I remember trying to run TESV on this laptop back in 2011. 2gb ram and 256mb vram lmao. I did run it, in 400p. The screen was as tiny as a gameboy advance. I had a blast. Now I run everything at 4k max settings and I'm still bored af. Sucks to grow old.

Hi, I'm still using this Acer laptop occasionally. It's been working fine for many years and just doesn't turn on for the last 2 days. The laptop power LED doesn't show any sign of power. I've been trying many remedies: 1. Remove the battery, press and hold the power button for a minute, put the battery back (or the second time, just the DC power supply). 2. Unseat the RAM module one by one and test the power button 3. Do the step #1 and #2 above, press the power button and continually tap the F2 button to activate the BIOS. 4. Checking the DC power cord with a multimeter and got a constant 19 volts. So it's good. The following things are not done yet: 5. Remove the CMOS battery: I was not able to find the CMOS round battery with just a few cover opening. I guess I have to open all the cover to see it. I've seen some videos and it's intimidating when it comes to remove the keyboard and almost many other things to see the CMOS battery. 6. Test the DC power jack: by the same reason mentioned above, I wasn't able to test (or replace the power jack if it's faulty). I'm hoping I'm wrong on this. Do we have to dissemble everything in other to test the power jack? I'm running out of possible solutions. I appreciate your help. Thanks in advance.

At this point, I would say opening up the case and taking a look at the motherboard is the next step. Then you can try the CMOS battery. As well, you can inspect the board for discoloration around solderpoints, maybe something shorted. You can use a multimeter to see if there is power coming into the board while the power adapter is plugged in. If anything, the experience will be helpful for future devices. I would say do this before looking for a replacement board. Or, bring it to a shop and detail to them what you have done so far.

@@HaisteComputerRepair Thanks for your advice. I'm certainly doing it right now before dissembling everything to get to the CMOS battery. I'll also be looking at the jack port, testing it and make sure it's OK. Here's what I did before the laptop became irresponsive: 1. Trying to upgrade the 160GB hard disk to 1T hard disk by cloning it. The process went well. 2. Replacing the 160GB hard disk with the 1T hard disk. 3. Since the laptop has a second bay for a second hard disk, I moved the 160GB hard drive to that bay, thinking I'll be using the Computer Management utilities to format it and use it for additional storage. 4. Booted the laptop. It was dead. My guess is the BIOS was not able to handle this new environment. And although the OS Windows 7 Home should be able to cope with the new situation, the original BIOS was used for its original Windows Vista OS. So if I could clear the CMOS battery holding old info, I might be able to help the laptop come back to life. That's is my thought for now. I appreciate your input and will definitely be following your advice.

@@ntran3536 It would be quite the set of circumstances for a laptop to completely stop working after installing the second drive. I installed Windows 10 as you can see in the video and it ran fine. The drivers worked well enough even without specifically being created for Win 10. I guess in your case it might have been bad luck. If you do have the multimeter, you can also test to see what voltage the CMOS battery is sitting at and if you need to replace it or not. But yes, I would take all drives out and just try booting to BIOS. See if the fans spin at all, etc. Let me know how it goes.

I don't have this laptop anymore, but I can say that it performed well enough considering the age of the hardware. Manage your expectations and consider what you want to use it for.

I just installed a SSD on my 7720 today ! Can't believe about the dual bay so I'm refurbishing the original HDD in a storage drive, that's pretty good 👍

Hi, i did update to windows 10 but after the automatic update of the nvidia graphics card (9300g m) it became impossible to start windows 10 normally again. I see you do not have the nvidia graphics card installed. Is that right? How did you manage it?

It's been a while since I worked on this. I don't know if it did have the NVIDIA GPU or not, but I didn't do anything special. Just a normal install and running Windows update. Double checking that drivers work. There likely aren't Win 10 drivers for that GPU or system. That is a good questions though, I will have to look into it.

I have an old acer 7720z ick70 from 2007 with 2gb ram. The original processor is an Intel T2310 and the motherboard reference is ICL50 LA-3551P. I've already replaced the hdd with an SSD, the processor I'd like to put a T7300. For the memory sticks, I'd like to put 2x2gb but it doesn't work, I get a blue screen on startup, either with windows 10 or 7. In the bios the 4gb are well recognized. These are old memory sticks from another PC with exactly the same references (so-dimm ddr2-5300s 667mhz). They work in another pc or one by one in the acer. Any ideas? Upgrade not possible? @@HaisteComputerRepair Thanks for your answer. Yes, the two 2gb memory sticks work separately in the two slots :/. So I'm stuck at 2gb... Was this Acer 7720Z model manufactured with different motherboards and some of them only accept 2gb memory :/? My motherboard reference: ICL50 LA-3551P rev 1.A. The motherboard reference is written right under the memory slots. I live in Belgium, Europe.

@@fertonsa It's possible that there are slight differences between versions of motherboards. With Acer and HP (others I am sure) there are so many variations on a single model that it becomes hard to reference without digging through the internet for anecdotal evidence that someone else is having the same problem. This is a laptop I serviced and haven't seen since, so I am not of much help. Good luck and let me know if you find a solution.

I don't believe this would take 8GB DDR2 RAM unfortunately. From what I can find, 4GB is the max, which is close to standard for DDR2 Intel motherboards with only 2 x DIMM slots for RAM.

@@Paasj Interesting, so you were able to get 1 x 4GB and 1 x 2GB? That's pretty cool. It's rare for me to come across 4GB sticks of DDR2. Good to hear yours is working well!

Are you wanting to do a fresh install of Windows 10? Let me know and I can write out some instructions for you. I definitely recommend an SSD if you don't already have one installed.

Try: 1) Reseating the RAM sticks. Try them one by one if that doesn't work. Further, if you have other RAM you can test out that will cancel out RAM being the issue. 2) Remove the battery and hold down the power button for 20 seconds. Try just plugging in the power adapter and turning on. If you are unsure about the power adapter working, see if you can borrow a universal power adapter (or call a local shop to see if they have a spare) 3) If you can, inspect the motherboard to see if there is any dark discoloration which would indicate a shorted connected or loose solder. 4) check local shops in your area and see what they have to say. Detail what you have done for troubleshooting to lessen billable hours. Let me know how any of this turns out.

I am not the owner, I installed this for a customer. I would think this was released around 2008, which speaks volumes for the hardware.

I can't seem to get a usb or dvd disc to install windows, even though i select the right drive in the boot menu

@@HaisteComputerRepair Both usb and dvd disc it can show the windows logo then goes black but just stays there, its weird. I did manage to install windows a few months ago using a bootable windows PE but then the windows once installed would crash trying to install a driver

@@ushilives3 I would stick to USB and maybe try setting up your USB again with the latest Win 10 .iso. Your RAM limitation will definitely have an affect on performance. If you are wanting to run Win 10 on 2GB RAM and a Core 2 Duo CPU, even with an SSD performance will not be very good. I would say still give it a try if you can, though. Or try Linux instead, especially if you just want to do general tasks.
