You can't go wrong with an Acer Aspire 5. I have an older model. Still works great after 4 years. I did replace the HDD with a SSD.

I got this laptop for my wife. Less than $500. Ours is the Aspire 5, i-5, Iris Graphics and a 512 GB (Gen 3) NVME drive. I immediately added a 1 TB SATA SSD and upgraded RAM from 8 GB to 12 GB. (Then to 20 GB.) It does everything she wants to do, even in two different languages. Cheers!

I have this laptop. It's pretty decent. Long battery life. The charger doesn't connect properly though and falls out with the slightest movement. More than 10x a day.

I use my laptop for graduate work, and mine just died. This video made it so much easier to decide on what to buy and gave me piece of mind that I wasn't wasting money! Such a great video for those of us who aren't tech savvy, thank you so much!!!!!

I have this laptop, no finger print scanner so maybe a different model but it’s the one with an mx250 gpu in it and it can even do some solid light gaming too, along with work and good battery too. Acer has definitely upped their game in recent years making high quality devices!

okay i have this laptop and i wanted to upgrade from the 4 gigs of ram so i bought a 16gb ddr4 corsair vengeance ram stick and when i instal it it causes a blue windows recovery screen

if i remember correctly the only aluminum part in this is the top half of the screen also consider the screen before buying it color is really muted For someone who have used this laptop lot of things you said are over exaggerated you're definitely not considering other laptop at the same or lower price range. also 200gb is not big nor 500gb are, the screen are actually bad (go intel graphic adjust it there)

Is the ram in this unit dual channel? The onboard graphics really need it.

The back panel is flimsy and hence may break if more than 60% force is applied to it. The battery is above average, and can last 8 hours on windows if lots of office apps are running on it. I installed linux and it seems great the battery last way longer , ssd has made this laptop faster. overall i love it .

What can you say about the battery?? I got this recently and I have observed that my battery is draining pretty fast (I am not into gaming or any demanding workloads yet). Any recommendations on how to fix it??

I've had this laptop for a while and I'm enjoying the fact that I can play bo2 and mw3 without hackers(plutonium) which is a bonus for me. The ps2 emulator(pcsx2) runs very well. However for about 60 bucks you can order a 16gb ram stick that will help you play the big boy games at a much faster speed. And make sure you buy a cooling pad (20-35 bucks)so your laptop doesn't overheat

Had my aspire M for 10 years now. Was working great until it got dropped out my car. Mailing it in for repairs. To this day Acer never made one better than the M model.

I'm a graphic designer, and my two laptops draw 180W each. I'm currently prepping for hurricane season here in New Orleans (ie power-outage season) and I have a 720Wh power bank, which means that one of my laptops would run the whole thing out in just four hours (and that's assuming 100% efficiency, which isn't a thing), and I have several other things to keep charged. Because of that, I need a low-power backup machine that can run Illustrator and Photoshop without melting down, and the fact that this only draws 45W makes this very attractive; that's potentially 16 hours, not to mention the battery life! Would you happen to know how it runs Adobe apps? I work in publishing so it's all print graphics, no video editing or motion graphics or anything fancy like that. I'm around 90% Illustrator, 10% Photoshop these days. Thanks!

Its a brilliant budget laptop for programming. I got it in the ryzen 5 and 16gb to run a debugger. Works brilliantly for under $600 refurbished.

I use the aspire 5, it's a good laptop for schoolwork of such, however, when gaming, its hard drive gets pretty hot so I may need some tips on that, still a good working laptop however!

I used to have an older version of this. Would be absolutely amazing should DDR5 and newer igpus come in like RDNA 2 and succeeding Intel XE.

I personally wouldn't get another one because I've only had mine for eight months and the hinges have already snapped. And it's designed for everyday use.

As someone who already has a main computer at home I built, I wanted something not as 'flashy' and a good compromise between price and specifications for my university laptop. I found this in the acer aspire 5, I've just gotten it, downgraded it to windows 10 (11 is unsufferable imo) and have no complaints, I got it brand new for 599£, the model is an i7 11th gen with standard 8GBs of Ram and a 1TB SSD. This will handle my uni load fine, in fact an i5 would've handled my uni load fine but for the cheap price I couldn't not go for the i7, and the battery life is suitable too. I was surprised by the build quality, I thought there would be a huge compromise to meet the low price, but nope I find it's decent. I was also surprised at the microphone quality, I'll most likely never use it and do all my at home lessons, and discord calls on my PC at home not on my uni laptop, but it's still appreciated and good for people who don't have a work-station at home. I recommend this not just for study and work but also for general use. It won't handle mid end gaming, and will always be suited to lower end gaming. I am very surprised at the value for money acer has managed.

Drawbacks hits me hard.. Working on graphics with aspire 5 2022 is so frustrating. Colors of my graphics is so different when printed or shared and viewed to other devices. My expectation on my productivity went crashing.

You're review of the ACER ASPIRE 5 was way too picky for 90% of us for whom this $500-range i5 laptop is a fantastic choice ... and the full-size backlit keyboard is excellent in my opinion. PS - It wasn't meant for gamers.

Best bang for the buck laptop.. I like the Ryzen option better upgraded with 16 GB RAM and added 2.5 500 SSD... That's the sweet spot.

I bought an Acer 5 back in February 2023 biggest mistake I have ever done. What I found is the volume which is so low I have to plug it into an amplifier to hear the sound in movies or music videos. The backlight on the keyboard is useful as I struggle to see the keys to type so the backlight is constantly on. I wouldn't recommend this model AMD Ryzen 5 5625U.
