That's a lucky case, I got from my mate gaming more advanced laptop 2500 pounds worth and there same burned first MOSFET + burned all round cells inside motherboard and burned so far and deep, there's no way to return to life that motherboard. Thank You for video - top man 👍

i dont like random shutdown cases, it can be various things not just shorted mosfet besides shorted 5v power rail, faulty Super IO or faulty southbridge...etc.. sometimes it opens and shutsdown after 3 seconds and this faulty you can also check every mosfet with oscilloscope if there is leakage one of them or not.

I think that charging a fixed price for repairs is a good idea (you mentioned this yesterday). It wouldn't be fair to charge 4 hours for yesterday's repair and then today's customer pays 0.5 hours for the same fault.
@JonnyMac351
@JonnyMac351 Жыл бұрын
In the past these sorts of jobs are used to cover the price on jobs you lose money on due to excessive hours you can't charge for.This is obviously at the discretion of the repairer.

its not often that simple!!...it depends on many reason how to fee a repair job! in some cases u find the problem fast and the parts are cheap, so u can fix it for a good price for both sides! but if u are not able to find the issue in the first 30min and the parts are relative expensive, so u cant charge a fair price for all! there are many many Shops that never repair cheap 300$ Laptops from Intel 4th Generation! the reason is simple, you can buy it used for less than a repair would cost u. Sorin is one of not many Repair Shops, that try to repair most devices!

Perhaps not. However, consider that as ones skills get better, faster, more efficient, you charge 'more' for that service. Unlike technology, where prices tend to come down as manufacturing processes become more stable and efficient. So, technically, one could charge 'more' for a job that took less time - even though it now appears to be a simpler repair. Food for thought.

Yesterday's fault was a warranty return, which started with a shorted capacitor, yes? Is that capacitor still the issue of why these mosfets are blowing? Or do we just replace the mosfet? Thanks!

I have an Acer VX15 very almost identical to the "Nitro" but with the ac plug on the side. Sometimes I have it unplugged working only with the battery and even when still having a big percentage of power all of the sudden the PC shuts down by itself. And when I try to restart it by pressing the "On" button it doesn't turn on. So I have to plug the charger/adapter and then it turns on and boots back up. I assume it must have a very similar problem with the mosfet. My problem is not severe since I can keep using my PC but eventually I might need to check it. One thing this Acer VX15/Nitro has is that the keyboards have problems by not able to type certain letters. I already got a new keyboard and will install it soon.

I suppose maybe the first mosfet is a much higher rated voltage device and maybe the second is lower voltage breakdown so it can be smaller. The on resistance of these modern mosfet is incredible low.

If you are already familiar with common acer failures, please include this manufacturer in your list of laptops that you are happy to receive for repair. Of course, use surrogate part numbers for those Mosfets from a reputable (trustworthy for quality) manufacturer. Finally, don't forget to buy a British lottery ticket. All the best.

So what is causing those mosfets to burn out? Is the voltage of the charger being too low or fluctuating or is it gaming with high ambient temperature?

Hi. I have been repairing laptop for a while now. But my problem is, I can't avoid breaking some plastic clips during disassembly process, no matter how careful I am. Is it normal? Well I normally could attach them back, but I need to put extra hours to fully repair the laptop. Any tips?
@David-Zita

try to find service manuals that should help you how to disassemble the laptop carefully without breaking some plastic. good luck
@ratatajk7187
@ratatajk7187 Жыл бұрын
@@David-Zita well, some manual have limitation. For example, when opening cover for screen, there's no various way. It's the same method. Older laptops tend to have fragile plastic clip due to the age. It's just very tiny parts that being broken. That's why I want to know if it's normal for technician? Sometime that situation cannot be avoided?
@carlosgarciaoropeza5480
@carlosgarciaoropeza5480 Жыл бұрын
@Ratata JK: You must have the right tools for disassembly. I was skeptical to use plastic tools (screwdriver, spudger, plastic opener pick), the cheap ones to open cell phones (of course I prefer metal) but there are excellent ones (quality) for use on laptops and TVs. Of course we damage plastic hooks on the covers especially when one is a novice, that is, the first time you face each manufacturer. I don't know much about the plastic injection process (the chemical and mechanical engineers are responsible for manufacturing and molding) but the quality of some manufacturers leaves much to be desired. Another way of saying it, how is it possible that large screen TVs (50 inches or larger) DO NOT leave plastic ventilation slots on the back cover, mainly where the LED strips are installed. Look for polymers for electrical appliances. You will find that its main enemy is the internal heat generated by the components... of course the environmental conditions of the region where you are also influence. In my case, the summer temperature is above 40 degrees Celsius every day and leaving plastic exposed to the sun will deform it in less than one hour. Breakage of plastic cover due to hinges on laptops? It is another topic. Finally, superbonder 480 black, original loctite glue (an industry standard) can successfully solve that problem of broken plastic hooks. All the best.
