A mod I did to my Gibsonette, (similar to a tweed Champ/Princeton). Is put a switch to change the 1st .02 cap to a .002 like Marshall did in thaw or later circuits. Makes so you can crank it for crunch instead of flub. Works better than messing with the Cathode, which I’ve done.

I would think that if a company is an amp in the price range that this one is in, they would have taken the time to make sure everything worked properly and that the quality of parts they use and the way the assembly is done. I learned a lot from watching you, Lyle, and Jason. Keep up the good work and Happy Holl8days to you and yours.

What can you say, if even a RCA connector gives you middle finger, except that classic "O tempora, o mores". 😂 Merry Xmas! P. S. V1 cathode resistor bypass cap is usually very useful because it naturally filters off the hum caused by AC heater voltage to cathode.

I did a rebuild, refurbishment on a very early Fender Dual Professional Model 47, probably from 1949. It actually jumps up from 6V6Gs to 6L6Gs and uses TWO output transformers from the smaller model 26. The two output transformers are wired in parallel on the primary side and each one feed ONE of two speaker. Talk about building amps on a budget, but Leo Fender was great at that.

@@BradsGuitarGarage Carter Guitars has a nice one in stock. This one the tweed has darkened a lot with years of dirt, stains & oxidizing and the tweed is a bit fuzzed out on the corners from abrasion. The output transformers are the old typical style that mount right on the Jensen speaker frames. It's a basically a 5B4 V front cab with the chrome trim strip down the middle. The Jensens have the old cylindrical pill box magnets rather than the newer P10R square frames around the magnets. The Jensens are model PM10B, or PM10C. They seem to have smaller magnets than the PM10C. The Model 47 became the 5A4 Super in 1948 or 49. The 5B4 went from the 6SJ7s and 6N7 PI to the 6SC7 being used all the way through the preamp.

I'm stoppin right there at that fuse holder. I got an amp with one of them, you have to remove the chassis to access it. I'll take a picture.

G'day Brad, That's a great sounding amp, and it doesn't sound like any Fender amp I've tried. I do try to avoid Fender amps, but this one still sounds great. Just another note for you though. You might want to check the product sheet for the silicone you're using - as I remember it, some silicone sealants contain salt and can cause corrosion. I could be totally wrong, but I know that silicone is not as good as it's made out to be. Anyhow, good luck with your workload. Have a safe & merry X-mas. Andrew

I've worked on 5 or 6 tweed champs and never have seen one without a bypass cap on the v1 cathode. I"ve read that it was a mistake on the Fender schematic that was never fixed. I removed the cap on a customers amp by request and it sounded bland compared to a bypassed 1.5k YMMV

Hey Brad! I have a Marshall DSL 50 I would love to have a conversation with you about. When I power it up, it hums. On standby, and off standby. Volume doesn't effect it. I've read several forums and most of them agree that they ALL hum. Is this something you experienced while working on them?
