a gun toting "macho" wannabe. Watch the video of the closing arguments. It clarifies even more this mans attitude and lies. His call to 911 and his conversation with the officers that came to his home show his blatant untruthfulness (and his wifes as well) as well as his calm and actually flippant attitude. I know in some cases, people might be overly fearful in these times. But he was NOT one of them.

I would like to ask a question as to societal attitudes in general. If the person who was shot and killed by driving up the same driveway looking for the same party by accident was called Kevin Gillis.. a 20 year old college male would the reaction be the quite the same? Would the wifes testimony be seen as more valid if the car had 4 X young men? I dont think people would be appalled but not quite as appalled as they are now and the follow on question to that is if this is the case why is it the case? But that asked... this is a very sad case and the shooter must have had a pathetically paranoid life to be willing to do what he did but I suspect if the car had 4 males this would be quite a different reaction.
@billstubbs8226
@billstubbs8226 Ай бұрын
Actually I don't think the reaction would be much different, and here is why. Monahan could see the vehicles and the motorcycle; he couldn't have seen the occupants of the two vehicles, given that the only light was the vehicle and motorcycle headlights, and the outside lights of the home when Monahan turned those on. No one got out or even opened the door of either vehicle, and at the closest they were 25 to 30 yards from the Monahan home. To put it bluntly, all Kevin Monahan ever needed to do, was watch, and see IF any further suspicious behavior took place (it never did), and that holds true no matter who the occupants of the vehicles were. If there was anything that looked threatening, the next step would be calling 911. For perspective, I live in a rural area, in a "stand your ground" state. It's very quiet, with little vehicle traffic, especially after 9 pm,. People get lost, drive by slowly looking for an address, or pull into the wrong driveway all the time; so the only thing that would be unusual here would be the multiple vehicles. Grounds to turn on outside lights and watch, sure; but absent anything more suspicious, I'd see no reason at that point to even call 911, much less go get my shotgun (yes, I do keep one for home defense). There's exactly NO IMMINENT THREAT, not even close; it's possible, but unlikely, that one will develop. NO reason for me to arm myself, NO reason to go outside, (with or without a gun) and certainly NO reason to show a gun, much less fire it! The lesson here, is that in any emergency, whether you are responding to a call, or the emergency has come to you, your most essential tool is the one located behind your eyes and between your ears; fail to use it, and no matter what else you have, the outcome will be NOT be good! This applies to professional First Responders and ordinary citizens alike! You will likely be anxious, the adrenaline will be pumping, you will likely be afraid, but no matter what, you MUST NOT let fear or any other emotion override your judgement and common sense! That is what Kevin Monahan did; he let fear and emotion create in his mind a threat that never really was, and now a young woman is dead, and Monahan will spend the rest of his life behind bars. This is a tragedy, but one that could have been and should have been avoided. The only positive here, is a clear lesson in what NOT to do in defending your home and family.
@private-private

@@billstubbs8226 Ok, we will have to agree to disagree and thats ok. You guys aren't getting the whole story by these snippets: "Kevin Monahan, 66, was convicted of second-degree murder in the death of Kaylin Gillis. Gillis was riding in a caravan of two cars and a motorcycle that pulled into Monahan's long, winding driveway in the town of Hebron last April while her friends were looking for another person's house." It wasn't just one lady "pulling into the driveway to turn around" like these snippets would have you believe.
