Excellent summary! Had both at same time for maybe four months end of last year. In different legs though 🤣 It wasn't my first time with PF pain but it was the most painful. Had to almowt crawl to attend our kids during the night if they woke up. Heel raises, and stretching with the help of a slant board were my lifesaver. Stretching isn't recommended for Achilles issues, but it didn't make my case worse.

I’ve suffered both these issues for issues , round and around . Calf raises tiggers ball of foot pain - so can’t do…

This is the best info I’ve found after about a dozen tries. My problem is the back of my heel, my tendon leading to it from my calf is great, no problems, it’s where ir connects to the back of my heel. I’m an avid walker, 10 years ago I hiked the Appalachian trail, no problems at all. I’m 53 now and last week I decided I should increase cardio by running a portion of my daily 5 mile walk. I bought new running shoes (which felt a little low under the heel, like I’m going uphill, compared to the feel of my Merrill trail runners). I probably only ran 3-4 hundred yards but the next day and the week following has been painful. Any advice beyond calf raises and stretches? I’m really afraid of being told I can’t run anymore. I was always a runner and then. Track coach, this pain is new and concerning.

It sounds like you have insertional Achilles tendinopathy, in which case it would be better to avoid doing calf stretches. Here are two of our articles that may be helpful: Achilles tendinopathy treatment overview (with links to more detailed articles about certain issues): www.treatmyachilles.com/post/achilles-tendonitis-treatment-what-works-what-doesn-t-work-and-what-makes-it-worse Insertional Achilles tendinopathy: www.treatmyachilles.com/post/top-tips-for-insertional-achilles-tendinopathy

thank you, that's very helpful. my osteopath said i had insertional tendinopathy and my physio said its PF and told me to do calf stretches and drops off a step. the pain is right at the back of the bottom of the heel - right in between the 2 areas on your diagram. its not generally worse in the morning as PF is meant to be. But i've had a bad back and if i lie on the sofa to rest my back, when i get up, i can't walk for a few minutes. It's also starts to get painful after walking for an hour or two. It started a few weeks after i started a job at the top of a hill - so walking uphill and down 3 times a week on a cambered track. I've thrown so much money at this and am still none the wiser and now i'm really worried that i might make it worse by doing the wrong thing!

This is not a straight forward case to answer. I can't tell what condition you may have without assessing you but it may even be connected to your back. Sometimes the simplest solutions are the best - have you tried changing your shoes? See if it helps if you wear a shoe that is supportive but has a bit of a heel on them (running shoes are usually best). Also, it may be useful to go back to your physio so they can assess your progress and adjust your exercises if needed.

You’re wonderful! Could insertional Achilles pain be worse in the morning too? I seem to have pain where the plantar and Achilles meet. I suspect running inconsistently is the culprit. Any advice?

Yes, it is often worse in the morning - I would likely treat it as if it is insertional but a bit difficult to say without assessing it - you can find more info on that here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o72FrdaCrrLeh3U.html If you want more specific rehab advice and help with getting back to your normal activities, this is something that our team of physios can help you with via video call. I got diagnosed with a Achilles insertion tendonitis, but feel more pain and inflammation under my heel. The ultrasound said there no plantar fasciitis though. May it be related to my insertion tendonitis ? Thx
@TreatMyAchilles
@TreatMyAchilles 11 ай бұрын
It can be referred pain for the insertion but it may also be irritation of the nerve that runs there or fat pad bruising (not sure where in the heel you feel it). If you wanted help figuring this out and with getting back to your normal activities, this is something that our team of physios can assess and help you with via video call. Manual tissue work into the fascia of the foot and the achilles is the HUGE link most are missing.....rest, stretching, exercise and scraping are important however to cure heal pain 100% (regardless of the name you want to call it), and not just reduce it...manual tissue release is a MUST do and it takes time, consistency, the right tool and ability to push thru the pain over and over again. It hurts and if it doesn't hurt then you are in the wrong spot and that section of fascia is not the cause of the pain. Best of luck to those researching how to heal bottom foot pain as it took me 3 years to figure it out. Sure I got to 90% relief without tissue release (poking the tissue, massage and thumbs are not enough pressure) BUT to get back to tennis, jogging, hiking, etc.....need a 100% cure and it does exist without surgery.

What do you mean by “manual tissue work?” Did you see a professional? I’ve been dealing with Achilles tendinitis and plantar fasciitis for 14 months now unable to find relief.
@bitcoinbuyscar7875

@@Dmoneyokeefe I did see a professional and have researched this issue immensely. Fascia is all over the entire body like a spider man suit i.e. it's all connected and understanding helped me understand that while the pain is in the heal it's not necessarily the problem area although likely contributing as it is a multiple area issue in my opinion. In my case, not all, the fascia causing the issue was more in the ankle than foot, in fact different degrees of it are through out the foot, ankle and entire lower leg. But it can be anywhere, hips, upper legs, etc. If the fascia is injured in any area of the body it can impact any other area. All that said, you have to find bad fascia and "wake it up", restore health and proper blood flow. If you check out ASTR I think it's a good start to find relief BUT still you know your own body better than your healer and need to learn his technique and be able to do it to yourself....and it takes time and repeat treatments and pain

The back of the heel can be swollen if you have insertional Achilles tendinopathy. Plantar fasciitis can sometimes cause a bit of puffiness under the inner part of the heel.
